As for you guys saying "this is a thread for ForceMorph", that's really stupid and immature.

*snip*

I think those remarks were more intended to be derogatory toward ForceMorph than anyone else. At least that’s how I saw it.

As for the rest of your post, I agree completely, although I don’t think it’s that big of a problem as you make it out to be. I would also like to point out that almost all “n00b bashing,” as it were, has stemmed from said new folks senselessly bashing Bungie’s older games (the “halo is the only good game etc. thread is a good example of this.) If I see some dude post something along the lines of “OMG u r stuped halo is teh best!!11!!!1!” of course I’m going to harass the kid. Now, I’m not promoting flaming, and I certainly don’t want there to be any kind of rift between the older and newer bungie communities, but I’m just telling it like I see it.

(Oh, and as one of those Post Script things: One should note that although I hold nothing against Halo fan boys in particular, I seem to have gone insane by some rather traumatic events that accrued sometime between 1999 and 2001.

*cough*microsoft*cough*)

Sigh, damm database errors!
Anyways, I have unknowingly become an elitist, which is what I hate the most. Just like those damm Subnovans except less hostile. I intend to change.

Ok Lysergicide.... stop... breathe... and come up with some sort of factual evidence to prove your claims, instead of just flaming everybody (and I mean everybody).

The chance to prove thyself is now...

Myth was great, but it died a horrible, unsightly, public death... I still play on playmyth every so often but
its not the same. If you see me say hey, I try to host every so often, look for Brave Sir Robin, the original.

Oni was very good, even played it multiplayer @ Mac World in San Fran, many moons ago... Too bad multi
never saw retail...

Minotaur was a fun multiplayer game.

Many nights of Marathon on my College newspaper computers.. I miss Bob & the flamethrower deathscream.

Abuse was one of the best side scrollers ever...!!!

Hope we see a "mythlike" game from Bungie in the future.
Halo is fun, but I waited a loooong time for an OSX version. Hopefully thats not the case with H2.

I have to disagree with you. Myth suffered a "near-fatal-blow" when Bungie.net went down. It obviously never fully recovered, and has slowly been dying ever since. With the recent downfall of The Mill, it's really only a matter of time, however.

I think everyones a dumbass, not just the new Halo kids. Just because you're oldskool doesn't mean -blam!- in my eyes. Hell y'all don't even know oldskool. I whoop all y'alls asses in the oldskool department. So don't let thy opinions about games define thyself.

That just goes to show, exactly how oldskool and kooler than all of you I am. I used the word "thy", which in my time was the only word that existed. Way before the time of n00bs, hell it was before the letter N was even invented.

Everything at that time was so oldskool that you had spend your whole life in skool just to learn how spell the only words that existed, thy and oldskool, and your whole life was just long enough to show you how much it sucked. That's why oldskool people like me are so bitter, cause we lived too long.

So don't pick on anyone, no matter who you are, because chances are, I'm cooler than you.

LMAO You think saying "thy" makes you old skool?!
Just 'cuz you joined in 2002 doesnt make you old skool.

Old skool people are RESPECTED, for one. Let me give you an example. There is a guy on Myth that's been around for a long time. He's won tournaments. Sounds old skool, but he acts like a complete and total jackass. Thus only his suck up friends( like, two of them ) call him old skool, and so he is bascially not considered old skool. Everyone else that's been around for as long as him and doesn't act like a total moron is called old skool.

And you know what those old skool guys do? They WELCOME NEW PEOPLE.

Nothing to disagree with me about, it died, or is dying. No matter what the cause its a shame. I applaud
the efforts of the comunity to try & save it, Take Two dropped it like a rock, it was one of the best games
ever and they let it die....

More in the other post, will they ever make a mythlike game again. I wish something could be done to
bring it back. M3 is working good now & looks so much better then M2, but no one will buy M3 it would
seem, they want to keep playing M2... Why play something that looks so much worse. M3 used
to have many players online @ any given time, no longer is the case, and its unfortunate...

Oni multi player died as well, I played a working multi demo, it would have been a good release or addon.

I agree with your other post as well, M2 seems to have its share of losers that just abuse others
& talk smack all day. On my server they get the quick boot, but its hard to filter the losers when they
keep changing thier name, color, etc etc... Most of the wankers have multiple accounts & screen names...

After all people, its a game, why be so hostile to others. Ill dish it out if someone starts $hit, but
some people get off on fing up other peoples games & servers... Ban the lot of them...

If the M3 you're referring to is Myth 3, that would be because it's not Bungie... 1 and 2 were Bungie games and as such earned themselves a great deal of respect and had ample re-playability.
And you ask why people would play games that "don't look as good"? Take a look at Marathon... graphics wise it's only just above Doom... gameplay and story wise, it's still topping teh charts. Don't dismiss things because they're not as shiny as newer ones ;-)

Point well taken Gaara, M3 solo was not as good as M1 & 2, but the multi is good, it just looks
so much better then 2. Just think of what it would look like with Bungie behind it now...!!!

I agree with your Marathon analogy, but people have moved to Halo, much like I would have
thought M2 players would have moved to M3, some did, 100's maybe, but not 1000's. Its also
not the best analogy since Halo is its own thing, many peolpe that love & play Halo never saw
Marathon or Myth, many probably only play it on Xbox..?

For me its not its own thing, its an extension of Marathon, its lacking some of the things I loved
about Marathon, but it has things Marathon never had & looks great. Im not saying looks are
everything, but when given the choice I would choose Halo & Myth 3 multi player over Marathon
or Myth 2 multiplayer. Even though I would probably choose a 400hp 1966 Vette over a 500hp 2005 Vette. ;-)

If you look at my post you'll see that, for once, I wasn't comparing Marathon with Halo. I was pointing out that a well crafted game still beats a shiny one any day. If you read me as comparing the 2 thats your own fault :P and I've been horribly stereotyped....

New analogy. What do you use? Dull-looking Steel Sword or Shiny Gold Sword?

The Dull Steel. Why? Because gold is just pretty but doesn't count for crap in a fight ;-)
Tristan

I like that analogy :-D

I hated m3 singleplayer. I only play co-op nowadays on Myth, and if the SP sux so will the coop

  • 09.09.2004 3:50 PM PDT

My main problem with Myth 3 was that while it did have great graphics, it lost most of the subtleties that made Myth: TFL and Myth II: SB so great.

Myth 3 is, for the most part, a very bright and colorful game. The forests and lush and green, and the desert and mountain terrains are not washed out and desolate enough. Myth TFL and 2 both used drab (almost washed out) earth colors to convey the hopeless, war torn, medieval mood that made the SP Myth experience so great. At times, Myth 3 felt more like trying to save the mushroom kingdom from Bowser than a battle to defend Myth against Moagim and the Watcher.

The explosions in Myth 3 didn't cut it for me either. The physics engines for Myth TFL and 2 made one shudder when a pile of satchel charges went off or a wight detonated. I felt that the explosions in Myth 3 did not look as good or feel as frightening as is Myth TFL and 2.

I did feel however, that the story was a good attempt at continuity. There were only a few points at which I found large discrepencies between the Myth 3 story and the canonical Bungie Myth TFL and 2 story. (The mispronunciation of the Gjol River was one that screamed out at me like finger nails on a black board.) Overall, I enjoyed the presentation of the story.

I give God Games and Take 2 a lot of credit for the good job they did, especially with the story. While Myth 3 obviously was not as great as its Bungie-made predecessors, it was neither an abomination nor an embarassment to the Myth series.
