"This is the only place on Earth the Covenant decided to land" -Lord Hood (Halo 2).

Now, I'm not a reader of the novels, but I understand that in one of them, the SPARTAN-IIS fight the Covenant in various areas around the globe when Regret's fleet is attacking.

Is Lord Hood misinformed or something? What's goin' on? I don't think he's a very good Fleet Admiral if he doesn't know how to do his job properly. XD

Did he say that in Halo 3 or Halo 2? If 2 then he was correct at the moment. If 3 then we can afford a simple retcon of that line.

It was Miranda Keyes who said that I believe. And that is after Home Fleet was destroyed.

It was said in Halo 2. And at the time, prior to the main fleet arriving, that was the only place they landed. Because they only got one ship through the orbital defenses. (Other than the ship the Chief blew up.)

In ODST, they explain that maybe 6-12 hours after the slipspace event, more ships show up and break through the orbital defenses to land and attack everywhere.

In terms of Halo 3 that is.

This guy knows his stuff.

So there were three fleets. Regret's fleet that arrived only in Africa, the main fleet that arrived during ODST that in a few places around the world, then Truth's fleet, with again, only landing in Africa.

Though, it's said that half of Earth's population was wiped out. That's a little too far-fetched, seeing as how the main fleet only landed in three places, not counting Kenya (I think so, anyway).

Didn't they attack more than 3 places? Chicago, Africa and Cuba along with other places? Wasn't it said that Australia was whipped clean off the face of the Earth?

They also landed in the Yucatan Peninsula and Antarctica. After the main fleet arrived, it was assumed they landed in all the major population areas to start cleansing the "infestation." I highly doubt they only landed in only 3 places if they wiped out that much of the Earth's population.

They could have conducted a partial glassing/orbital bombardement on the non relic laden areas.

Why would the Covenant want to go there?

  • 07.28.2011 1:56 AM PDT

Yes, I believe it was the remains of blue team. Fred, Will and Linda. There maybe another but I haven't checked up on the information, they stole a Covenant ship and went to Onyx. Also the Covenant attacked Cleveland

The fact that you say Australia was wiped clean off the map makes me extremely disappointed.

Probably just a glitch in the storyline again. Bungie does this louds with the Halo novels for example in Fall of Reach the Pillar of Autumn is already in space when the Covenant attack and it never lands whereas in Halo: Reach the Pillar is landed needs Cortana, Master Chief is already in supersleep and his Spartans have already died in combat. Just one of the things they'll never really fix...

I think that what Hood meant is that more Covenant are attacking new mombassa (probably for the portal amplifier that would allow the dreadnout to get to the ark).

The Blue Team fought the Covenant in three places. Three people aren't enough to observe the full scale of the attack. And at that point, the human fleet was still fighting in orbit, so the full might of the invasion came later.

If I recall the line in GoO correctly, Blue Team mentioned that the Covenant were looking for something under Mount Erebus, probably a Forerunner artifact of some sort.

  • 07.28.2011 4:10 AM PDT

They landed in New Mombasa Kenya, Cleavland Ohio, and Somewhere in Austrailia.

Australia got wrecked.

The covenant then started probing the arctics and south america was getting hit also.

Miranda: "Terrestrial casualties from the subsequent bombardment were.... extreme."

Seems the Covenant fleet just went with the old "nuke it from orbit, it's the only way to be sure" plan.
