Subject: Possible fix to "Shock Site Spammers"

Posted by: Top_Gun_2021

Oh no, someone posting something that can easily be forgotten about by ignoring it, woe is me.

It may be easy to avoid, but there will be those people who are curious and complain about it. It would be best to just implement something to stop the alt spam that way people don't haveto complain about alts spamming, and we would never have to have this argument.

Why do people in ship mutinies always ask for "better treatment"? I'd ask for a pinball machine, because with all that rocking back and forth, you'd get a lot of free games.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

No, they should get what was coming to them because they walked right into it.

As much as it might be their fault for not being able to properly avoid it, wouldn't it be better to just not have to deal with people complaining about this and making multiple threads about the same thing?

This reminds me of the time someone sued McDonald because their coffee was hot.

In jedem system der Macht gibt es korruption.

Det vore klokt att tro att det inte finns några undantag.

While it's not a bad idea, that helps the offenders hide so we don't know who they are.

Though to go against that, perhaps they would see it isn't worth the effort or they would lose their ridiculous troll rage within 24 hours.

I don't click on the link, I HATE THE STUPID CHINA WALL OF TEXT.

Top gun will says back: Oh scroll down.

Like I said before it shouldn't be necessary for the 1,000,000th time.

To be fair, in that specific incident she got third degree burns all over her thigh through clothing and she needed skin graphs (maybe).

I do get your point, though.

While this is a good idea, I'm not sure if it's possible.
I'm no expert on the subject, but I don't think you can just disable coding like that.
A script could be written, but I don't think Bungie would make it themselves, or make it official.

EDIT: I'm a fool, they removed [img] functionality.

I completely agree.

This new "Shane Dawson" shock site spammer thinks he is going to start some new wave of spammers in the Bungie.net community. We could either all man up and ignore these pathetic shock site spammers while the moderators and Achronos sit back and laugh, or we can push them until they have to make some sort of update to the Bungie.net community forums to make it much harder for these spammers to prevail.

or, just go with option 1, along with this guy...

Or people can be smart and not click the links.

*cough*

It's strange how you can be suddenly civil. Regardless, people shouldn't have to worry about the links on threads. Of course there will always be the odd link but that's unavoidable.

  • 07.31.2011 4:36 PM PDT

Suck it Red!

If this were put into place(which I doubt it ever will) the spammers would just start making multiple accounts days, weeks, etc before their next spam attack just to be ready.

This is where the "trust factor" comes into play. So they can't bulk up on accounts.

I support. This would be a great way to stop the trollers.

Or people can be smart and not click the links.

It's kind of distracting and derails the whole forum.

It is only distracting because you don't ignore it.

I really, really hate this mentality. If something like this can be avoided with a few simple, quick methods, why not?

According to your logic, a bullied child gets bullied because he's going the wrong way home. When, in fact, the other kids are just being jerks. Your rational is, in all honesty, skewed and jaded.

I agree, people should be more cautious when clicking links, especially in times like this - I'm in no way denying any bit of that. But what would be the harm in helping the situation? What would be the harm if a few virgin eyes are saved from the horrors? Especially if the code would take about an hour to write, no matter how you look at it - unless Bungie goes the super-complex route.

A whopping 10-20 dollars to protects someones innocence/privacy/computer/mentality/persona/life - I'd say it's well worth the price tag - that is on the assumption that the web team gets paid between 10-20 dollars an hour. If their pay is up to 50 dollars an hour? I, personally, would still say it's well worth the price tag in the long run.

Bad coloration. Anyways, It is not the kid's fault the first time, he could have had zero knowledge of the bully. It is his fault the second, third, and fourth time when he knows a the bully is there yet keeps doing the same thing.

I think a PSA-esque "Don't clock on suspicious links" thing should be done first.

Which we've all been telling people, and The Flood has had a few threads about safe browsing, which obviously isn't working.

To alter the scenario of the bullied kid, let's say he isn't on his way home - let's say he's in school, at home, at work, or again, even on his way home. This seems more like the situation with the shock site links; they're encountered at every turn.

One would say "check every link", or tell someone about the bullies. Yet one would quickly run out of breathe, or find themselves against more bullies for telling. It's a lose-lose situation without intervention, whether it be a bully or a spammer.

Would intervention against the spammers be that bad?
The web team has more things to worry about than our safe browsing.I agree, to an extent - roughly an hours work is hardly anything to fuss over. It's not like its being asked of the web team to completely alter how links work or something.

It would be a simple modification, whether it be a redirecting page, a perpetually updated blacklist, or delaying the ability to use links.

yoo•zel- ('yoo-zhul): slang: vb.

Officium quod Fidelitas.

Regarding links, you have to keep in mind people are increasingly using URL shortening services to hide what they're linking to or redirecting to. It's a risk for anyone on the forum to click them as well as the staff. We all know the internet is not safe but anymore it's not as easy as making a redirection or a pop up screen such as how Blizzard's forums work.

I would agree with this in the fact that links to viruses shouldn't be on here.

I suggest we kill them all.

Failing that, we should go with Rokit's blacklist idea.

Why not ban those such services? (goo.gl, tinyurl, etc)

If someone really wants to take you to another page, it's quicker and easier to just copy the regular URL, that way, there is no threat of hidden shock sites.

If you have nothing to hide, then don't.

There was a small discussion of this in
The mods seem Lazy recently that we had around page 6.

It's summer. They have lives too.

Also, why don't they just make the link titles -blam!-ed out?

  • 07.31.2011 6:44 PM PDT

Shakes Magic 8 Ball

Better idea, make the url to those sites "Blammed" so that when they're linked, the link is broken by itself.
