How does one become a moderator? I spend a fair bit of my spare time of B.net and I would like to think I could help.

I lol'd at the absurd miscommunication that occurs whenever dibbs post something. Perhaps his brain is so highly evolved that he can no longer clearly communicate with lesser life forms, even among his own species.

I guess this begs the question then; when fully collapsed posts are sitting in the universe forum for a good day or two, is that because the collapsed posts aren't getting sent to the report queue or because no moderators are on to handle it (for a day and a half)?

A certain segment of the population is using the report feature as it was intended and not seeing any results from it. I think it might be time to shift from the tired argument that users just aren't reporting enough.

Why don't you just ban people by there IPs instead? Then that same troll can't make another account and they wouldn't be allowed back. I use the report button, but some others don't. That shouldn't be my fault for others actions choosing not to do so.

It is not our job to moderate as someone already pointed out. We're merely volunteers. We can't be on at all times and we do rely on assistance via the report queue.

While other things don't require our immediate attention, shocksites are something we aim to remove as quickly as possible. If you come across malicious content, report it and feel free to try contacting us via PM. I myself don't even mind being contacted via Twitter though I can't speak for other moderators on that front.

We can't be on 24/7, though our response time is generally relatively quick. We ask you be patient and that you be careful when dealing with links leading to off-sites when surfing anywhere on the web.

I agree, but sometimes it's ridiculous. I feel as though, at times, there is not enough efficiency in the Flood. We need more Mods that would be more focused on that area of Bnet.

Or they could just check the report queue. There was a racist thread in the flood a couple days ago that was up for a few hours. One thread was locked in the community forum an hour after that thread was posted; I waited to see if that thread would be taken care of but it was ignored. It's true that mods can't always be on, but it was apparent that one was on at least for a little bit.

If you do add more mods you do increase the likelihood that one will be on at any given time. Saying "More mods don't do anything!" isn't exactly true.

Because it is quite easy to obtain a new IP address.

I'd like to be able to use Bungie.net at College regardless of whether or not some asshat on the opposite side of my dorm is intent on spamming shock site links.

Bungie just bans by cookies, its very stupid. Believe me, people wouldn't bother changing there IPs over and over to spam this site. Sure they would do it maybe two or three times, but by then they would probably get sick of doing it an stop.

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

Hello! I'm Bunie.net's resident medical student (hell i'm sure there are more but I'm the only one who openly declares it!) I love my emblem, and I am periodically active.
I have a Twitter

I hope your reporting them, if you don't report they can't do anything. Maybe we are lazy?

Don't consider me as "we."

Its obvious something needs to be done about this issue, its not going to stop anytime soon. I'm guessing, Achronos is expecting the spammers to go away like a rain cloud.

Edit:

Another thread

Oh lookeeeee here, yet another thread.

Why do people in ship mutinies always ask for "better treatment"? I'd ask for a pinball machine, because with all that rocking back and forth, you'd get a lot of free games.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

I think you are exaggerating this 'issue'.

A personal thanks to Ninja's who feel that shocksites are a top priority. I can't tell you how much I've been caught browsing the Bungie forums, and suddenly having a "you know what" on my screen.

The moderators have lives you know. They aren't some omnipotent deity that exists just to clean up the forums. They eat, sleep, work, and attend social functions. They do what they do because they volunteered to do it. I wouldn't want to moderate a forum that has ungrateful people like you yelling my ear off.
