No, you can't have it. But thanks for asking!

Hello, did a search for Halo CE and 64 bit systems, and really didn't bounce back much on it. Any of you guys have issues with it? I've tried to install CE on my new box with windows 7, and it chokes up on me with serious lags, glitches, and general puke outs. I'm on a rural dial up connection, so I didn't expect happiness in multiplayer, but not getting to play at all on the one high def monitor in the house is bloody awful. Luckily, it still works on my laptop. If anybody has input/experience/a hey stupid-why-didn't-you-try-this? suggestions, I'd appreciate the heck out of them.

Yeah. That's right. I don't have a 50 in H3. I never got Onyx in Reach. If a game sucks too much, I won't even bother trying for such trivial "accolades". Besides, I've done way more things that take far more skill and talent than anything that can be done in a video game.

To my knowledge, Halo PC/CE runs fine on both Vista and Win7 64-bit with no problems. I've run the game on three different computers running Windows 7 64-bit and one computer running Vista 64-bit.

Whatever problems you're having are likely cause by the fact that you're trying the (laughable) task of gaming on dial-up, bad system specs, or both.

I haven't tried to game on dial up--okay, maybe twice, but I gave up after it was obviously a flawed task. What's happening is glitches in campaign. My system specs are 12 GB ram, i7 920 CPU, 1 TB hd, Nvidia GeForce GTS 240 video, SB X-Fi Xtreme audio card. Never the less, it gives me continual error messages when I try to play Halo CE, and when I do get it to run, it freezes, lags, glitches, etc. I tried reinstalling, same issue. It would drive me more nuts if I didn't have my laptop around to get my fix with- but enough already.

Thats odd cause I had it running my laptop which had vista64bit until I upgraded it to Win7 64bit and it runs amazing on both. Specs are only a Core2Duo with 4gb ram and an nvidia 9800gs. It may sound stupid but try reinstalling it or make sure you have it updated to the most recent version.

Time for me to suggest the ol, have you updated graphics drivers etc? No reason why it shouldn't work with that setup.

I was playing Halo PC on Dial-Up for 7 years. I never stopped trying. I was too dedicated to games. xD

On top of that, I played Quake III Arena and Starsiege Tribes. Certain games just would not work online with that connection like Battlefield 1942 and Star Wars Battlefront 2. Good times, good times. Thing is, Halo PC with Dial-Up isn't really all that bad. Example.

Anyways, like everyone else said, try uninstalling it completely then installing it again. Once you've done that, make sure you're running as administrator. I have the same operating system and I've never run into any of these problems. Tough luck. :/

Thanks guys, I'll try updating and reinstalling (not necessarily in that order). I'm not sure what patch I'm on with this, maybe 1.08. I keep getting messages from some Creative ALchemy program when I try to open Halo up, maybe that's the source of my troubles here?

12GB of Ram? Whoa O_O

I run GIS applications, some of those suck an awful lot of juice. Well, and I tend to run with freaking 20 windows open into at least six programs at any one point, especially when I'm on a major research roll, so I had to have a pretty beefy beasty to keep up. I work with ethnobotanical studies and various natural resources projects which require a lot of imaging, cross indexing, etc.

I've always been afraid of screwing up other people's games with my laggy internet connection. It sucks... I love the farm here and otherwise, I'm perfectly content. But moving from a 35mbps connection to a devastatingly slow dial up connection really hurts. It takes me hours to upload some of my work, so usually I just drive into town and hijack my friend's wifi with the laptop. Gaming online in XBL is completely out of the question too. Nice to hear that you've had decent online games with dial up, I might give it a shot again if I can get the program to run right on here.

Yeah, I understand the feeling. A lot of people did get pretty mad when I would join with high ping, but, the game is overall worse for a Dial-Up player than some guy who is in a lobby with a Dial-Up player. If people could just make a small sacrifice by playing one game with a Dial-Up player instead of suggesting they should never play online games things would be better. It's completely selfish to just throw them under the bus.

I lived in a rural neighborhood. It was lovely, but I hated the connection, like you said. We eventually moved only a few miles away from there and found a better connection. So glad I have this now.

Yeah, we're out on the end of the grid. Literally. If fiber optics ever come out this way, I'll have to pay to lay in the last mile of them to reach us. There is one other ranch on this road, I'm hoping to convince them to go in on the fiber optic line with me, but even if we laid it in out to the main road, there's nothing to connect it to yet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for that federal rural telecommunications act to come bring us some cable or FO, or anything really. Out here it's either crappy satellite for an eye gouging price, or crappy dial up for an ear notching price. Ah well... trade offs. I still don't regret buying this farm, even if I do complain about the internet.

Ha! Our old neighborhood actually started to get funds together for cable to reach out there. Half way to the goal some other Internet Company decided to offer this weird local antennae broadband solution. It was actually quite nice.

One thing that I can never stress enough is that anyone in that situation that wants to play online games should never use Satellite. Its at least 10x worse than Dial-Up. Your download speed is much higher but your ping just goes down the crapper.

Sweet guide! Thank you, once again, good soul.

Disclaimer: The Big Beast Box, aka Sheila, is actually a desktop. My laptop is just a plebian dual core with a mere 4 GB RAM, a fast hard drive and a 32 bit system-hence why Halo would work on my laptop (aka The Warthog) but not on 64 bit Sheila.

How could we miss the most obvious fix?...Unbelievable :L. I suppose most of us assumed he already had it all patched and updated.

No problem! I'm not one of those easily offended screechy types. :D

Yeah... the graphics card and the hard drive are the achilles heels of Sheila. I'm probably going to throw on a SSD secondary drive soon, and move my hi rep stuff over to that. Indexing on a TB sux.
