The Forerunner, the Great Journey, and Heaven Theory

[Announcement Trailer] Halo: Forerunner

I lol'd at the absurd miscommunication that occurs whenever dibbs post something. Perhaps his brain is so highly evolved that he can no longer clearly communicate with lesser life forms, even among his own species.

All I hear from all of you.

Achronos you forgot a key part in the steak making process!

You must allow your steak to get to room temperature before you place it on the grill. It is much more tender and flavorful.

If you don't, well, you have no idea what you're missing out on.

You thought that you could trust people here to know something without telling them? (Actually, even if you did tell them, I'm not sure they would comprehend.)

Anyhow, what are your thoughts on charcoal grilling, or the use of wood-chips? In my opinion, they add great taste, but I usually don't have the time.

Of course, it's all about Heinz.
Everything tastes better with Ketchup, and it's got to be Heinz.
you mean Tobasco?

I've never been able to understand why people need to do all those things to their steaks. You let the steak hit room temperature, rub some salt on pepper on each side, and then lob it on the grill. Five minutes, then rotate 90 degrees. Five minutes, rotate 90 degrees, and flip. Five minutes, then rotate 90 degrees. After five minutes, flip the steak, and close the lid to the grill. Temperature should be at about 400 degrees. 500 degrees and up is too hot. Let them cook for about another five minutes.

Total cooking time, about 20 minutes. Steak should come out a beautiful medium. Any more well done, and you're too close to cooking steak like my Grandma. God bless her, but steak is no her forte. Any more rare, and it's too rare. Let the steak sit a few minutes

If you do it right, the flavor of the meat should speak for itself. No need for your fancy steak seasonings, or butter. Eat with horseradish, and enjoy

That, gentlemen, is how a real man cooks a steak.

The salt and pepper dry rub is fine if you don't have a bottle of Stubb's Beef Marinade. I also recommend a baked potato on the side and an ice cold Dominion Ale to wash it all down.

That's bull-blam!- steaks should be well and a bit burnt and cooked on anything BUT a gas grill. But I do agree with the part about ketchup and A1

And we'll not speak of those who put ketchup on steak.

Nonsense. What's wrong with putting ketchup on steak? I like having a juicy medium rare steak with fries and ketchup.

In addition, the extravagent detail that you have put forth in describing the steak of "perfection" causes me to long for steak at this hour... Achronos, you should make a youtube video on making steak, that way I can grill my own steak to perfection.

Venison tender loin is far superior to steak. particularly southern fried and salted with a side of brown gravy, or simply drenched in it.

I was young, I was surviving the times. Waiting for my moment I was destined to shine. And I seized it!

Working in a fine-dining restaurant deffinitely opened my eyes to the joys of rare / medium-rare meat. Personally I keep it to salt and a pinch of pepper.

You know what would go great as a side for this quality Omaha steak?

King Crab legs, extra butter salted, and of course heated not cold, also needs some green in your meal. Like baked asparagus, or broccoli or grilled mushroom. None of the cheap microwave-package stuff either. BRB I'm hungry.

Congratulations on the win and amazing thread BTW

If you're putting A1 on a steak, you're doing it wrong.
Quoting the literal -blam!- out of this. Steak sauce, contrary to its name, is the last thing you should be putting on a steak. Except perhaps ketchup.

Steaks 101:

Take your steak out, rub it down vigorously with loads of salt, freshly ground black pepper and olive oil. Leave it to stand. Don't worry about excess, this comes off when cooking.
Heat up a pan to as hot as you can physically get it without it catching fire
Cook your steak for approximately two minutes (or to taste) on each side, turning once.
This is the important bit: Leave your steak to stand for five minutes before you eat it. This is the difference between an average steak and a -blam!- good steak.

If you must insist on sauce, then a creamy pepper sauce is the only way to go. Sauces are meant to compliment the meat, not stick to it and overpower it with the taste of sugar, tomatoes and vinegar. If your intended condiment is coming from a bottle, just stop now and donate the steak to a worthier cause.

-blam!-, now I really want a steak.

where the hell are the culinary masterminds? NO LOVE FOR BLUE CHEESE?
Cheese? On a steak? Good lord, you're worse than the ketchup brigade. Leave cheese to the foods that it improves, like chicken.

You lost me with pan.

You have to be the worst "chef" I have ever seen. Grilling or Barbaque is the only to cook a steak. Anything else is insulting to the steak.

The fact you left out Sweat Baby Rays only shows that you are a Staff Captain of cooking. Not even Onyx at cooking; a mere tin foil rank for you neophyte.

Grills don't reach the required heat quickly enough to seal the surface to retain all the juices and barbecues don't ever reach that temperature, at least not before your meat is burnt to a crisp. Steaks are best pan fried or griddled. Grilling is acceptable if you prefer the results, but barbecue? I genuinely don't understand why you'd do that to your meat. Remember you're not cooking the steak outright, and this isn't exactly half-fat half-gristle factory-produced rump, either. It needs searing to develop flavour, not cooking.

Sweat Baby RaysThis isn't a hunk of cow leg we're talking about here, this is a top sirloin steak. That's very nearly as good as meat gets. Why on earth would you want to put bottled sugary gloop all over one of the most brilliantly subtle and complex, fantastically textured bits of animal you'll ever get the opportunity to chew?
