Subject: Mark IV / Mark V inconsistencies?

Hey guys, just wanted to ask a couple of questions...

1. Why do the Spartans in Halo Wars have Mark IV armor with shields, but then in FoR, all of the Spartans have to wait until Mark V to have shields? I'm thinking it's just an overlooked mistake, but I'd be grateful for a canonical explanation.

2. Why does John wear the Mark IV on the reprint cover of The Flood? And why does one of the Spartans on the First Strike cover wear Mark IV? We know perfectly well that all of the Spartans wear Mark V by this point. Probably just another overlooked mistake imo.

Cheers, let me know what you think.

PEANUT-BUTTER SLAP!

1. Just for gameplay.
2. Dunno. I haven't seen it, but it can probably be written off as artistic license.

We're never what we invent or intend.

If anything, I'd say the armor on the reprint of the flood [with the new-style Halo logo and the black arc at the top] looks like Mark VI, not IV.
Flood reprint

First Strike I have to agree with you. The shoulder pieces are identical to Mark IV. The only other thing I can think of is that they sorta resemble John's new armor from the Halo 4 trailer, maybe they're retconning his armor appearance?
First Strike reprint

Edit: I just noticed... what the hell is the Chief doing with SMGs in a novelization of Combat Evolved? They hadn't been introduced yet. Curses, more inconsistencies.

Finally, someone else who cares about canon as much as I do :D Yea I noticed the SMGs too but hey what can you do? And maybe yea it might be John's new armor, do you reckon it's Mk.VII?

I understand nothing because my life is a conspiracy.

Because Halo Wars is stupid and half non-canon.

-Opinion
-It's canon

Go ahead and list the so called canon errors in that game.

Spartan II-151
Look, just talk to me. I'm sure we'll get along.

No such thing as Mk VII, at least not obtainable by the Chief!

Doubtful... Frankie said that there was gonna be a reason/story behind the change in his armor, but I seriously they have random Mjolnir Mark VII distributors floating around in the outskirts of the Milky Way.

Yeah I suppose. But they must have some sort of prototype armor sitting around on the Dawn or else how would his armor change? Unless the teaser really is just a non-canonical round up of 'some things' that happen in Halo 4. All this talk just really puts into my head how much I actually want this game :D

If there was prototype upgrades for MJOLNIR, why weren't they equipped before the mission to the Ark?

Anyway, as I remember, Master Chief's Mark IV and V was essentially identical on the outside.

The only reprint cover I've seen is The Fall of Reach, and that cover makes PARTIAL sense.

In Halo Lengends, Spartans wear Mark four. In Halo Wars, they wear Mark four. The cover looks more like Mark six than five because the Mark four and Mark 6 armor are almost identical.

As for the Halo Wars Spartans having shields, it's easy to ignore if you realize the shields are only part of the gameplay experience. In the cutscenes, you never see the shields of a Halo Wars Spartan flicker. So imo, the shields can be ignored as just part of the gameplay.

...but that leaves Jorge's Mark four helmet to be questioned...

Looks nothing like the Halo Wars Mark four.

...but maybe Jorge's is a Mark four [B] varient?

EDIT: Wait, I just remembered. The Halo Legends helmet looked more like Mark 6, so maybe it was a prototype helmet like the one in Reach.

So yeah.

...or Legends is uncanon, which is also believeable.

Weapon of Oppression

The shields were only part of gameplay and thus were not canon.
The covers for the updated books were ALL for artistic lisence, just to apeal to casual halo fans.
So NONE of that was canon.

And as for Jorge, while his helmet was mark iv, it was a protoype for integrating sheild technology, just like the rest of his suit.
Just read the descrition in halo reach.
You guys disregard halopedia, but many of these answers could simply be answered by visiting one of the sites.

So all in all, none of these are mistakes, the smgs were never in halo the flood, it was simply an artistic lisense, same out Daisy in halo legends wore the cqb armor, before it was even manufactured, its just to appeal to casual halo fans, so they would be able to recognise such allusions.
