Why are we off topic. Six if you could take your Tank Conversation to another thread that would be much appreciated.

The gun's name is Type-50 Sniper Rifle System, so it's logical to assume that it was first seen by the UNSC in 2550.

Am I supposed to write something funny here?

And Type-1 Energy Weapon/Sword was first seen when?

Now, after reading that article, i assume that there's a covenant weapon that has REALLY long range.

Well we actually figured out that the range of 4,200 feet was just the longest ever recorded range from a Human. So it can fire farther.

Were not figuring that out. If you actually read the thread you would find out that it wasn't a cheap weapon used commonly in the Covenant Military.

Actually, according to wikipedia the longest recorded sniper kill is 2475 m (8120 ft). The page also says this about L115A3 sniper rifle (the rifle used in the kill):It is still fairly accurate beyond 1,500 m (1,640 yd), but at that distance luck plays as much of a part as anything.

On-topic:
Doesn't Halsey's diary say that while some covenant infantry weapons are superior to human weapons, some are actually inferior to them? According to text above, that rifle is accurate to 1500 m. So I think it's possible for beam rifle to have maximum effective range of about 1500 m. Also should be remembered that a fair amount of covie tech is used for different purposes than the FR stuff they are copied from.

Hmm. I can't remember. It would appear that would be true in the game though.

If you look at this page, you can see that Bungie has given the statistics of the Beam Rifle.

Based on this information, we can deduce that the Beam Rifle wasn't used extensively until the Invasion of Earth and the Battle of Installation 00.
There's another way of looking at it too, you could imagine every enemy in Halo 2 using this weapon and then try to complete the Campaign on Legendary :D

Well yes, but know there's a canon explanation.

At those speeds, the rifle could hit anything. It's almost and idiot proof sniper. No need for leading the target, no need for factoring wind, a really good weapon. No wonder the Jackal Snipers could kill me so easily.
No doubt. Me and rag were discussing this topic, and we began to talk about if this weapon was built on the scale of a Tyrant AA Gun.

Could you even imagine?

I'm guessing that's what the Supercruiser's main weapon system was.

I believe it was just a highly focused Glassing Beam.
