Subject: Where everybody knows your name ?

.... it seems that our home away from home .. B.net has been getting quiet over the last few weeks. Every post around here is like a whos who, insteed of the mass confusion there has always been since I arrived at least.

Mabey I'm just starting to reconize a lot more names or something. I'm not sure what my point is... I guess I was just wondering why have so many people moved on...? or is spring just springing ? I imagine my time will be dwindling as the seasons change. I don't know...

I just think it is an interesting topic for the Septagon. Has there even been a change at all ???? Maybe my eyes are just openning up more.

P.S. I do realize most of you don't know me, but thats a different issue. : )

Always the philosopher, but i agree with you, i mean in my short time at bungie i have even noticed that, although it seems i have been fast-tracked from forums to groups to the website scene but i still visit here at least once a day.

Ah well, out with the old in with the new. I guess in when we are all gone and growing old it will be "What the hell is a Shishka?"

I have a good 3-5 years left in me. I wont be going anywhere unless I get married which wont be happening in a long time or if college gets hard which wont be happening for atleast 3 years from now. So you guys will be seeing a lot of me from now to then and hopefully I'll be seeing the lot of you too.

I know of everyone in this thread excpet the first two posters, although not all of them will know me, I rarely post but check thse forums everyday. Also do alot of group work and website work.

Anyway to get back on topic, new people are always joining so not everyone is going to know everyone ever. (that makes no sense)

And calling Goldhawk, Golden Hawk was cute, I will have to give him some stick for that, thanks.

I doubt it's Bungie's design. If it is, then they are brilliant. But I think that people kind of start off in the public forums of Bungie.net. But they eventually graduate, either to groups, or to fansites.

I set out to do just that. I spent a long time in new mombasa at first. I told myself that I had to ask questions and figure out a lot of things before attempting to incorparate into the community. After a while, I began to spead out over B.net which many people then helped me spread to other fan sites. Bungie has been a huge part of my progression. I find myself doing things on this comp that would have appeared like wizardry a short year ago. Not that I'm at my end, by any means. I would like to take this chance to thank B.net and how they operate. There is no bigger newness than I, but many have been very patient with me, and I am very thankful for it. So things aren't slowing down than... eeeh ? We are mabey just missing the next gen of people? Does that make us like "Graduating Class of Halo 2?" as people move on. Ha,ha. I don't think I'll leave, but I have certainly started to expand myself, and look for the next place to learn more.

Eventually, I'll get tired of this place. I already feel that way. Nothing Interesting goes on here anymore. Its just the same thing over and over again. I've been her for over 2 years and its been fun. But if we don't get something new to talk about or to play with, you'll probably won't see me that much. Even now i post in groups everyday but maybe once a week in the main forums. I do however read alot of what goes on here. But yeah, Maybe I'll be here for a few more years.

Cheers. Now, where's Yoozel?

Inactivity is a natural part of a forums life. Forums follow sinusoidial-like activity. They experience points of high activity, then fall into points of low activity, then rise back up. Just wait a bit...

I've been around these parts for almost eight years now...wow! Maybe I should be concerned about that...

I see...the mataphysical meaning of this is that you need to eat more kittens. But the reason people move on is because they get bored on B.net.

I have an idea about all this. It's just sort of a trend I spotted. I doubt it's Bungie's design. If it is, then they are brilliant. But I think that people kind of start off in the public forums of Bungie.net. But they eventually graduate, either to groups, or to fansites. Places where they are admins, and they get to appreciate Bungiedom in whatever way they think is best. Which opens the door for new folks to get on the public forums an make their marks. As well as get to know the other people making their marks at the same time.

To me it sort of reminds me of college. It's like you went to this school and I went to this same school. And we both indetify with it, but not necessarily with each other. Maybe you went there 5 years ago and I went there 10 years ago. And neither of us is there now. But we each separately still get together with the people we were there with and appreciate the old times. And sort of relive them, but in a different place.

Pay attention, see if I'm onto something. Based on all the websites I've seen from people saying, "We used to be on Bungie.net back in the day," I think I'm onto something. Because some of these groups don't even know each other. Because they left/graduated from Bungie at completely different times.

And then there's the folks that decide to stick around the school after graduation. And they stick around to welcome all the new generations. As well as to receive all the older generations when they stop back to reminisce. This group of people, is very small, it's like Shishka, Sketch and probably some people who we don't know, but who the old timers do. This group is vital to the whole operation working. If no-one stuck around to support the institution and the community it would fade into memories. But if people upkeep it, then the presence persists and people cherish it.

Eh, it's just my idea. Take from it what you will. Or completely dismiss it, which is also perfectly fine by me.

Lets see, heard of Halo, came here, found the forum, did the forum thing, found some groups to join, joined them, advanced to admin, then took on being Admin of an entire forum on a fansite.

I love b.net, I come back here every now and then to check out the latest WWU, surf The Underground, maybe stick my nose into The Septagon, and the thing is, the majority of peeps I see on here are new, theres the odd one who becomes common for a month or two, and then of course there are the oldies, some of whome have become Mods, which I am glad to see.

I am a happy to be a graduate of the B.net website, forum, and groups, and have fond memories of my time here, expect to see me around every now and then. Later yall!

Well it's always good to see you posting here every now and then Synthmilk. antiherosk8er, I know what you mean. I'm always in The Septagon just lurking and waiting for good threads to pop up. That sort of things doesn't happen much anymore but the activity in the Septagon has increased a lot in my opinion. I'm just waiting for Bungie to announce their new project just so we have something to talk about. I know my activity will drop in the summer because of work but it'll come back sooner or later. This place is like my second home now, seems weird but it's the tru7h :)

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

And on topic again, if everyone knew everyone then the forums would be boring anyway. What keeps me here is the fact I know I could meet new people everytime I come on.

Yeah, I guess you're right. The Septagon has been dead for a bit, and I've been bogged down with work, so I don't visit this site too much anymore. And I have a eeling I'm just going to be getting more work. =[

I honestly don't know about others, but i know that i've had quite a bit of school and university preparation stuff to be getting on with recently. I still visit the site everyday, but i find it hard to post in any thread other than ones in The Septagon. I'm sure activity will pick up sometime.
