The Halo movie is official now. I'm sure most people have known that for a while, but there's some new information: a $100,000,000 budget and the crew is steadily building. The animator has helped in some pretty well animated movies. What do you think?

I dont know what to think about this.... actually ya know what? I think Microsoft is just milking the franchise, I hope this is good cause if its not the fans will probably end up burning a Microsoft building to the ground.

As long as it's done correctly, I'd love it.

Unfortunately, Hollywood doesn't exactly have a great track record for game-to-movie conversions. The writers and directors they hire for these projects are, at best, people who only give a quick glance at the source material rather than study it and embrace it, and instead opt to "reinterpet" or "reimagine" it to put their own spin on it.

My recurring nightmare now is that at some point in the movie, Chief will pull off his helmet and we see someone who looks like he belongs in the cast of Twilight. Also, he's somehow romantically involved with Cortana and is looking for a way to make her become real.

I think it would be safer for the franchise, and probably better for the fans, if they went with a live-action televison series in the same style as the commercials and shorts for ODST and Reach; expand on the Halo universe and the Covenant War with new characters, without butchering Master Chief and his story.

Why does it have to be animated!?!??

Just like the number of licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop, the world may never know...except Bungie.

I would prefer they do something more like a web series. Similar to what Warner Bros. and Machinima did for Mortal Kombat: Legacy.

None of this is real; the original Halo movie had a budget of 100,000,000 dollars and died. Anyone can update IMDB with whatever they want.

PEANUT-BUTTER SLAP!

IMDB has had a page for a Halo movie since at least 2006. The cast/crew/trivia/budget changes every now and then, and none of what appears there has ever been substantiated.

The last thing I remember hearing was on comingsoon.net last summer, with Microsoft saying that plans for the movie were still on the table but they were just waiting for the right time.

I have little doubt that they really want to do a movie to keep milking the cash cow, so I'm pretty sure it will come out eventually. I just hope that "waiting for the right time" translates to "waiting for a writer and director who are actually fans of the franchise."

M. Night Shyamalan, like Uwe Boll, must be stopped for the good of the movie-going public.

If there was a movie made about Halo, I hope they look for something else to tell a story about. If it is directly based on any of the games, I feel it will be a failure.

Personally, I'd expand more on the earlier parts of 'The Fall of Reach' where John is taken from his family, and all the other children, etc. Then, I would show the hardships they endured, and also going back to their original families and how they coped with the death of their children (as the clones only lived a short while).

For a main story, I would want to tell the story of the Spartan II team that was sent far into the reaches of space that we don't hear too much about. I can't remember the name of the team, or even if we know anything about them anymore. But that way, we can have an exciting movie that doesn't interfere or destroy the current story arc and canon.

Edit: And I don't think they will get $100 million for their budget. Unless Microsoft wants to go all out. I don't think they'll risk that much though.

Agreed.

OT: That page about the Halo Movie has been there forever. No official words from Bungie, 343, or Microsoft has been made I believe announcing that it is moving forward.

The Movie was previously halted for multiple reasons.

I was told that District 9 was the Halo movie but because of finances the theme and name was changed.

How dare you call that movie "Avatar". As far as I'm concerned, that movie had no connection to the amazingly awesome show.

The imdb link is fake. I infact posted it 2 years ago; hasn't changed since.

That's just unfair, Shyamalan is the steven king of movies regardless of what you say. He should be kept from doing kung-fu movies, but he is a master at doing horror and suspense.

"On the seventh day, god did not rest, but rather he created 64 player multiplayer!"

That page has been around since 2007 at least, maybe sooner around 2006 when Neill Blomkamp and Peter Jackson were set to make it happen, and I've been active on it. A movie is not happening any time soon. I'm confident that it will happen though.

I think you are misinterpreting this page. I've been following news for this for years now. This page was last updated in May and hasn't changed anything except the article that states that Neil Blomkamp doesn't want to do it anymore.

I'm sorry, but the Halo movie is not happening any time soon. Fox is still holding the rights hostage. Peter Jackson wants to do it, but the nightmare that ensued on their first attempt has any financiers gun-shy. If you can find any articles about them restarting that is actually recent, then I might believe you.
