My only idea really is too IP ban people, yes I know moderators do not have power on this site too do so. But if they did, then that would help out these forums a lot from trolls with all there alts.
I'm no expert on this subject but here goes: a lot of people here are in college and a lot people in college use the same IP address. If you IP ban one person, you'll be blocking a whole bunch of people on said IP. People with a dynamic address dodge the bullet as well.
Banning someone by IP address is like trying to catch a car thief by sitting in one car and hoping he tries to steal it.

The easiest way to approach the problem is not to get rid of disruptive people, but to add worth to accounts; to reward constructive members. The simplest way to do that is to add a significant time delay between creating the account and using the account. Say, a month before you can post in the flood, 3 months or more before you can post threads.

That's a little much. If I would have had to wait an entire month to enter certain forums and a quarter of a year to make a thread, I would have left this site.

Maybe they could do something a little more reasonable like 1 day to a week for posting or making a new thread, that way alts won't be as big of a problem.

I think there was a 24-hour wait for thread creation when I made this account, can't really remember.

Yeah, what Covy Killer said.

If banning peoples IP, but then your banning other people that have my may not done that. Basically innocent civilians getting shot in a crime happening.

An if we can't make people wait too long or too short to post on the forums. Then what else is there left too do? I'm not saying the report system doesn't work, just the structure how it is set up doesn't exactly work.

EDIT: @Covy Killer, yes there is a 24 hour wait to create a topic.

Is anyone else having trouble connecting some of the analogies in this thread?

I forgot about that, but yea something like that seem good, maybe add a hour wait period to post in the forms to avoid alts spamming in other threads.

That actually sounds decent. Actual new members would have a bit to get acquainted with the site.

Well the only way to stop that (If I'm correct) would be Ip tracking.

To me, the biggest problems are alt accounts. They are easy to make, they can easily join the website and after a small period of waiting they can go about there business until later we roll in take care of it. And then the cycle starts all over again.

Oh it's this again.

What's the point?
Even classy ladies let their hormones off the leash occasionally. During that time of the month I try not to retort too heavily, or else the fire takes longer to turn to embers.

I've said it many times before, the only way you will see significant improvements is if the forum structure itself is changed (think post restrictions and the like, which will allow the community to better moderate itself). Current moderator capabilities are vastly overestimated by the community; there is only so much our toolset can achieve.

Could you imagine a troll with power?

*cough*

All that this does is lower my opinion of Pezza. Why? Because he didn't press charges, neither did Bungie, neither did the owner of the credit cards or whoever else was involved.

It's one thing to mess with someone online, it's another thing to -blam!- with their personal info in the real world.
If anyone ever did that to me, I would sue them for every cent they were worth.

It may seem like the only way, but JAF does proof a point there. There is the one major flaw in that idea

We need to think of ideas for new users.

Ideas

1. Make the new user wait an hour, before they can post
2. Make the new user wait a week before they can use urls
3. Make a user only be able to post so many urls in a 24 time period.

Those are the only ones I can think of for now, maybe some of you have some better ideas with more potential.

I mean, all of our moderators have been responsible and dutiful in their roles!
Of all the choices, and they are legion, you bring up Impy? Say what you like about our probably very seriously insane friend, he did the job properly.

stop arguing for the sake of argument, you seem jealous that YOU are not a moderator. they cannot be there 24 hours a day on call for every bad thread created, if a bad thread is there for 24 hours so be it.. I think you fail to realize that every other forum on the internet, whether it be auto forums, halo wars forums etc, they have loads more spam then bungie forums..

You should be grateful bad threads are only around for less than a day instead of complaining.

Oh shut up with that. No one ever thinks that and it's such a 4 year old thing to say. Like the whole "People who call names do it just because they feel that way about themselves" BS that parents feed their kids.

I know this is Offtopic, but I found his post quite stupid as well.

It's not off topic at all, in fact, it SHOULD BE the topic.

We've been having way too many of these annoying "Mods aren't doing anything" whiney baby threads.
Just shut up and post your bronie videos, OP.

yoo•zel- ('yoo-zhul): slang: vb.

Officium quod Fidelitas.

This is very simple... pick a moderator or few and crack off a pm that simply states the user's name, the crime and it'll be taken care of as quickly as possible.

We're very well aware that alternate accounts are a problem around here but if you know something about them then what's the harm and letting us know before they start causing problems? My message box has gone dark as of late when it comes to dealing with knuckleheads. I know there's no material reward for helping but regardless you can and will ultimately help out the greater good.

Posted by: Onyx81
Well, I'm on Bungie every day as I've stated before, and it seems like days go by and people groan because they know exactly who the Alternate was made by as soon as the "crime" (I.E. John Cena) happens. Then throughout the said day, the alternate account keeps posting more and more until it is locked. I've seen an alternate go for close to a weel without getting banned one time.

But again, it goes back to you guys not being online all the time. IDK, maybe it's just a talent the community has developed after being trolled for so long. At least to me, I feel like other people recognize it. It's probably mainly because the trolls repeat the same crime over and over.

Case and point: don't worry about it. Girls start getting boobies pretty soon, and then you'll have plenty of other things to think about. Being an Inheritor is not a life goal.

I find giving links to the threads showing what the user has done helps.

did you even read his previous posts from the past few pages?he was bantering the mods instead of saying constructive ideas.. i didn't call him a name either, i don't know where you are getting this information from.

P.S, if i was 4 years old, i would not be able to use a computer and be on these forums...

If you just PM the mod with a link to the thread it helps alot

That is even better and should be noted. All to often when I do receive a PM it's "Some guy is spamming in the Flood" and that's it. That's like trying to find a needle in a haystack!

I figured it would be more like finding a needle in a needle stack.

I think what we need is a little template on how to report a user...

***Fill out this form and send to a ninja in case of Rule Breaking***

Username of Offender:
Link to Thread(s):
Description of Offense:

******

There you go guys, Use that and everything will be good.

Perhaps better if this was linked to threads, you could report a thread based on these and it saves the hyperlinking and the system does it for you.

Of course you would need a couple of reports on the thread, Ninjas can't go swarming a thread because one report has come through.

Not a bad idea though, a report template.

Inactive? How often are you on the Community Forum? The mods are here very often. But they can't always look both way for us when we're crossing a street. Nor can they look both ways for us on multiple streets at once.

You get what I'm saying, they are busy elsewhere other than here and even when they are here they have a lot on their plates what with all the reports coming through and PMs about dodgey threads. They cannot always be there to help with shocksite spammers or whoever else people deem fit to report, we have the report button to bring things to their attention. + The number of Mods who have posted on here as it is prove you wrong about them being inactive, just because they are on this site doesn't mean they need to check in with all the users on all the Forums.

The is no secret it's common sense elmicker, You just have to learn to sit back and not take this site so seriously and also not get all worked up and argue about every little thing that you don't necessarily agree with if it isn't causing harm to anyone.

It is not our job to moderate as someone already pointed out. We're merely volunteers. We can't be on at all times and we do rely on assistance via the report queue.

While other things don't require our immediate attention, shocksites are something we aim to remove as quickly as possible. If you come across malicious content, report it and feel free to try contacting us via PM. I myself don't even mind being contacted via Twitter though I can't speak for other moderators on that front.

We can't be on 24/7, though our response time is generally relatively quick. We ask you be patient and that you be careful when dealing with links leading to off-sites when surfing anywhere on the web.

I agree, but sometimes it's ridiculous. I feel as though, at times, there is not enough efficiency in the Flood. We need more Mods that would be more focused on that area of Bnet.
