Subject: Why john must not die but retire and live a normal life.

Ahh it's you. Been a while hasn't it? We WILL finish this.

Just you wait.

Look guys I think john the master chief is a kick ass soldier who should always be in his armor fighting off humanities threats and saving humanity and all of civilization. But honestly enough is enough. He has to retire. Honestly its like every action movie or game ends up with humanities savior dying. If he goes MIA people are just gonna be asking for a halo 7,8 and 9.

Why does he have to retire so badly? A few reasons. But my first reason is that what's the point of saving something when you don't even know what it is. John has never had a normal life. Just war. I kind of want him to get a normal life and see what he's preserved. You know he can rent an apartment and live with cortana. That kind of life. And if he can( I doubt it though. Really unlikely. Cortana might get jealous.) Get a woman and start his own family( But like I said very unlikely, Cortana will beetch.)

Second, he the mothafreakin master chief petty officer john 117. Most MC fans see him as a godly figure. I am one not really one of those fans I like Fred, Noble six and Emile better. But if he died those diehard fans would be crushed that the god of halo is dead. My brother said if chief died he would burn all halo related stuff. I would feel sorry for them and a little piece of me would've died with the chief.

Like I said making him go MIA would just make halo fanbous ask for more and that would be terribly annoying. I think cortana would agree with is if she was real and I hope this reaches 343. And also I hope at the end of halo 6 they don't really show him living normally that would be in a book or journal.

Or we can have him meld with a Forerunner and join them then never see him again. Ever.

Then he rents an apartment rite?On earth and he shows off to everybody. That works as long as he doesn't die or go MIA. And he better not continue fighting or people will whine for more halo games.

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

No, he should die. I've had enough of these "happy endings", they always end the same. John must die in order to prove Halo is truly different from everything else, the hero we've been with for so long must go out with a bang rather than settle down because that's not going to be possible for a Spartan to have a happily ever after. They are indoctrinated into warfare, they know nothing else. I do not want to see The Sims: Halo Edition popping up in 6 years time.

No, he joins the Forerunners, walks into a light, and we never see or hear from him again for the rest of Halo's story.

We kill that which we do not understand...and then promptly tea-bag it.

First off, do you REALLY think that MC can live a normal life, after all his years of war, encountering the Flood (possible he is slightly insane). Heck, I doubt he ever returns to Earth or even the UNSC colonies. Cortana would be shut down if she ever returned to the UNSC, after all of her data has been extracted. Oh, and when your brother said he would burn all of his Halo stuff if MC died, it sounded like MC was "taking his talents to south beach". But, really, what do YOU think he would do if he lived. If you were seriously thinking paragraph 2 was a possibility, then my theories of rapid de-evolution of humanity have finally been confirmed. I am ready to bow down to our Ape overlords.

One there will be no such game as that. And two big deal maria was able to live a normal life. John can do it too. And the point of him having a happy ending is too see what he has preserved, what he has saved. And its not completely a happy ending. He's gonna have trouble making friends with those augmentations.

Difference being Maria didn't see everything John saw. Put the -blam!- out of his misery.

you clearly don't watch tv, movies, or video games if you just said that.

We don't know WHY maria was retired, it could be an ONI experiment for all we know so don't use that as an example.

Lol nice argument. I also said I kind of doubt paragraph 2. And poor cortana. Chief will be sad. And sure he can live a normal life. One maria was able to do it. And two even though he's faced the worst enemies in the galaxy and has been fighting them for decades john hasn't just had a tough body he's also had a tough mind. I gurantee he can keep his sanity.

Also spartans are made to adapt to even the most unfamiliar environments and battlefields. I'm pretty sure he can adapt to living a regular life. Anyway the whope point of it is to aee what he has preserved and protected. And decide whether it was worth going through all that pain.

Have you ever read the books? John is absolutely TERRIFIED of the Flood. His sanity is the one thing I know isn't stable.

  • 08.02.2011 10:10 AM PDT

We kill that which we do not understand...and then promptly tea-bag it.

That ending lacks any real creativity, and will never satisfy Halo/MC fans. BTW, your argument/justification for this ending is devoid of any persuasive reasoning and reality of MC's situation. If he returned to the UNSC, then he would begin fighting again (probably a rejuvenated Insurrection force). All of the people he knew and loved are dead (except Lord Hood but that hardly rectifies is loneliness). He personally witnessed the Flood, and conversed with the Gravemind. It is his journey now, and if he finds peace, be it through death or finding and joining the Forerunners (not sure about that though), I'll be happy.
P.S.-His sanity is slowly crumbling away, even if he still has his icy demeanor. Even the forerunners were terrified by the Flood, MC is no different.

One why would 343 screw us and make something that retarded. I can gurantee that will never happen. And so what if maria retiring was just ONI. The point is she was able to do it. Able to get a job meet a man( although secks must have been painful) and become a loving mother.

John could do this too.

I am going to say you are a child and know absolutely nothing.

Today alot of war vets suffer from PTSD and are not able to operate in a normal environment. chief would have to find a job, become social, etc which would be hard to do after never doing that in your life.

Are you sure?

Did Maria even see a fraction of the -blam!- John had to do? Hell, he even met a former friend, possibly girlfriend, in Halo: Evolutions and he realized he could never reveal who he was. She thought John died years ago, and his flash-clone did, can you imagine John coming back with NOBODY to love and NOWHERE to go?

so chief "settling down" and having a wife, kids etc is more satisfying to you Than just being killed? you do understand that if he isn't killed HE WILL BE MILKED and you can't "guarantee" anything. you can't even spell the word, lol.

for the last time nothing was ever elaborated about her, when was it said she was a mom? i want a link

are you a child or an extremely emotional girl that is a hopeless romantic?

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

I made a similar thread in the Waypoint Forums.

I think it'd be nice to have something like the prologue at the end of Harry Potter. I'm not much of a Harry Potter fan. I only saw the first movie and the last movie part 2. lol. But, it seemed fitting for them to end it the way they did. With a prologue of them just carrying on normally, peacefully.

My first choice would be to have him die, though. I think that'd be best. Have him die heroically too, not from a sentinel shot to the head. Ironically, his death would bring peace to him. I remember reading one of the novels and in one situation he was likely to die and it, ironically, brought him peace.

I thinks its time to end this post, by the huge amount of disagreeing responses (including my own). You are entitled to your own opinion, but we really have no say in the ending of MC's saga, unless of course MC meets a Wookie and begins fighting against the Empire...

Its like you ignored me saying he has a tough mind. He is terrified of the flood. I've read the books. But there's no where said he broke. No I think john can overcome that and live a normal life. If he starts to go insane he can go for therapy. Hell recover.

Look I could go on all day countering every argument you make but you know I'm rite. John can live a normal life. You just want him to have the typical die a hero crap. Look I don't even mean they seriously make a three hundred page book about him living in the suburbs. Its just hinted in a journal or book. Like " Its been three years and John impressively has been able to live a normal life. Just like maria."

I agree here. As you said 343i will be devoloping him more in this one, that some of his behaviors will have changed considering what's happened too him.

Someone who's been traumatized will not be able to lead a normal life, especially after the Flood encounter. He has no more friends, no more relatives that he knows of, and anyone he's ever loved is dead, except perhaps Parisa (anyone think they'll expand on her? Just curious).

He has no role in this universe other then to defend it, and once that is done, what will he do?

I think it'd be fitting for him to join the Forerunners on the Great Journey, perhaps even alone, as the first major step in humanity's inheritance, after he is done. He may not be dead, but he'll be keeping watch (but of course we need to know what the Journey is, truly, before any conclusions can be drawn).
