"I'm afraid of the man I'll become if I lay my life down for the people I don't even care for"

I'm almost done cryptum and it states that there are 12 Halos, but when Halo 1 roles around there seems to be only 7 left.

Should I read on or is the explanation in the book.

No spoilers please :)

I was not aware of this...
could it possibly include destroyed and replacement Halos?

It just said during the next (forgot how many thousands of) years 12 installations were made, but one went missing and it's ancilla.

But on the Ark in Halo 3 the diagrams only show 7 installations (probably because of Bungies lucky number)

The game and the books are different things. In the book marines get dead with only one plasma pistol shot.

If i remeber correctly when mendicant bias shows up at the foreruner capital he attempts to fire them and the forerunner home fleet destroys alot of them leaving 7

I think it includes rings that were destroyed/fired and thus reconstructed (Halo CE, Halo 3, etc)

That's a stupid example. It's gameplay, it wouldn't be so fun if your allies died in one shot, in the books it makes more sense to make them appear weaker (though I'm pretty sure they could still survive a PP shot).

The books and the games are from the same storyline...

"There is no time for peace. No respite. No forgiveness. There is only WAR!"

well couldn't onyx have been another installation? does it specifically say somewhere that installations have to be rings? wasn't the ark installation 00?

The book said there were 11 Halo Rings (later 12 when Mendicant Bias showed up) around the Forerunner Capital.

jesus youre stupid. the books are canon, just as the games are, so therefore major details like the actual amount of halo rings matter. allies being killed in a certain amount of bullets is down to gameplay reasons, obviously.

Oh man, if only we had two books left to explain what happened to the other Halos!

to me, that i like to fight directly and with hard enemies, it matters. I would like a game that I would get shot dead with one a bullet, with no campers in the multi-player on-line. They story is the most important to me, I really Halo 2, and how you would get killed with only a shot in Legendary.

So you want the whole game to be like the SWAT gametype, or are you visioning some kind of Matrix-like Halo where you can dodge bullets? I wouldn't want to play a game where I die every 10 seconds. And you want that to somehow magically be free of camping? If you die of being hit by one single shot of course people are gonna adapt to that, camping is a strategy - it can't be ridden of.

Ok, your idea of what "one shot" is seems to be kinda freely interpreted.

Note to OP: Finish reading the book before reading this explanation as it contains spoilers.

Correct. There were 12 Halos there and MB had control of 5 of them. The rest of them tried to escape through the portal. One made it through barely and was being repaired at The Ark and the other was destroyed inside of it as it collapsed. Two others that we know of were destroyed by Forerunner ships before making it into the portal.

I'm guessing that what happens with the remaining rings will be discussed in the next two books.

The seven rings that we know about from the games were being built at The Ark at the end of Cryptum (with one of them being the one that escaped and is being repaired).

This is all from memory so I may have made a mistake or two in that but that's at least the main points of it.
