Subject: "Style": Bungie vs. 343

Has anyone gotten the feeling that with the change in development, the feel, and atmosphere of Halo has changed from what we've been given so far?

With Bungie, their kind of "style" was always slap-stick, while still maintaining the feeling of seriousness. Reach doesn't count.
With 343, the series has taken an odd turn for a super-serious, and almost cheesy feel. It's kind of like-- oh hell, just watch "The Package", and you will see what I mean (though that wasn't necessarily 343's writing. At least I don't think so).

I'm not really complaining, but I always liked that slap-stick feeling the characters of the game gave. It also gave a strong contrast between the UNSC, and the Covenant.

For an example of what I'm talking about:
Halo 2
Tartarus: "The Demon has infiltrated the Council Chamber! Protect the Hierarchs! Seal the exits!"
Cortana: "Oh, I don't think so!"

This may be a bad example, but whatever.

With what we've been given from 343 so far, I really can't help but feel this.

The Package is the only thing they've produced that really strikes me as being cheesy, and thats because it was aimed at more of a younger audience.

But other material like Evolutions, Cryptum, The Duel, and Halo 4 seem to be more seriously serious, which I think is fitting considering the darker route the series is taking (what with the universe itself in danger).

Why would you feel this at all? 343i haven't made any games what so ever.

Didn't I say "from what we've been given so far" twice?

ROBERTO is right, read Cryptum and Evolutions. Its really good stuff! There's a definite sense of seriousness in those stories.

At first I thought 'The Package' was cool, but then I realized it made little to no sense. Thus, making it cheesy.

Misinformed is an understatement to what you're thinking.

There are less than a dozen Bungie people at 343. Everyone there is there because they love Halo. Fun fact: the guy who was in charge of N@zi Zombies is there, and if I remember the news article right, he is now one of the Campaign Heads for H4.

I also agree with blueruby. Halo always felt serious, but not suffocatingly so, there was always enough comic relief to keep the games fun. Everything 343 has made so far is fairly good, but it is all so serious. I don't think I have seen a single line of comic relief from them.

Your example doesn't prove anything, Bungie wrote the Package. 343i seems more interested in the community, just because they have something to prove.

Meep?
The Package was written by Dai Sato, directed by Shinji Aramaki, and ultimately developed by Casio Entertainment.

Regardless 343i didn't write the Package, so I don't understand the point OP is making.
