I just got a new PC (Store-bought, I don't have the energy or time or money to attempt building one) and I'm wondering about optimizing it for Halo. Now oddly - I run it on my old PC:

Intel Pentium 4 2.8 GHz
512 MB RAM
64 MB [shared] Video [Intel Extreme integrated]
2 GB allocated to Virtual Memory

And it doesn't show particle effects (So I'm an easy grenade kill) or detail textures (I.E. Master Chief is white with a black visor, and I can't see bushes)
Other than that, however, it runs fine. Good response and everything. Just looks like hell...

Now my new PC:

AMD Athlon 64 3400 (I think it's a 2.2GHz, but I'm unsure)
1 GB RAM
256 MB (shared) nVidia GeForce 6100 Integrated
4 GB allocated to Virtual Memory

Looks WAY better, I can see all the neat little graphic effects and all of that, but it runs really slow. I tried locking the framerate, and it doesn't make a lot of difference. I'm hoping the 400 MHz slower chip didn't eat it up that badly, but I'm really not sure.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

get a new card
is it pci, pci-e or agp
6800 pci-e
6600 agp
cant find any pci card the 6600 and 6800 are the best for the price
the 6800 will have no problem running ovlivion

go to this site and find out what oblivion needs
(note the site is.. well has some problems so just dont pay to muchmind to the processor stuff)

The problem is your integrated graphics chip. It sucks.

Upgrade to a 6600 GT at least, but if you have the money, get a 7800 GT or a 7800 GTX.

Both are integrated. I had no problem with integrated graphics before. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it.." y'know?

But apparently it's broke. :P

No, it's working fine. It's just intel extreme integrated graphics, while having pretty decent specs, are utter -blam!-. With 1GB of ram (it has no dedicated memory of its own so has to leech from the system), it manages a steady 9 FPS in cunter-strike: source, with the game hacked to go as low as it goes. Integrated graphics are a definite no-go tbh. If you're looking for a graphics card and yuo've got a PCI-E slot, i highly recommend the Palit 6800GS 512mb Super, it manages 144fps with everything cranked up on the CS:S stress test and 64 fps on the Half Life 2: Lost coast HDR stress test. It'll piss all over oblivion, just as it does to FEAR and BF2

An integrated 6100 GT still sucks.

It isn't the fact that an "Integrated" card sucks because it is integrated. Integrated cards suck because they are usually very bad. 6100 GT (integrated) is a decent card, capable of running Halo without problems.

Exactly how many people need to tell a Mod that he needs a new graphics card? I mean, I thought the first few dozen times were more than sufficient, but I suppose I have a different view of what constitues an adequate amount of re-hashing the same solution.

Zone Trooper: Nice sig.

Well, well, well... look what happens when I leave for a day or so. Suddenly a ninja posts for help in the Maw? That's a good thing. I don't know why, but all the mods seem to think they can't ask for help. Now I think I'll laugh hysterically.

the 6800 GS is alot slower than the 6800GT. Its still a nice card, but not as good. And there are AGP versions of the 6800GT but most are discontinued.

This mobo doesn't have AGP, but it has PCI-e, so I'm OK as far as shopping for a new card.

Well, as much as I'd like to, I can't help much since I always have a new video card (not to brag or anything), except to say upgrade your video card. I do have something to say though: Have you downloaded XFire?
I must say, there are no games more fun than the ones played against the people from these forums, specially at the gatherings Tues and Thurs (and maybe Fridays at the TUI server) Plus, many people here are very good at the game, which is great for training! XFire would help locate these people as well as all the other features that I won't go through since they are at the Sticky.

Good luck with your PC!
