Subject: A ranking/deranking question

Im so so pretty and...uhm your not. ^_^

I am curious how the rank system works

For example if I get a couple friends together and get some profiles to play against them in team doubles the only ranked profile will be my main one.

Which is at a 24 after about 200 games.

So the question is if those 3-4 skilled players beat my real profile will my skill go down?

And wif I beat them will my skill go up, because I dont think it will beating a couple of 2's and 3's.

?

If I beat a brand new halo player ten times in a row will I rank up.

If I lose to a brand new Halo 3 player 10x in a row, will I lose rank?

Losing deranks faster than winning upranks

Losing deranks faster than winning upranks

that seems logical on a lesser player but not on a greater one.

Read carefully because I will only explain this once.

If you play against 2 new accounts in a ranked playlist, or one acc thats within your range and one new acc, then yes you will lose true skill. However losing to them 10x isnt that big of a deal. The reason being, after the 3rd straight win/loss to a particular team the gain/loss of trueskill is all but negated. There is a formula for that, but I dont feel like typing it all out.

On the flip side, beating a new acc and someone at ur skill will not grant you a net gain in trueskill, or rather a minimal gain.

Now the reason for this is based on the opponents trueskill rating vs yours. A brand new account has a unaltered trueskill, while yours has already been changed. Now due to that fact alone regardless of how bad you are, you have advanced 20 ranks already, meaning that the system recognizes you as the better player than the fresh account. Thus the system will have already assumed that you should be the one to win the game. When you lose it is like an error in the system saying it misplaced the 2 of you and the new acc should go up and you should go down. However beating the team with the new acc is what the system already expects and will give you a minimal gain in trueskill.

Before you ask any stupid question, the system has no way of knowing if the person on the new acc is good or not, so even if someone better than you is on it, that has no affect on it at all.
