Seems like forerunners are like fallen angels. I mean there is a godlike "eternal one" character who is like a god. The forerunners are like fallen angels or also could be like the roman gods if the eternal one is like a titan. My comparison is probably useless, but that's how I interpret it. I wouldn't trust the forerunners based on how they created pretty faulty AI.

The comparison I tend think more of is that the Prisoner ("eternal one") is like Lucifer, who fought a war against the other Angels (Precursors) and God (the universe itself, which is believed to be alive in its own right) with the Prisoner's creations being the Flood (Demons), and lost, and was imprisoned for all eternity by the others while the rest lived in paradise.

Unclear, but since the Forerunners can imprint genetic codes and memories in anybody, it's likely something very trippy. We may find out in the next two books in the Forerunner trilogy.

I still don't understand the point of 'devolving' (The entire concept of 'devolution' is kind of ridiculous, to me) humanity when they could have just stuck us on an isolated planet to rot.

Ok, so, running along with that, how did they 'devolve' us?

The precise method is not detailed, but Bornstellar (The novels point of view character) hypothesised that it involved taking Human children (Stage of development not mentioned) and genetically altering them with atavistic traits until they essentially became animals; primitive apes again.

That's essentially what they did. It's like the Tower of Babel, everyone was unified and shared a goal, build a huge tower in the sky to reach heaven. God said "If they can do it, then nothing can stop them," and so he made everyone speak different languages to confuse them. Likewise, the Forerunners screwed us up so much, it's unlikely we'd be able to do much.

I lol'd at the absurd miscommunication that occurs whenever dibbs post something. Perhaps his brain is so highly evolved that he can no longer clearly communicate with lesser life forms, even among his own species.

Humanity and Forerunners were created by the Precursors, we share similar DNA and multiple times in Cryptum we are called brethren. We both felt we deserved to uphold the Mantle. We conflicted with the Forerunner's ideals and the war gave them an excuse to lash out against us. Combine that with the fact we refused to tell them how to defeat the Flood should we return, it only gives them the excuse to "reduce the competition" so to speak.

So why didn't they just kill us? Christ, this whole thing absolutely reeks of fanfiction.

How about you stop being a cheap bastard and just buy the damn book before making ridiculous opinions on material you haven't read.

and why are you guys trying to explain it to him? Let him stay ignorant about it.

Because part of the point of this forum is to answer questions for the uninformed, no matter in what manner the questions are presented (in this case, shear ignorance).

Yes he was wrong in not reading the books then -blam!- ing about it, but that doesn't mean we can't try and explain it.
That's a good attitude to keep in the back of your mind but different circumstances warrant different reactions. You can get an explanation, a fairly good one in fact, from some users on this forum. However, media can't be interpreted by a single person. Good stories don't mince words and all of the events happen for a purpose. It's very easy to say the Forerunner devolved humanity and very easy to respond (without having read the story) that "that's stupid". If you read the book, however, you could see the how and the why and make a better judgement about that plot element.

What Seggi was doing was taking interpretations he saw on the forums and making value judgement about the story as a whole based on them. That's the wrong way to go about it and no amount of explanation on these forums will change that.

Grey and Cobra, however, are wrong in letting the direction this forum is heading to degrade the quality of their own posts. Feel free to take a hostile attitude towards those who deserve it guys but realize very few actually do. Assuming everyone else is ignorant from the start and then posting based on that premise is doing just as much damage as the factually incorrect posts.

Like I said, even when they beat us badly, we refused to tell them how to stop the Flood and remained defiant to the end bringing a harsher punishment. The San 'Shyuum were much more humble and were granted a system to remain in with all their space-faring technology

Considering we've only got one book and not a lot of extra background information to work on, I suppose, but it's very high quality fan fiction.

How do you continue to criticize Cryptum without reading it? Read it and then call it fanfiction if you don't like it. Don't say it sounds like fanfiction based on us trying to help you understand it because you refuse to read it.

I didn't call you mean because i quite honestly don't care the attitude you choose to take. I was saying that your posts, with their desire to be contentious in every respect, are just as detrimental as the posts you are attacking. I'm doing this because I assume you actually care about the state of this forum and are trying to make it better (albeit with the wrong methods). If you're being a dick just to be a dick, then we have a problem.

Feel free to address the points I make directly though instead of the roundabout way you previously chose to do (a poor attempt at sarcasm).

So it's perfectly okay to make ignorant statements and admitting there ignorant because you don't want to do research, but calling that out is bad? You aren't accomplishing anythign by saying I'm being negative. Used to be order here, used to be a place where intelligent conversations could be had, but now people have seemed to lost the ability to research, make the right topics, and spell because "it r teh internetz!".

I wake up to find myself
After all these years
And where all the time has gone
Still seems so unclear

I believe dibbs is trying to say that taking a "everyone is dumb" approach to answering questions isn't going to actually get your point across. It's just going to make them mad. If you push, they'll push back to spite you. Regardless of your intentions.

However, being extra patient with idiots isn't exactly the best way to answer a question either. Just tell them to google it themselves so they can either get context or they can find a direct answer themselves.

I never learned anything with someone just "telling" me. They always made me do it myself.

That's why he told you to read the book, so he wouldn't have to hold your hand and explain it all to you when the book does that itself.

Deevolution is seen as their ultimate form of punishment, and stops the races they defeat from rising up against them again and maintaining their peace in the galaxy.

Completely off topic: Cobra if you keep fighting these ridiculous fights against ridiculous people you're going to get burnt out real fast.
