Subject: Mods: STEP IT UP

cars, girls & cake all day everyday

But that's the issue, it shouldn't.

The moderators have other stuff to do, they have lives, they're always "busy"...and believe it or not that's a bad thing; we need moderators here who not only have a decent and strong knowledge of community management and proper judgement call abilities, but who can put in a certain amount of hours into this site a week for the entire time they're given the tasks, regardless of it being volunteer work, because they're simply devoted like that. They've got to step their game up with the selection process...

Cortana 5 is a carbon-based lifeform that frequently visits these forums, currently residing in the United States. Practically every male on the site responds to her posts.

Okay, so I used the wrong word.

It's an SOL situation that will come up again. The kids will get banned and create more accounts.

I suppose the point I originally wanted to make was that the mods we have now don't need to "step it up." It's 1 am PST. Should I start calling people up so they can ban people?

Should we schedule our three (maybe three, that's generous) international mods for the US graveyard shift?

And ignoring the flood for the night isn't "pretending" that the problem doesn't exist. Stupid stuff happens at 1 in the morning on the internet; it's silly that people are flabbergasted over the fact that it's in the flood too. Is it okay that it happens here? No.

Hell, I'm not against getting more mods, like I said. But it's not the end of the internet, let alone the flood, that this happens at least once a week because the moderators went to bed.

(Yikes, I left this sitting in a tab after I got distracted. Delaaaaaaayed reply)

Except that isn't a tool. The only 'tools' we have are the report button and PMs, and both are almost entirely useless, particularly in situations such as this one. Anything else isn't a tool, it is just pretending the problem doesn't exist, and to that end you might as well propose that we have no moderators because I can always just set fire to my computer to keep the bad posts away.

That's wonderful. It is 1816 AEST. Sure is late hey. What an unthinkable hour for people to be up at.

Now then here is a shocking, groundbreaking thought: Get more (active) international mods.

Isn't that why they started picking more mods in not-US? I would think so; if you want moderation coverage 24/7 it's only logical...then again it is 1 am, and we're still awake...

I should throw in here that Coup is raising the rate of alt account creations because of it's ability to mask those alts as regular users...another reason why it sucks.

Why the hell not? I'm just saying that our current guys aren't crap for going to bed.

It's 2am my time, thus I have no decent arguments.

I would argue that they're not always "busy." People just get mad when this stuff happens. I know that a lot of the moderation work goes unseen; so it's easy to get mad when something isn't caught before it blows up like this. I like our currents moderation team, and I don't mind if it expanded.

Don't get me wrong, I don't like seeing the site go haywire. I would rather this not happen. But like I said, we're seeing a gap where it's betime and the internet comes out to play.

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time.

I know who you are.

You are Destiny.

Perhaps there should be a select group of dedicated twelve year olds to moderate the forums 24/7. Remember, twelve year olds are in middle school (i.e., there's nothing going on in middle school--ever), so their dedication to the project is unquestioned. Does this technically go against child labor laws? It might, but clean forums are worth the consequences.

I believe funding should go towards this idea immediately. I take Visa AND MasterCard.

Thank you.

All jokes aside; it really wouldn't hurt if they started looking into the younger crowd, man. Guaranteed, there are plenty of 15-16 year olds who frequent forums like these that can prove themselves mature and smart enough to have basic moderation privileges (I know there are, having been a part of and helping to build a group moderating team with people my age, 18, and younger, back in the older b.net days)

(Wait, I should make that 19...my birthday is tomorrow)

I don't wish to start a new thread in fear that I will be blacklisted. The last couple of threads I have looked at have been dealt with too severely. Blacklisting for wrong forum? Personally I think that's too far.
Balancing up absence by over-activity is not the solution. Consistency is.
