You ever played any other Halo campaign?

Every campaign had at least one random conversation and jokes by the AI.

Does war actually kill off your sense of humour?

Bungie has done a terrible job with atmosphere after Halo 2. Its really sad to see my favorite game and story be treated like a joke. Making things like drivable forklifts and Moa, more important than things like global battle and character development.
I've become increasingly irritated with Bungie's sense of humor and the Halo games looking like they were made for a 14year old. (See Halo 3)
This is why I am happy to see them leaving Halo and hopefully 343i can actually create an atmosphere that Halo deserves.

Edit: I will say ODST had great environmental atmosphere.

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

I love Halo 3, but I have to say the cheesy Grunt lines and humor in Halo 3 went too far.

Best. Halo. Ever.

Apart from CE.

So ignore my previous statement.

ODST was brilliant.

At the time I didn't appreciate it. I thought it too short and I'd let my hype get the better of me. But going back to it after the disappointment that is Reach's campaign, I can truly appreciate it.

It told a very human story, and told it very well, linking threads of the plot together in a way Reach just utterly failed to do. And to say they were cracking jokes all the time isn't true; there were moments of true emotion in ODST, where the despondency the troopers were battling through really crashed into you. Not to mention how great the voice acting was; when compared to Reach's it's really clear how good ODST's was. Now as a bit of a Browncoat and a huge BSG fan, I might be a bit biased, but I thought Nathan Fillion, Alan Tudyk, Adam Baldwin and Tricia Helfer did an amazing job. Nolan North was pretty good too.

And the music and art was really something. It created an ambience that was wonderful, and I'd often just roam around the city enjoying the phenomenal soundtrack and looking around at the ravaged metropolis and its absolutely gorgeous night-time skybox.

The game had its flaws, but all in all I loved it. Hopefully 343i will return to the ODST's story some day. I'd love to see the cast of the game post-Halo 3, even if it's just for a cameo in the new trilogy.

My jokes, so I don't lose them (ignore this):
ZedFish's Opinion on Sgt. Foley.
ZedFish's Forerunner Rickroll.

The way I see it...it's a game, and it wouldn't be very fun if you died in one shot.
Like Operation Flashpoint.

Hike a few miles before being sniped by a soldier you can't see in another province, then respawn and do it all again. Simulator, indeed.

Anyhoo, I thought ODST was spot-on for atmosphere with the Rookie's night-time segments, but some of the flashbacks (namely ONI Alpha Site, NMPD and parts of Kizingo Boulevard) kills it a bit with a few quick-jab one-liners. Humour can be humour without a joke, Bungie.

Nemo Me Impune Lacessit

well the part about cracking jokes dosent make it a parody, in fact it makes it more beleivable that these guys are just normal soldiers, as even today soldiers in combat zones will crack jokes at each other and about the enemy to try and lift the tension, i get your point about ODSTs taken way more punishment that they should be able to but its a game ffs.

Jesus loves you! But I think you're a -blam!-

That's where the books come in handy.
