I see what you mean. Because Flood were in the rings, and that red monitor must have been mistaking for going somewhere. So he has been captured for way long. Which is why the grave mind knows so much. He was captured a century (maybe more, I don't remember exactly) before Halo 2. This had to have been near the creation of the Halo's or soon after their activation.
The rings are WAY older than you think. A century is only 100 years, so it would have been like 2400. But the rings are from WAY back before.
The rings were created maybe a few years before year one after the extermination of the forerunners. Watch Halo Legends and you'll know. (I know, I'm a nerd)
I've seen and read every piece of Halo media that's been made, with the exception of a few comics. I know how ancient the rings are. Tangent however wasn't captured until about a century before Halo 2. Sorry for the confusion. The 'this' I was referring to was the motion comic itself.
Edit: Going back over the logs from Halopedian, looks like I confused Tangent's #ID (2401) with the year. Not sure how long Gravemind's had him but it still places the motion comic well before he was captured.
Gravemind has had him for a long time. Gravemind has been there since before the rings were fired and with the flood having the gravemind on the ring, Penitent Tangent was captured in no time at all. I would assume.
