Just think about it. Millions play Halo for a number of reasons.

Just take a look. In Halo you can drive vehicles while your fellow marines are gunning. What other game can you do something like that? Another is the surprise factor. I was recently playing Doom3 and every time one of those things jumps out of no-where and scares the sh-- out of me! I don't mind this if it happened every once in awhile, but it happens in every room you go to. Another is the story line. The story line is easy to follow, but complex at the same time. It has recurring characters, like Sgt. Johnson for example.

These are only a few reasons. What do you guys think?

I guess it's because Halo isn't necessarily ground-breaking, but because it's what makes a solid-shooter. The visuals and story line is great, but the controls and gameplay is what made it so successful. You could do more with the number of eight weapons in the game than you could do in most games with 20. It was also balanced, and you could only carry two weapons. There are many reasons it rocks, not just because it looks good, plays good, and sounds good, but it sticks to the rules of a good solid-shooter, adding its own little twist here and there.

And dude, what's this doing in the Maw?

I hadn't played too many FPS games before (just Dooms, Unreals and Quakes, I think) but I thought that the weapons, which although they weren't completely new (every game has a shotgun) were pretty original and every weapon has its use some way or another. In a game like Doom 3, if you have the pistol and the shotgun, there is no reason why to ever switch from the latter. In Halo, the pistol has its uses, as does the shotgun. In Halo, you can only use 2 weapons at a time, requiring some strategy as well. And the shields... that I think is one of the best improvements into an FPS.

Of course, what really won me over at first was the Covenant... Just take a look at an Elite or Hunter, a Needler, a Beam Rifle, all works of art.

Right now, though, I think MP is what keeps me playing.

lol Halo's balancing sucks

Yeah, compared to Halo 2's game, it isn't all that balanced. But hear me out.

If your enemy has a shotgun, and you have a pistol, and both of you are in close quarters, your enemy has a better chance of winning, but you still have a chance. Get it?

In Halo 2, you have an SMG, and if your enemy has a sword, in close quarters, if your enemy is 1/4 of a decent player you will go down.

I think Halo isn't that balanced compared to H2, but in many ways it's more balanced than a lot of games.

Warthogs man, its all about the warthogs. I think its hands-down the best videogame vehicle evar!

And the gameplay is fun. Sure there are glitches here and there, but its still fun. People that worry about every single point get really frustrated but there are great moments in every game if you just play.

I can play BF2 for hours and I won't get as many of the "Riding shotgun in a warthog and an enemies rocket blows us into the air and we get ejected and I kill the guy that shot the rocket but then I get squashed by the hog that I was just riding in."

The game just keeps me in stitches.
