The reason I say this?

There have been like 5+ John Cena Impersonators and the mods are almost never on when it happens.

Why do you care so much? Don't enter the threads. How hard is that?

God forbid they have their own lives. Stop making spam threads like this and maybe it'll help.

Feel free to send me messages, please be willing to wait 6-8 years for a reply.

1-7 hours if you at least tried to make it readable.

Immediately if you are Yax, Telec, or legendary.

Never if you are mythic, you guys smell funny.

The report button does need to be used more, but moderators could also do more to ban spammer and trolls,as well as locking threads more, rather than just hiding their posts.

"I have no words that would do justice to the atrocities you commit to the English language, as well as your continued assaults on the concepts of basic literacy and logical reasoning."

Some of them only read a few forums and use the reporting system to keep them appraised of the rest of the places that need their attention.

You know, because that is the entire freaking purpose of the report system. I don't expect them to make their experience here suck because their forced to lurk in places they don't like to go. The report system let's them just wait for stuff to pop up in there.

So use it, and stop complaining about how volunteers sometimes aren't giving you 24/7 full coverage.

Why not exactly? The moderators constantly stress that they're ordinary members just like you, me or the OP. What exactly is stopping them from simply stumbling across them like the OP did?

Naa, it's not that bad.

Just a little while ago the Mods had went through the Reach forum and locked a whole lot of off topic threads. They're doing a pretty good job, IMO.

PM mods who are online, use the report button.
It's hardly rocket science - if there is something breaking the rules they will take necessary action - as long as you're willing to highlight it for them and make their lives a whole lot easier.

If you're doing that, you'll realise there is no need to complain.

I'm well aware that they're not going to browse every forum. I'm not expecting them to. What I am expecting if anything is that there will be a wide enough cross section that there is coverage. I'm certainly aware that occasionally there will be days/nights where there simply won't be anyone on because of real life scheduling conflicts and people simply not wanting to be on, but I've also noticed that there has been a general gap in coverage for some time.

It's probably not an issue that will ever really be properly resolved with the site as it is, given the smaller pool of users who'd be a position to be useful ninjas during this gap, and the likely even smaller pool of those who'd be at all good choices.

This isn't an attack on the staff as it is an attack on the constantly shouted matra to REPORT MORE! As above, I expect that if I see, and many other people see it, it is reasonable to expect that someone with the ability to stop it will also see it. If they do, there is no reason to report. If they dont, then reporting it has no other purpose than tidying up after any damage has been done. That tidying up is fairly pointless, because banning throwaway accounts isn't doing any lasting harm, as it's just on to the next alt.

Following from that, apart from the shock sites/waves of parodies/other mass spamming that actually drown out everything else, which I dont report based on the above, I simply don't get bothered enough by what happens to report. I dont care if you're flaming someone or crossing the line in religion/politics, it isn't worth my time to report you because it isn't going to change anything. Flood will still go on as it is, Halo forums would still go on as they are. Removing the small number of offensive posters isn't going to change much, because we cannot remove bad members.

Throw in on top of that that I find reporting makes my experience here suck because I actually have to go and read bad posts before reporting them and why would I? I'm wasting time I could better spend elsewhere reading crap and clicking buttons.

Perhaps it is simply being optimistic that there should be a sufficiently active and varied ninja population that there is better coverage and little need for the report feature for the more serious stuff, but it is what it is.

The tool is useless.
This is absolutley untrue. What people need to understand that given the sheer volume of activity, there just isn't a way to have things happen instantly in real time.

well put, people need to have patience and realize issues will not get taken care of instantly once they hit the report button or spot something

Words.

It sounds like you have a perfectly easy time ignoring the spam that comes into the forum, so I don't know why you're arguing so strongly for having mods on 24/7 to stop the spam when it happens.

You're never going to have 24/7 coverage with unpaid moderators, no matter how many you add (and the closer you get to 24/7 coverage, the amount of butting heads increases exponentially, until no one can be bothered moderating because during peak hours every time you try to close a thread or ban someone, someone else will have already done it). And honestly, you don't need 24/7 coverage. The report button is there so you can tell the moderators someone is breaking the rules, and then they get dealt with accordingly (and within 24 hours almost 100% of the time).

Honestly I don't see the problem with that. It's not instant gratification, sure, but it works. The only way you can get an instant response is if you're a mod.

Still haven't noticed eh, The tool is useless. However this opinion is based on what little knowledge I have regarding the tool.

You have surprisingly less knowledge of the tool than you think if that's your opinion of it.

What's makes me mad is most of the mods on here just hang around this forum and don't go to The Flood, and when they go on the flood during an attack, they just lock everyone.
How do you know what the mods are doing?

  • 07.31.2011 5:59 AM PDT

Per Audacia Ad Astra

Lazy? Or just busy with their own business?

Imagine if there were no moderators at all.

Yeah, a completely different place. Shock sites everywhere.
Appreciate, although I'm sure you do (if not, do so), the effort current moderators make and have made to keep these forums that extra bit further away from being a hellhole.

Why do people in ship mutinies always ask for "better treatment"? I'd ask for a pinball machine, because with all that rocking back and forth, you'd get a lot of free games.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

OR you could also send a mod a link to the thread in a PM. That still works.

Where's the Mod Stalker? It shows you who is available if a PM is necessary.

Here it is.

You people have just sent my sides into orbit. A bunch of MLG try hards sucking the dick of some supposed pro half the thread hasn't even heard of. Classic.

I guess I still remember the old way of doing things. There were just certain places you knew you needed to take a look at for yourself. The Flood was one and then what ever game forum was the most popular.

You cannot deny that walking the beat through some of the more high problem areas will have greater effect than to just sit there and look at the queue. When members start seeing locks and bans being handed out they will generally quiet down for a little bit. Also it will show a presence to the general membership.

I still say BB's idea about moderator rotation would solve issues of people taking huge extended breaks and being further short handed. Also it would help keep guys from getting burned out from digging through the crap.

Oh well. That is all I can post. It is time to head to D.C. for a family get together. I will check back on this later.

From my small amount of experience I can tell you that I found the report queue to be very unenjoyable. Much worse than reading through a bunch of threads...

Reading through a bunch of threads is what I come here to do... Going into a report queue was like a chore.
So much stuff doesn't get reported either and is much easier to catch if you're active in the forums.

At least with reading through the forums you can balance some good with the bad... The report queue is all bad.

Just my opinion based on my experience.

poor ilitch

Most of the mods have other commitments, like jobs, families, etc etc. Even when they're online, you can't expect them to be everywhere at all times.
