Subject: Why do the covies have 5 diffrent types of cruisers?

I am alpha, i am omega.

I am the last of the primes.

They have from smallest to biggest.

-Light cruiser
-Cruiser
-Ccs class battlecruiser
-Reverence class cruiser
-Supercruiser

Why on earth do they need 5 diffrent types of these, surly 2 or 3 at max would be enough...

The unsc only have 2 types, and even then marathons are just heavily moded halcyons.

We are all going to get banned aren't we?

There was an original model and they expanded off that.

Because each ship has different advantages and different costs. I'de rather have 5 Frigates than 1 Halcyon Cruiser.

Why? They all can just fire their MACs.

Cruiser is a term for the size of ship, they all have different roles.

  • 07.26.2011 3:49 PM PDT

Does it Matter? Who says they can't have variety? If it didn't matter, they would have mass produced Supercruisers and Supercarriers.

But then you factor in corvettes, frigates and destroyer and it seems stupid to have so many diffrent types of ships.

DIE MORE LIVE LESS

dumbest question ever, they need some for recon, some for troop deplyment, some for planet glasing, and some for commanding, sooo, why you so stupid? And the unsc has hundreds of varriations but most have beed demolished or out of service

  • 07.26.2011 3:58 PM PDT

Same reason the federation in Star Trek, or the Empire in Star Wars, has so many cruiser variants.

They all have different strengths and roles.

The covenant dig up forerunner tech and try understanding it while integrating it into their own. This would translate to different cruisers as they laid down new hulls to take advantage of newly discovered technologies. They could even have had wildly experimental ships that later stories could bring to light.

Cruiser is a loose classification of a naval vessel, and it does not fill in a particular role. Even if the five vessels are classified as cruisers by the UNSC, they could very well have unique roles. At least, the Battlecruiser is certainly different from all the others.

That's the way a Navy functions. In our military, we have dozens of different watercraft for different functions, I'm surprised to see the Covenant only have 5 kinds of cruisers, I thought there were more, like the flagship, corvette, or assault carrier.

Well why not?

Why does Ferrari have 3 (or so?) different models when they all go rediculously fast and are all incredibly expensive and exclusive?

Because each model fill its own niche purpose.
Same goes for Covie cruisers.

  • 08.01.2011 12:17 AM PDT

Honestly, I'm just here for the cake.

Think about how many species they have within them, surely they would have had different sizes of ships themselves and it's all melded together

Inside another dead body. It's the last place they'll look
A corpse within a corpse.
CORPSEPTION.
Win.

Because the Covenant truly subscribe to the theory of Bigger Is Better.
And after all, why scrap the old ships that are still serviceable? Even if they weren't, they could be just palmed off onto the Kig-Yar and Jiralhanae.

Why do modern Navies have different types of ship??

Why do modern Air Forces have different types of Aircraft??

Why do modern Armies have different types of vehicles??

Catch my drift?

EDIT: Also, isn't it a 'Super-Carrier' not a Supercruiser???

[Edited on 08.01.2011 4:29 AM PDT]

Remember, the Covenant aren't very creative when it comes to ship design.
All cruisers look the same, all carriers look the same.

Let me ask you this:

Has the Covenant ever been known not to be overpowered?

OOOHMYGODDDD WINNING.

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

Why doesn't the US Navy just use one kind of ship?

They do have diffrent ships, but they dont have 5 diffrent typs of aircraft carriers or cruisers or destroyers...
They don't have 5 diffrent types of f-22s...

Also Supercruiser is diffrent from a super carrier...

Supercruiser = 4km long
Supercarrier = 28km long.

Ferrari, let me ask you this. Why do we have so many types of guns in real life? Because they all fill different roles in combat.
