I just got a new PC (Store-bought, I don't have the energy or time or money to attempt building one) and I'm wondering about optimizing it for Halo. Now oddly - I run it on my old PC:
Intel Pentium 4 2.8 GHz
512 MB RAM
64 MB [shared] Video [Intel Extreme integrated]
2 GB allocated to Virtual Memory
And it doesn't show particle effects (So I'm an easy grenade kill) or detail textures (I.E. Master Chief is white with a black visor, and I can't see bushes)
Other than that, however, it runs fine. Good response and everything. Just looks like hell...
Now my new PC:
AMD Athlon 64 3400 (I think it's a 2.2GHz, but I'm unsure)
1 GB RAM
256 MB (shared) nVidia GeForce 6100 Integrated
4 GB allocated to Virtual Memory
Looks WAY better, I can see all the neat little graphic effects and all of that, but it runs really slow. I tried locking the framerate, and it doesn't make a lot of difference. I'm hoping the 400 MHz slower chip didn't eat it up that badly, but I'm really not sure.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
The problem is your integrated graphics chip. It sucks.
Upgrade to a 6600 GT at least, but if you have the money, get a 7800 GT or a 7800 GTX.
