Hi, I've returned from a lengthy Halo hiatus. I was wondering if anyone could update me on the status of various mysteries that existed prior to my departure.

Specifically, was there any greater purpose to the BOBs other than killing them for a data pad? What sort of revelations have been discovered from the data pads?

As I reacquaint myself with the intricacies of the Halo Universe I'm sure I'll have more questions. Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

It seems the data pads will have a link to the forerunner trilogy.

The synopsis for Halo: Primordium (book 2) seems to imply that Chakas was disembodied somehow and the books takes place from his viewpoint. He is telling his story to "the last true reclaimer" which seems to imply master chief; greg bear hinted that the spartan-IIs are all genetically related to chakas and/or riser. Point being, chakas is alive is some way shape or form (turned into an AI?) in 2553 or whenever, it seems.

Reading the data pads it appears there is a human/organic voice at the beginning of each one. This is followed by the discussions of a whole bunch of AIs, guiding humanity. It would make sense that the human voice is Chakas.

Anyways, everything seems to be strongly linked to the events of the forerunner trilogy, including Halo 4-6.

As for the bobs, no one knows.

Maybe the BOBs are like the SPARTANs of the Covenant?

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

If you haven't read Halo Cryptum, you should note that before the Halos were activated, humans had achieved near-Forerunner technological status and formed an alliance with the San-Shyuum (Prophets). Until the Forerunner literally kicked our asses back to the Stone Age, that is.

There is much more than that to be told, it's a very good read.

I need to start reading these books.

Good list but this is quite wrong.

We are not their brothers. They went to war with us because we were encroaching onto their territory. We would not stop so they blasted us back to the stone age. It wasn't until after the fact that the forerunner found out we were running from the flood - we had even developed a cure. But by that point the cure and most of humanity were utterly destroyed. The forerunner made a massive mistake in killing us and they paid for it...the entire galaxy paid for it with their lives.

I can not even tell you how unlikely it is for two separate races to have highly similar DNA. The didact himself things they were both created by the precursors which we will find out 1/3/2012 (we are going to die next year).

They de-evolved us because they finally had a "reason" to get rid of the competition. If they were so "noble" they would have found out why there most "hated enemy" is acting odd and irrational, not to mention out of 3 million worlds they could have given a few systems to the humans.

Er...are you disagreeing with something I said? Because I'm not sure where anything I said contradicts what you said...

Or were you just adding on...

Read Cryptom. Pretty much redefines a lot of the assumptions made about precursor/forerunner/human relationships.

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

The most important thing you need to know out of all of this, though, is Master Chief no longer has a codpiece in Halo 4. D:

I think you need to recheck who has been posting what.

You two are talking about two facets of the same topic, and neither of you are wrong. Where's the conflict?

Yeah Grey Wazooty was disagreeing with the list that was posted before him. You're reading the quotes wrong.

Well, they were probably both influenced/created by the Precursors. I also think one of the lines of thought was that humans were precursors before willingly devolving themselves (I can't recall if that was a definitive thing in Cryptum, or just an idea.)

I think the implication that they were "brothers" is wrong though. That makes me think they were the same species and then one faction decided to alter their genetics while the other didn't. I believe Humans and Forerunners were two distinct races; probably similar in many respects and made by the same creator, but distinct.

Thanks for the information, though I think the brother thing is probably a mistake.
Where did the information on an EOD "BOB" helmet come from? I'm curious to read more about it if you have a source.

Oh, that's neat. It's nice to know the data pads are going to be expounded on. I did read Cryptum, but that was back in January. That's an interesting plot synopsis for book two though.

I would have to go back through the data pads and look at that through the lens of it being Chakas. That's an interesting notion, but my first response isn't in agreement.
