I found out on a news site (BBC news, in fact) that halo 2 needs Windows Vista, and any other operating system (except mac because i didn't find anything about that) just won't cut the mustard. Man, Bill Gates knows how to scam PC gamers out of their money, doesn't he? But there is a point to it i think. But what do you think?

The link is here (no rude stuff here!) http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4698072.stm
Sorry but I thought i should point this out

thanks man but we already knew about this. it's ok though you're a new guy, welcome to the forums. Yeah it really sucks you need vista, cuz then it's like paying $50-100 for vista and then $50 for the game.

Well its new to me. and if you have a lousy graphics card, processor and anything else that matters, you could face a big bill on your credit card (IF you got a credit card). Im better off buying an xbox off my friend when he gets an xbox360 and THEN play it (I have NEVER, EVER played halo 2).

$100 for Windows Vista? You're thinking way too low Matt. Remember, Vista has been in development for over six years. It has been coded from scratch.

Also consider in the last 10 years, no new MS operating system ever sold for less than 100 bucks for the initial offering.

I'm guessing.....

$199 for the basic, "Home edition" version
$299 for the Professional version, and six months later....

$99 for Basic,
$199 for Pro.

*Welcome to capitalism and open-market business!*

Companies work hard to get you to buy their products, and the fact that Halo 2 will require Vista is a testment to this. Microsoft wants people to upgrade to Vista - most are happy with XP, so how else would it sell? Why, make all new software run only on Vista!

Well my opinion is this Windows Vista is the greatest thing to happen to PC's since electricity I mean i am running the BETA 2 on my system right now and without any software support for any of my Hardware my PC runs better now than it ever has. So if the Vista Ultimate reaches the projected 400.00 release price smile and be happy to buy it, except for those of you that dont have minimum system requirements which are quite a few of you i would suppose but if your system cant support VISTA what the hell are you doing in a gamers forum. Anyway windows XP isnt worth the powder and lead it would take to blow it straight to hell it was a marketing thing to get your money is the only reason it was even made to get people off of microsofts ass to replace ME and with something that actually worked. And given the lack of user friendliness of 2000, XP was the obvious. However alot of you may or may not know that VISTA is not designed around hardware setups but rather its being designed around user needs which is freaking genius. One last thing i might like to mention that in the past OPEN GL has been the gamers choice for programming 3D but with the new Direct X 10 or Direct X 9.0L whichever they end up calling it you will see that DIRECT3D has stepped up to the plate and will probably dethrone Open GL.; Just a lamers passing thoughts.

Do you have any idea how many people here have a pc that fits Halo's requirements but wont make it for a Vista machine?

I have an X800 PCIx card, but that doesnt fit the bill either. It wont do DX10, so dispite it not being an old or inexpensive card, I certainly wont see halo2 (if I got it and Vista) in any decent view.

i can run vista on a 9600 XT... just remember when it says its a dx9 card doesnt mean dx9 only. ive run dx9 games on dx8.1 cards.

your x800 is well above the min spec for vista.

Eh, Bungie did say on their front page that you need Vista... But whatever, flaming is a waste of time (and not needed)

(To below poster: I wasn't bumping it, I was commenting. The last post wasn't that old. :)
