Subject: If Mercy had lived...

Imagine if the Flood spore that got to Mercy didn't make it and Mercy was able to board his Phantom to the safety of the Dreadnought, what events would have changed? Would he still have died due to the Truth? Would certain tactical events have changed due to Mercy's leadership? Tell me what you think.

There'd be another mission where you punch someone out of a floating chair.

THEN, the brutes take over.

Delta halo?
If that's what you mean... I think it's the best campaign mission ever.

We kill that which we do not understand...and then promptly tea-bag it.

Not to be a buzz-kill or anything, but I doubt much would've changed, given Mercy is basically a puppet of Truth. He probably would've just been secretly killed, or died in the same "citadel" that Truth dies in. That's my opinion, but still an interesting question if he had lived in Halo 3 (betrayed Truth at the last instant, like how that one servant guy stabbed Saruman in LoTR).

I have to agree that not much would have changed. I believe Mercy would have ended up dead no matter what. When the infection form attacked Mercy, Truth instructed the Brutes to leave him alone even though he could have been saved. The Prophet of Truth's method of removing his fellow hierarchs was carried out in a way that left the blood on his enemies' hands. This betrayal was inevitable, and would have happened at some point during the fighting, as Mercy would have succumbed to some "unfortunate accident" at the hands of either the Flood, the Elites, or the UNSC.

Humans might have gone extinct. Truth had plans to get rid of the elites, but he couldn't take violent actions until Mercy was dead. That would delay the Great Sichim which would delay for sepratist reinforcements on Earth for the Flood out break which would surely kill the last of Earth.
Didn't the Great Schism already go underway while Mercy was still alive? If it were Regret it would be a whole different story, he loved the Elites.
