*sigh*

It seems stupid to me, because I cannot think of a single conceivable way that humanity could go from the most intelligent and advanced space faring species in the galaxy to cave men isolated to a single planet. Now, are you going to actually explain this, like I've asked several times, or are you going to keep getting all over defensive about this?

Well, if you had bothered to actually read Crpytum, or as a last resort Halopedia, the answer would be clear. Humanity, with a San 'Shyuum alliance, fought a war against the Forerunners, while in secret also fought and successfully repelled the Flood. However, that battle exhausted their reserves of men, ships, and weapons and so humanity lost and as punishment, the Forerunners de-evolved humanity so they would not be a threat to their power. The San 'Shyuum were spared that fate, but quarantined.

Why did they 'de-evolve' humanity though? It doesn't make any sense to me that they would go through all of that (Which would be a real hassle, and take at least 1 generation, assuming they have some kind of amazing ability to directly alter genetics), instead of just killing them, or honestly, just putting them on an isolated planet. I mean, be honest, a couple of thousand people on an isolated planet with no technology? Yeah, they're not going to be a threat unless one of the technologies humanity had developed was the ability to turn sticks into nuclear reactors.

We fought Forerunners, we lost, they wanted to kill us all, but instead they decided to devolve us and split us into a dozen sub-species and leave us imprisoned on our planet.

Yes, but... Why?

We fought the Flood and beat them. Our cure, however involved us sacrificing 1/3 of our species to the Flood so that the Cure would kill them.We then expanded into Forerunner territory so that we could regain our lost strength, the Forerunners didn't like us, and the war started. The Prophets where allied with us and also got hit with the technological reversal stick.

I mean why did they go through the hassle of devolving us, when they could've just trapped us on an isolated planet and left us to our own devices...?

Humanity and Forerunners were created by the Precursors, we share similar DNA and multiple times in Cryptum we are called brethren. We both felt we deserved to uphold the Mantle. We conflicted with the Forerunner's ideals and the war gave them an excuse to lash out against us. Combine that with the fact we refused to tell them how to defeat the Flood should we return, it only gives them the excuse to "reduce the competition" so to speak.

They did it so we could never unite as a single force again. It was the Librarian's idea and probably saved us in the long run.

The Forerunners were also massive jerks.

Save up, more are on the way. There is Halo: Cryptum, Halo: Primordium (releases next year), and Halo: Glasslands (releases this October. Then we have Evolutions in case you missed that. And the Visual Guide, but skip that as it sucks massively.

See, this is where actually reading the book come sin handy. Within the Forerunner society are the Lifeworkers, the highest up is the Librarian. She has a lot of authority and if she broke off from Forerunner society, all medical services and anything related to the Lifeworkers duties would cease indefinitely. That and if the Forerunners kill us, then they would never find out the secret to killing the Flood. Of course, they never did.

You should've just got the big version of Evolutions, it already had Volumes I and II, but it doesn't have the two or so new pieces of fiction found in I and II.

You called the expanded universe stupid without even bothering do do some research. If you don't even understand what's stupid and still call it stupid, well I think we know who the real stupid person is.

I didn't say the entire extended universe was stupid, I'm saying it's reaching to stupid heights. So are you going to stop getting personally offended by my disapproval for that aspect of the extended universe and flaming me and explain how exactly this came to be?

You said it was stupid that humanity got blown back to the stone age, because "how do you explain that?"

Yet you clearly didn't bother doing research to figure it out: Forerunners forced it upon us after the war. A single trip to Halopedian or a simple question would have sufficed, but you bothered with neither and chose to remain ignorant on the topic while at the same time calling it stupid (which ignorance in itself)

They didn't kill us because they still had a duty to uphold: the Mantle of Life, which forbade complete genocide. They saw instead to punish us by destroying our civilization, our technology and culture and isolate us on Erde-Tyrenne (or Earth as we call it).

Better?

Because in doing so would be committing full genocide, and by removing one species from the galaxy it would be, essentially, lowering diversity. Both of those are in contradiction with the Mantle. The Forerunners instead used a loophole, they didn't go all the way.

Also, I think there is a measure of hubris and cruelty in it. The Forerunner could have let Humanity die on its feet with dignity, but instead they forced it to live in squalor and shame on its knees.

The Forerunners are utterly cruel, and I could infer more but this forum seems to wank the Forerunners and Covenant so I won't bother.

I pray for the safety of all the good people who come to the Universe Forum, but we can't expect the mods to do all the work. I have been baptized twice, once by water, once by the Internet. I am the right hand of the Halo canon and the instrument of it's vengeance. Halo may not be lost to us after all.

Why are you acting like such a dick? My decision to not read Cryptum wasn't because of a lack of money (>mfw), it's because I was tired of reading second rate scifi to keep up with the canon, when it was getting increasingly ridiculous.

Unclear, but since the Forerunners can imprint genetic codes and memories in anybody, it's likely something very trippy. We may find out in the next two books in the Forerunner trilogy.
