I hope your reporting them, if you don't report they can't do anything. Maybe we are lazy?

Don't consider me as "we."

Its obvious something needs to be done about this issue, its not going to stop anytime soon. I'm guessing, Achronos is expecting the spammers to go away like a rain cloud.

The moderators have lives you know. They aren't some omnipotent deity that exists just to clean up the forums. They eat, sleep, work, and attend social functions. They do what they do because they volunteered to do it. I wouldn't want to moderate a forum that has ungrateful people like you yelling my ear off.

I know the mods have lives and there volunteers, don't assume I don't know that. I'm not ungrateful either and I'm pretty sure I'm not yelling if I'm typing. I just said they should IP ban people who spam a named hyperlink and I was just stating my opinion. I have freedom of speech too you know.

Your post sounded contrary to what you just said, but it is difficult to determine emotion through text. Should they IP ban them? Sure, but what I'm trying to say is that complaining about it doesn't solve anything. The subject has most likely come up and the rest is up to their judgement.

Actually complaining sometimes resolves the issue because they will eventually get sick of all the spamming of shock sites an they will most likely get irritated about it. Then they just might fix the problem.

For some reason, irritating the moderators seems to be a very foolish endeavor.

I'm not talking about bothering the moderators, I'm referring too complaining on the forums in general. Maybe the employees will get what they got too do............ eventually.

Dianna Agron is the epitome of perfection.

Quinntology.

So here is what we do. We hire (and when I say hire I mean select people for hire) to moderate the forums for a "price" (and by price I mean actual money and such)

Then, after 100-1000 people are hired, then everything will be fine! And everything will be on topic and there won't be any spam. No trolls either. And because so many different opinions on moderation means A LOT of things will be locked.

Do you get my point? Unless there are a ridiculous amount of moderators selected, and there are real tangible things that you get for moderating the forums, it won't ever be "fixed."

It's fine as it is. We have enough and (for the most part) they're fairly good at doing what they're doing. Just because a bunch of idiots decide to go on a rebellious spree in the off topic forum doesn't mean the worlds going to end. Just don't go on the forum for a bit. THERE'S AN IDEA!

It sounds like you have a perfectly easy time ignoring the spam that comes into the forum, so I don't know why you're arguing so strongly for having mods on 24/7 to stop the spam when it happens.
This is a joke right?

You're never going to have 24/7 coverage with unpaid moderators, no matter how many you addYou don't need 24/7 coverage, no one's asking for 24/7 coverage. Nerd even made it pretty clear he was ruling out 24/7 coverage. The only person here talking about 24/7 anything is you.

And now, also, me. 24/7 coverage is pretty difficult (far from impossible) to achieve. The appearance of 24/7 coverage, on the other hand (which is all you really need), is easy to attain.

and the closer you get to 24/7 coverage, the amount of butting heads increases exponentially, until no one can be bothered moderating because during peak hours every time you try to close a thread or ban someone, someone else will have already done itThis isn't a reason to not increase the numbers of moderators. This is a reason to get less -blam!- tools.

The report buttonThe report button sucks. Sad, but true.

You have surprisingly less knowledge of the tool than you think if that's your opinion of it.Hence proving the point that the tool sucks. If the users think the tool sucks, the problem is not with the users, it's with the tool and those unable to see its failings and continuing to preach it as some sort of panacea. The tool isn't dependent on some behind-the-curtain look-not-lest-ye-be-smited magic beyond the capabilities of mere users, it's entirely dependent on users using it, and using it en masse. We don't, we think it's -blam!-, and the only stuff it catches are the obvious shock site links, which is all report tools are good for. Report tools are not at all useful for moderation. Moderators are.

Sometimes i wonder what planet some of you live on. Twenty four hour response times? Give over, son.

Just because they were dealt with doesn't mean anything. Those same trolls are just going to keep coming back for more and more because they won't hand out IP bans.

Make me a Ninja for a week and you'll find out. Sadly in today's world I can't just say I'm trustworthy and people believe me for it. But it has been my dream to be a Bungie Moderator.

Why hello there.

What I see in this thread, is people who do not understand that the mods aren't perfect. The mods are volunteers. They have lives, families, jobs etc. They can't be on the forums to moderate 24/7. Don't like it? Tough. If you ever see a problem, just hit the report button and a mod will get there as soon as he/she can.

I simply brought up the notion of 24/7 coverage as hyperbole to convey that you're all creating unrealistic demands for any team of moderators. If you think its terrible to have a spam thread open for a whole 24 hours with no response, you're in serious need of re-evaluating your own priorities in life. And yes, I said a full day. The horror right?

We do our best to eliminate the nasty, malicious content as quickly as possible. As I stated, an hour response time, while long to you, isn't that long in the grand scheme of things. If you have a problem looking at the forum when said things are there, ignore it or even try walking away from your computer for some fresh air. No site or game is meant to be surfed for hours on end. Breaks are necessary.

I thought the whole 'chained to a desk at Bungie' thing was true? If not, I doubt Bungie's control. There I said it.

Breaks are necessary.
So, instead of actually addressing my point you're just going to imply I'm sat here doing nothing but browsing forums for hours on end, and that because I think 24 hours is an utterly ridiculous amount of time for one of you to do the job you volunteered to do, the problem lies with me and my worthless life?

Classy. as. -blam!-.

This is a forum of tens of thousands of users. The flood, in particular, sees a three figure number of threads across a 24 hour period. 24 hours is a really -blam!- long time. If you don't think so, you don't need to re-assess your priorities in your life in the same way you think I'd benefit from; I'm sure you lead a rich and fulfilling life bursting with wonder and amazement. You need to re-assess your priorities with regards to this forum because you're talking nothing but 100% grade a horse -blam!-e.

You also need to look at who I was actually replying to.

How about we just get their address, and send Qbix to their house to slap them, it's more effective than an IP ban.

Or you could report and move on. That's a cliche, but it works most of the time. The only time it doesn't work is when people don't use the report button.
Report the post and ignore the troll. It's that simple.

Maybe a series of strongly worded PM's is the best place to take the argument...

Anywho, the best way in my opinion to stop those shock site 'posters' is to re-define the link mechanics. I remember Achronos saying something to the effect of,"Blacklisting certain sites won't work, there are too many. However, allowing links to pass through a number of pre-approved sites could be an alternative."
This is something that I stand by as a short-term solution, if it gets out of control. I don't think we've reached that point quite yet.

I think we need to keep encouraging to click the 'report' button. Even if a moderator can't get to it, it's hidden from users. (After a certain amount.) Once it's hidden, unless a sheer collapse of common sense occurs, users will refrain from clicking the link.

Or, users can start to use common sense... but I doubt that will happen.

I do use the report button, but the problem is the, "ignoring part." Its hard to ignore a big wall of spam that no one else reports besides me. An whenever I go to a thread, I read what the OP says, an then look at the all the replies, and then I reply.
