"I will show you how a true Prussian officer fights!"

"And i will show you where the iron crosses grow..."

- "Cross of Iron"

As it is an already established fact due to the 7th terminal in Halo 3, Mendicant Bias has sent John through the portal intentionally claiming he is to be his example to balance out his betrayal of his former masters (the forerunner). Now that he has the tool to do so (John) what truly is an atonement for Mendicant Bias's slaughter of his masters by the flood. What will he put Chief through to finally think himself forgiven?

Now why would he need chief is it just a coincidence? probably not. mendicant bias has followed John throughout his journey through the rings and finally back to installation 07. Even in the terminal he states "You don't know the contortions I had to go through to follow you here, Reclaimer. I know what you're here for" Therefor he knows exactly what john has been doing through out the entire series.
I think that Johns ultimate destiny will be to put a stop to this ancient evil and sacrifice himself to defeat it. It may take 3 games but i believe this is the inevitable outcome of the entire series. It will all culminate in him saving the universe one last time before dieing.

I think this would truly be a great story to tell if they literally keep the only ally you have Mendicant bias. Make you feel alone in an entire new world and to not give you anything familiar. (this would still work with there idea of any new player can jump into the story) It would be like having Cortana following you around only a different physical AI that you can interact with directly. Mendicant bias should be your only friend in the next three games. Not to say you wont have allies to fight with or side with to defeat this evil, but the one you can trust only.

If mendicant bias truly thinks John can atone for his sins the path ahead as he states "Is fraught with peril" will surely be full of challenges the likes of which chief has never faced.

That is what i think of chiefs next journey and what it should entail.

Be mindful that this is my first post on the matter and i realize this is a very slim summary so go easy.

Nice theory, I also believe that MC is the key at the end..

The enemy of my enemy shall die next.

I know the voices in my head are not real, but they have some great ideas.

Brown chicken Brown cow!

Although I have only played one Marathon game (on xbox live arcade) your summary reminds me of the main protagonist in that and the A.I Durandal.

It is an interesting theory though :-)

on a side note, there needs to be a Marathon remake (of the game and the chocolate bars)

I'm a bit against a plain old heroic death, but I still stand with the idea of having John's ultimate fate take him away from us. I was hoping that maybe, he would be given some special purpose by the Forerunners, as a guardian of sorts. Never to be seen again after he walks into the light of ascension. Something like that.

We are all going to get banned aren't we?

only issue is that MB himself implied he died with "at the end of my life". So unless he found some way to piggy back on cortana he is dead.

plus it would be far more interesting just for chief to arrive and the forerunners/ chakas come to the conclusion that he is there due to MB.

"On the seventh day, god did not rest, but rather he created 64 player multiplayer!"

I don't think John should die...it's too cliche to me... Instead, how about John lives on, eternally? Preserved for thousands of years until he is needed again, like the Didact? The series can still end like normal...just, without any cliffhangers. Everything is done. All questions are answered. "Wake me, when you need me..." THAT is John.

Been saying that since the end of Cryptum.

I haven't actually thought of an ending like that because it would be to similar to Halo 3's ending. Now the more i think about it, it would make sense because he can be like a guardian of the universe.

Haha alright like i said in the OP i wouldn't mind him dieing either both i can see as heroic but the more you people make me think you change my mind constantly. I suppose him being the guardian of the universe is a bit to cliche and boring so yes death is a very viable option and one that i would support.

Agreed,lol.

In all fairness it is ether that or he dies, the angel thing is a cliche but it isn't too bad

Berzerk Gnome

Chief is basically going to be the pawn of MB the next three games he will be used to destroy the flood and hopefully he will have an honorable death. Truthfully i would rather play the 6th game and finish it in tears rather than another wake me when you need me line.

I wake up to find myself
After all these years
And where all the time has gone
Still seems so unclear

Personally, I don't think the Chief should die. That's why too "Call of Duty" for me. A cop-out. (Though, eternally frozen is as well.)

They should leave it open, but not in the same way Halo 3 ended. Hate to bring up Marathon, but that was ended well... You never find out what happens to your character. Durandal simply remembers him at the closure of the universe.

I'll admit, it's kind of cliche, but the Chief himself is cliche-incarnate. A lone, stoic, unstoppable killing machine rampaging around an alien world. Not to mention, Halo is such a cash-cow, they'd have no reason to end it.

I think 343 will have enough dignity to end the Chiefs story at least at the end of this next trilogy. If not i will be very surprised.

Well, the Chief kind of "is" Halo. He's what the story is based around. I assume the next trilogy will end it all together. But, being owned by MS means 343i will have to keep making Halo games. So, I wouldn't be surprised if they made a whole cast of spin-off games through-out the Covenant-Human war.
