Subject: Mods: STEP IT UP

The above narrative was superfluously verbose, and, consequently, I have not committed time to its perusal.

Damn you, Qbix!

Well, it's not a job. It's not like anyone gets paid to moderate the site. I think it's more of a hobby, really. They have lives outside of this website.

We could probably use 6 more mods.

-blam!-, sometimes I think I'd do better than some of them.
Same here, but that isn't going to happen. Report and move on.

It does no -blam!- good. I just -blam!-ed out Achronos the other day for wanting to get rid of the Flood, and I pissed him off pretty bad, but I'm starting to wonder if I should be so disinclined to agree with him.

He never wanted to nuke the Flood.
Granting a name to today's events only fuels the fire.
Mods aren't required to be on.
Threads like these only encourage the trolls.
Use the report button.
The spammers are insanely obvious. Ignore them.

Orly? You don't go there, so you wouldn't see the spam. They aren't spam threads, they're spam in the threads. You know,

I do go to The Flood and I do see the spam. But it gets taken care of relatively quick. In the end, rule breakers meet the banhammer.

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time.

I know who you are.

You are Destiny.

We'll get a new batch of novices come the announcement of Bungie's next IP.

lol the flood forum. That's your first mistake.

I don't always ban people but when I do I laugh uncontrollably...that's if I was a Forum Ninja.

Truth is a matter of perception.

The Button

If you use Firefox, hover over a link and it's URL will appear in the left or right bottom corners.

If you use IE9, right click the link and go to properties and it will tell you the URL.

I'm not sure about any other browsers.

It wasn't even that bad, and why are you guys always wanting to give names to days? I never understood this.

This kind of thing always happens every so often.

We're actually trying to figure out what to call tonight, it was so bad that it's worthy of a title like Porch Day and Ponygeddon received.

Relax. I'd rather not piss this thing off.

While mods are awesome because they do have the shiny buttons, I do have a counter argument here.

Community: BEHAVE, REPORT, MOVE ON

Goodness.

Don't get me wrong, if we really need it, let's get more mods. But we do have the tools to take care of the late night shenanigans.

Well no you see we dont. I cannot block an offensive user, I cannot hide an offensive post, I cannot stop a user making offensive posts, I can do just about bugger all. My one and only option is to press a button (well push a button and then press a second unneeded button but that's another story) and then hope that:

a)Enough other people push the button and;
b)That there is someone online to see the results of said button pushing.

If there is noone on then nothing gets taken care of, unless one if of the particularly dense sort and thinks that the user(s) getting banned place any sort of value on their account and therefore getting it banned hours after the damage has been done is in any way a deterrent.

I understand that you can't hide an offensive post right away, or block a user from the forums.

The report button is not your only choice. You can't just move on from the post? If the flood is being flooded (no pun intended) with spam, it's probably a good idea to stay out (or if you insist on staying during a spam attack, check your links and *gasp* use the report button).

Besides, the ninjas won't always be on. We could have a hundred mods, but spammers will wait for a gap in ninja log ins.

Honestly, if someone is around here enough, it would be silly of them to expect the mods to always be around to make sure that no one takes their pink ribbon off their eyes.

Anyways, this always happens when there's a spam attack. It's late at night and no one with shiny buttons is online. It's going to happen.

Except that isn't a tool. The only 'tools' we have are the report button and PMs, and both are almost entirely useless, particularly in situations such as this one. Anything else isn't a tool, it is just pretending the problem doesn't exist, and to that end you might as well propose that we have no moderators because I can always just set fire to my computer to keep the bad posts away.
