I haven't been here for a while. Popped in when I saw the visual change. Sorry if this has been mentioned before.

Just curious, though. Bungie's going multiplatform and they've been independent of Microsoft for a while now. I wonder if they're going to change the login system from using Windows Live IDs.

I remember hearing about back in the day when it was originally changed to this system. I'm sure it has a ton of benefits, and more than just XBOX players have a WLID, but it may not fit the "multiplatform approach" Bungie seems to be going for now.

I wouldn't mind seeing them downgraded to a "link to" feature to access XBL gamertag features, but I'm also aware of the difficulty the team would have getting everyone to switch over and changing the site infrastructure. Plus it's almost like they're outsourcing account management and security to Microsoft, so I'm sure accounts individualized to Bungie.net would be more expensive to the company.

Regardless, I've been thinking about this for a while. Do you think it's viable?

I'm asking the same questions, i'd like to see something official on this. I can understand why they would have to change from the WLID system, but how will the PSN users log in?

I'm not familiar with how PSN accounts work, but if they have a similar login system to WLID then isn't it possible that it just be added as another way to login rather than removing WLID? Couldn't there just be multiple ways to login?

Edit: I don't have an answer to your question CAVX as there has been no official announcement, to my knowledge, just thought I'd throw my own out there.

Why do people in ship mutinies always ask for "better treatment"? I'd ask for a pinball machine, because with all that rocking back and forth, you'd get a lot of free games.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

And make things harder for people?

Whisper Game Studios - shhhh, it's a public secret.

Yeah I brought this up a couple months ago too.

No official word on it, but I would assume that Bungie will change the system to their own account, then send us temporary passwords to our "mailing list" email, or something similar to that. Then we can add our XBL, PSN, Steam, Facebook, accounts, etc.

I'd like to see that. I'm pretty used to the WLID setup by now, but as you said, it makes little to no sense to keep it if Bungie is going to be trying to reach out to mass audiences everywhere.

My concern is that it's too deeply integrated to our accounts. Like a mask that has melted onto your face.

Not necessarily. If you have been logging in using WLID you don't have to do anything just continue using the site the way you always have/ If you are joining the site from PSN then you can use your PSN account or whatever to login. You just have to select your console when you create your account. I don't see how that makes things harder.

I don't think they will add a login for PSN users until they announce their new game for the PS3. I think at that time though they will use multiple logins for people of different platforms.

Agreed, it would be easier for PSN users this way, and seeing as how Bungie is no longer linked with MS, it would make sense to move on.

I hope they do make that change.

Bungie has nothing to do with Microsoft any longer, so I expect to see Windows Live ID disappear from the Bungie.net sign-up process soon enough.

I don't know what the webteam is thinking of, but I would like to have a regular website log in (username and password) so both Playstation and Xbox users can be here. For stats, there could be some sort of sign in based on your WLID/PSN information.

Do people often buy the same game for two systems? That seems kind of... ridiculous. But I guess it could happen.

Hy CAVX, it's been a good little while; pleasure to see you again.

Man I hope not, WLID's are very annoying to use and a pain to modify if you don't know what you're doing.

Yeah, I think that's the way a lot of us are leaning. Dedicated Bungie.net login with the option to link our accounts to various other places. Namely PSN and XBL, but also potentially Facebook, Steam, etc. as John mentioned. They'd just have to keep the "WLID Sign in" button on their login page for a long time so that people can "convert" their account.
