Hi my name is mike -Blam!- and i want to become an ai programmer.
I looked at the requirements and I need to be pro at C++. Does anybody know any good C++ tutorials, compilers, or anything useful that may help me in taking over the world?

The other thread was perfectly fine, you could have just edited the title. Not that it was a big deal in the first place...

No. Learn from trained professionals with years of experience in order to get a degree to prove you can do the same as them. Other than that, practice.

I asked about taking classes at the community college but they wont let me until im a senior. I've asked everyone i know except for the highly intelligent members of the bungie community so if there is anything other than "college" you can say it would be very helpful indeed

Along with schooling all you can do is self teach yourself the basics of C++ and such. How is that hard to figure out?

Woah Qbix, you are such a boss

You forgot something

Start small, get some credentials. They won't hire someone who just asks for a job with no previous work.

If you are looking to get a jump start on the process and maybe get a feel for programming you should look into Netbeans. One of my teachers showed it to me earlier this year.

I haven't had a lot of time to fool around with it, but if you have a passion for it, you could probably start learning the syntax from the internet. That is what I did for HTML/CSS.

If you want to get hired for a job though, there is no substitute for a college degree.

As someone else said, start small. You can find tutorials on the Internet with relative ease using Google or Youtube for video tutorials.

Try using Netbeans of another compiler to write something simple. I did have time earlier this year to try Visual Basic, one of Microsoft's products. I made a really simple console application which would say "Hello", give me the time of day, and open up different programs for me.

Trial and Error is how you teach yourself. Tutorials will only help you learn the syntax.

We'll their last AI guy was from M.I.T., so you'll have some big shoes to fill. Also Halo AI Retrospective: 8 Years of Work on 30 Seconds of Fun and Building a Better Battle: HALO 3 AI Objectives are worth taking a gander.

I haven't had any experience with Ruby. I have had hardly any experience with Visual Basic. And I have had very little interaction with C++. What I can tell you is that although each of these may be constructed very similarly when making a program, the syntax is very different, and so are the intricacies. If you want to learn C++, take the time to watch tutorials.

Here's some E-books that could cater to your needs. I think they are a little old, but they are free.

  • 07.30.2011 10:20 PM PDT

Seriously, look up tutorials on the internet and just code. Learn the basics through the tutorials you find and from there give yourself a small project to complete before moving onto something harder.
