I talk the walk, but I can walk the walk.

I find myself having much more fun on Halo 3 and ODST. In fact, (this is going to sound crazy to many people) I am getting addicted once more to ODST.
How can one be addicted to a campaign-only game? Simple: Be a Halo nerd. Seriously, if you love Halo half as much as me then you will thoroughly enjoy ODST. The game is really all about the little things adding up to one amazing Halo game.
The opening cutscene was awesome. Definitely one of the best cutscenes in all of Halo. Regrouping with your squad and discovering Sadie's Story at the same time was awesome. The two even intertwined with one another. At one point Sadie and Mike take refuge inside of an Oliphant that gets destroyed by a Wraith. You can see that Oliphant while exploring the city.
I don't know if I should bother explaining why I love ODST, though. Because if you get it you get it and if you don't you don't. Some people will read this and nod their heads in agreement and the rest will be considering me insane.
Going back to Halo 3 makes me realize how much easier it is to enjoy myself there as opposed to Reach. I can pretty much look at any map and smile knowing that the only issue I have with any of the maps are the weapons we start with (AR or BR).
Some of the maps are SO good that even AR starts will prevent me from vetoing sometimes. If AR starts on The Pit or Heretic shows up I will definitely second guess my initial thought to vote. And that is when you know you have a good map... is when a competitive player like me considers keeping AR starts in the name of a map.
Halo 3's Campaign was also epic. Back to back grand slams with The Ark followed by The Covenant. Two decently lengthy missions, filled with both vehicular mayhem, stunning scenery (Forward Unto Dawn descent, anyone?), and even close-quarters madness.
The push to stop Truth was also amazing and something I look back on and continue to play with fondness. Two Scarabs dropping in to defend him while the UNSC scrambles to stop him.
I might get the death penalty for saying the following but I'll say it anyway: I actually came to enjoy the mission Cortana. I know most people hate it with a passion and when it comes to level design it probably wasn't the best but that's not what mattered to me there.
Again, it is something I shouldn't bother explaining. Some people know what I am talking about. Although when it comes to the mission Cortana, admittedly, fewer people will agree with me.
I could type for days upon days about each weapon, enemy, engagement, mission, character, and still not be done talking about Halo.
Perhaps it is a nostalgia-induced love for past Halo games but that is irrelevant because I enjoy them more than Reach nonetheless. Who knows, maybe Reach will find itself in the shoes of its older siblings. Maybe I will look back on Reach with the same fondness I am currently giving to all of the other Halo games.
If the glory days of Halo are truly behind us and not to return with this new trilogy then I am just glad to have been apart of it. I will not be able to enjoy the new trilogy as much because of life's callings, but I hope Halo 4-6 can continue to be a positive note in many people's lives. :)
