"Time was your ally human. But now it has abandoned you. The Forerunners....have returned. And this tomb... is now yours". - The Didact

This summary releases some intresting info:

A long time ago, I was a living, breathing human being.I went mad. I served my enemies. They became my only friends.

Since then, I've traveled back and forth across this galaxy, and out to the spaces between galaxies--a greater reach than any human before me.

You have asked me to tell you about that time. Since you are the last true Reclaimer, I must obey. Are you recording? Good.Because my memory is failing rapidly. I doubt I'll be able to finish the story.

Onxz, on my birth-world, a world I knew as Erde-Tyrene, and which now is called Earth, my name was Chakas...

In the wake of apparent self-destruction of the Forerunner empire, two humans--Chakas and Riser--are like flotsam washed up on very strange shores indeed.

Captured by the Master Builder, misplaced during a furious battle in space, they now find themselves on an inverted world where horizons rise into the sky, and where humans of all kinds are trapped in a perilous cycle of horror and neglect.
For they have become both research animals and strategic pawns in a cosmic game whose madneww knows no end--a game of ancient bengeance between the powers who seeded the galaxy with life,
and the Forerunners who expect to inherit their sacred mantle
of duty to all living beings.
In the company of a young girl and an old man, Chakas begins an epic journey across a lost and damaged Halo in search of a way home, an explanation for the warriors spirits rising up within, and for the Librarian's tampering with human destiny.

This journey will take them into the Palace of Pain, the domain of a powerful and monstrous intelligence who claims to be the Last Precursor, and who now has control of both this Halo and the fate of Forerunners and Humans alike.

Called the Captive by Forerunners, and the Primordial by ancient human warriors, this intelligence has takes charge of, and retasked, the Master Builder's cruel researches into the Flood--which it may have itself unleashed on the galaxy more than ten thousand years before.

Anyone else thinks this is directed to Master Chief?

Can't wait for this

We are all going to get banned aren't we?

so this along with everything else confirms that the UNSC and such will NOT be in halo 4.

And cobra is going to go INSANE when he finds all this out, im getting jittery right now.

So we meet chakas, which now brings the questions of " halo did he live if he activated installation 4?"

And where the hell is bornsteller? since he was narrating the first book i assume he would still be alive.

Didn't Greg said in an interview on waypoint that Didact and Librarian make an appearance in his next book?

Yea,i hope we meet him in Halo 4,this summary points to a personal conversation between the two of them

your right he did, this confirms that they will talk.

No idea, my current idea is that he transcended.

Remember when Didact said he would go into the great journey (terminals),i think that's the reason why Didact/Born and Chakas are currently alive

Good point Luigi! Just curious, but how does this confirm no UNSC in Halo 4?

i wish people would fully read the line because right before that is says "the price we paid with this [false transcendence]" or something like that.

And didn't greg say that chief and the other spartans have similar genes to chakas/riser? it was during comic con

Yes he did, most likely to Chakas.

Also the definition of Primordial:

1.Being of happening first in sequence of time; originamµ
2.Primary or fundemental
3.Biology Belonging to or characteristic of the earliest stage of development of an organism or part

  • 07.28.2011 5:56 AM PDT

In my opinion, if it is true that the chief meets Chakas then it essentially confirms that the Primordial will be the main villain in the next trilogy. I mean, why else build him up to be an extremely competent and evil bastard? Unless 343 pulls another evil out of their ass (with their work so far in the universe this is extremely unlikely) this is our ancient evil.

Also it's alright you've made this thread hotshot. Mine wasn't getting much attention anyway.

Im txgrim4 (Grim, Grimmy, Grimsta), i have been playing xboxlive for 9 years, evr since day 1 of Halo:CE til now. I love H2, that and Halo 1 are my favs. Im a Halologist when it comes to the Bungie/Halo Universe. Ive also played Marathon Series, ONI, and Myth Series. I live in Texas, Play Football, and cant wait for Halo 4!

This seems like a very good book, And sounds like MC will be invloved. To be offtopic real quick, what I find funny is that in Halo 2 on the multiplayer map "Backwash", a flood type map with 2401 P.T flying around on it, Is that if you read the description of the map, it says stuff and at the end says, beneath this structure lies a POWERFUL (key word) INTELLIGENCE (key word). I know it dosent mean anything in this situation, just funny how that is how they describe the last precursor in here and the unknown thing in Halo 2

We should know better, because we are better.

Sounds interesting. The one thing I want to ask; is Palace of Pain the best Bear could come up with? Doesn't sound like Halo.

Yeah that name is a bit... weird. I mean on one hand you have the awesome villain named Primordial and on the other you have THE PALACE OF PAIN! Sounds like something from a 80's cartoon show.

Sounds interesting; could this be an allusion to the Master Chief meeting Chakas in Halo 4?

Anyway, looking forward to the Prisoner's appearance.

And how does this confirm no Covenant and UNSC in H4...?

You know, I actually like that name. I know, it doesn't have that cryptic, antediluvian feel that Halo tends to give it's characters and locales, but, I don't know. It just sounds cool to me, if cheesy.

I honestly thought the description was about the Gravemind, one of the main antagonists of halo 2. It seemed retty obvious and I doubt it has anything to do with the last precursor.

While I would not be normally bothered by this, Palace of Pain sounds odd because of the word choice. If it was something like Fortress of Agony or Temple of Damnation I might have been okay with it.

avid forger, love vehicle gameplay

perhaps it is chackas/risr's term for the place? Riser calls the equivalent of beef jerky "little meats"...
Plus on the cover art, it looks like (presumably) riser and chackas are holding some type of gun, ready to fight. The desciption too leads me to think that forerunners were working with the captive, and were tesing some type of cure for the flood in humans. What if that's why flood were kept in the halo rings?

~ Life is Killing Me. ~

~ I hate, therefore I am. ~

In Halo 4, we all know that Cortana is still with him.

What if Chakas isn't a Transcended human, but had his intellect mapped as an AI before he died? He would know that his body "died", but yet his intellect lives on.

Surely the Forerunners (or even the Precursors) would be able to make an AI with far more longevity than Human constructed AI (Halsey's journal states the advances that Humanity has made in AI technology, but theey are still a long way away from the AI that the Forerunners were capable of. Look at Guilty Spark.).

Which then piques my curiosity.

What if Cortana and Chakas (as an AI) trade knowledge? How freakishly smart would Cortana be? She is already a mapped version of Dr. Halsey's mind, how far can genius level intelligence go?

1. it was never said or implied who was on the cover

2. did you skip over the part where it was said halo was used to research the flood?

They are ready to fight because there are no doubt things on that ring ready to kill them. It says they are research animals for the Primordial and Mendicant Bias. This of course is assuming they are the ones on the cover.

In order to combat the flood you need to research the flood. The rings were used as research stations at this time. When Mendicant Bias went rogue he had the flood stationed on his ring with him. The Primordial seems to have it's own intent with researching the flood.

Seens as the first book was narrated by Bornstellar and this one looks to be narrated by Chakas could it be that the third book is narrated by riser. Also doesnt the language used by Chakas seem to be a bit advanced for him as we see him in Cryptum. This leads me to believe that maybe he was made smarter or something along those lines.

  • 07.28.2011 12:06 PM PDT

I wake up to find myself
After all these years
And where all the time has gone
Still seems so unclear

You know what would be most interesting here... Is if they did make Chakas into an ancilla. But not just any ancilla... Maybe they made him into Offensive Bias. What a perfect instrument of Mendicant's destruction. (Perhaps Chakas' dies and Didact feels bad, so he takes an neutral imprint and makes him "immortal" for failing him?)

Probably wrong, but interesting.

  • 07.28.2011 12:07 PM PDT

Hmm... Delta Halo perhaps? And Palace of Pain=Library? I think that whole bit really further reinforces the connections between the Prisoner and the Gravemind (man, they must really love giving an unending parade of title to this guy XD haha). I can't wait for this book :D

I think that this whole trilogy might be addressed to Master Chief, because Bornstellar seems to be talking to somebody in Cryptum...I wonder if we'll get a new character narrating in the third book or if it will Bornstellar again, or be narrated by multiple characters?

I wish to know as well, this summary does not have any obvious connections to Halo 4 or its trilogy, especially since they aren't out yet. Frankly Grey, it seems to me that you're beginning to grasp at straws to support your view point, I don't necessarily think you're wrong, but I think you're holding onto that belief a little too tightly and you're starting to interpret any new information through that lens. I think it's still far too early to make any concrete claims on the matter.
