Sparkcast
Link

Characters:

Mal
Vaz (at least that's what I think their names are)

They are two ODSTs picked as part of a team to go on a black op mission.

Sarah Osman
Has very bad memories with Halsey. Failed Spartan.

Margaret Parangosky

Head of ONI
Old
Scary
Soft spot for Sarah. Sees her as a "granddaughter". Sends candy.

Black Box (BB)

AI
Anti Cortana
Does not use a human avatar
Egotistical

Evan Phillips
He's the one who talks with the Sangheili.
Researcher
Devious
Fascinated by elites and elites are fascinated by him.
Big on Sanghelios.
Speaks fluent sangheilian. Talks like a "idiot child".

Catherine Halsey
Book deals with her guilt.

Mendez
Doesn't like Halsey however he doesn't like himself. He feels guilty about the Spartans.

Lucy
POV character. Frustrated.

Female elites "rule inside the house".

Elites have trouble maintaining a society without the rest of the covenant. Seriously what ex warrior wants to be a farmer?

Engies are very valuable. They repair the technology the elites use and such.

ODSTs at one point hijack a vessel to liberate (steal) a engie.
Regret it once they wonder what Margaret will do to it. D:

Characters learn about the origin of the Spartans.

At one point Blue Team meets a engie.

ONI wants to keep the elites fractured and disorientated.

Updating as I listen. Feel free to add your own info. I probably missed some stuff.

Hey look, somebody posted an actually useful thread that contributes information we didn't know already. What're the odds of that?

I predict a spike in comparison threads due to this.

"It will not be we who reach Alpha Centauri, and the other nearby stars, it will be a species very like us, but with more of our strengths and fewer of our weaknesses, more confident, far-seeing, capable, and prudent. For all our failings, despite our limitations and fallibilities, we humans are capable of greatness."-Carl Sagan

Parangosky is a cold hearted -blam!-.

And an Anti-Cortana AI? That's a good one, I didn't know AIs could be prone to jealousy.

Cortana would delete that -blam!- line by line if she wanted to.

He's not jealous. He represents every Cortana isn't.

Hey, now!

This is officially either the greatest or worst thing to ever happen to Star Wars. I'm going with the former.

Thanks! Listening now.

What a waste....

Awesome.

What happened to Scared More Than All in ODST?

You don't even know about the AI's capabilities yet and you're already saying that Cortana would win. Cortana is bogged down with a ton of information, and even a heavily damaged Covenant AI managed to outwit her.

Parangosky is just doing what she needs to do to help mankind.

Karren Traviss never ceases to get me thinking. Looking forward to it.

I just finished listening, and I have to say my anticipation for the book has increased significantly. It sounds amazing. The characters, and what Karen aims to explore. Very interested in the novel delving into Sangheili culture, and the roles of the females. Was great, listening to them talk about Evan's relationship with the Sangheili, as well as the behaviour of Black Box and all the emotions of the aftermath. Hell, I was grinning all the way through the discussion. I can't wait, sounds very fascinating.

Did I hear the implication that ONI wishes to keep the Sangheili fractured and disorientated?

Yes, you did.

I wonder how the Arbiter will take that....Because he's almost definitely going to appear at least in cameo sometime in the story.

Female elites "rule inside the house".

When I read this I immediately got an image of a Sangheili male washing the dishes while his wife is yelling at him weilding a rolling pin. XD

ODSTs at one point hijack a vessel to liberate (steal) a engie.
Regret it once they wonder what Margaret will do to it. D:

Wait...I thought ONI already has a engie? What did Margaret do to Virgil!?

Maybe they wanted a "pure" engie? Not one with the superintendent in it? I know just as much as you know. Also they could just want another one. I know I'd have engies all over the place if I was ONI.

My Grandfather was a Desert Ranger, my Father was a Veteran Ranger in the NCR. My father was killed by Caesar's Legion and they took my Brother. It's now my responsibility to uphold the mantle of the Rangers and avenge my Father and find my Brother.

It's the sequel to GoO right? Will the other Spartans be in it?

We should know better, because we are better.

This sounds really cool. I think that ONI are going to be a very prominent faction in this new trilogy, for which I am glad.

Virgil may have suffered a terrible "accident", if you know what I mean.

It's not really a sequel to GoO, but the book will touch upon those characters, as well as many others.

Yes, you did.

I wonder how the Arbiter will take that....Because he's almost definitely going to appear at least in cameo sometime in the story.

I would think that they would want to promote the most friendly faction over the others, not keep them warring.

More than just Virgil. At the end of First Strike, Sergeant Johnson says that the captured Engineers (Yes, it was plural I believe) were locked safely away in the Gettysburg.

Totally forgot about those. Perhaps this engie is special?

With the tons of copies made in First Strike Cortana made of herself, one was bound to go haywire.

I would like to think as so as well...but why do I get the feeling this is going to make us hate ONI even more? (at least Sangheili fanatics like me...)

Oh, I forgot about those guys *been too long since she read the book*. And yet in ODST it sounded like Virgil was the first one they got their hands on. A case of 'left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing' perhaps?

Actually I think they wanted it because since it came with the fleet attacking earth and since it fused with the superintendent it would tell them why the covenant are on earth.
