It roughly translate to something like, "With courage to the stars"

I think the Marathon lead is definitely gold, as is the idea of civilization development and then space exploration.

And to be honest, the dev tool we see them using to generate terrain seems to hint to me that worlds may be randomly generated. If they wanted something specific out of a landmark, why generate it like that instead of modelling more directly? Why have that technology that can so quickly generate large, high detail terrain with a brush-like feature like that unless you wanted the process to be extremely fast or simple?

That got my attention, that's exactly the kind of tool a dev would develop for random generation. Perhaps players will even get access to similar tools in an alternate gameplay mode, like today's Forge.

One big problem with randomly generated worlds is AI and pathfinding. If they have well-tweaked and predefined terrain pieces which are just scattered randomly then the AI could have pathfinding nodes for each terrain brush. Then the only problem is how the AI would navigate between these terrain brushes, or landmarks.

Remember the 'navigation between landmarks' slide?

To be honest, those motion capture people were more interesting.

Especially one being the voice actress of Cortana.

That excited me too.... until I realized it was probably mo-cap footage from Reach. :-(

It looks like a hint towards the dead orbit symbol you see on some of their shirts.

Seven Seraphs in PS

Poor, but acceptable.

You mean the Bubble Bubble Coalition and the 3 Tally Dorito Alliance? Yeah, I think the shirts definitely mean something.

Information here (below the press release).

Bungie Aerospace web pages have been tagged with the (presumed) motto: "PER AUDACIA AD ASTRA," which translates from Latin to English as "Boldly to the Stars" (or, more literally, "Through Boldness to the Stars," though this makes little sense).

This motto is a play on the famous quote used by Air Forces and space programs around the world, "Per Ardua Ad Astra," which translates from Latin to English as "Through Adversity to the Stars."

I think it actually hints to an MMO. In worlds as big as those in World of Warcraft, Everquest, and the like, you can't go in and craft every mountain perfectly and make sure every pile of rocks is beautifully detailed down to the last pebble.

You have to have some areas generated for you or we wouldn't see a game til 2015! This is the case with the ones created in their own classified program that I've spoken a lot about, starts with a G, sounds like Gromdok, but I can't remember the name.

If you honestly don't know its the codename and rumored real name of Bungie's new IP (game) that has been speculated so far to be related in someway to the following "factions":

The 3 Tally Dorito Alliance

The Moon in Sun in Eyeball Collective

The Bubble Bubble Coalition

The Fire Water Cactus Alliance

Seven Seraph

Destiny Trust

All of these were seen on Bungie employee's shirts (aside from Destiny Trust but its the logo of the game). Also, we think Bungie is going to be using their new super secret program called.... uh... -blam!- i keep forgetting the name of it but it starts with a G, to make terrain and other elements of the game.

Search this thread for more speculation and clues found by the community so far.

I wanted to post this yesterday after viewing the ViDoc but was a lazy bum and didn't, so instead I'm posting it today.

Grognok Is An Editor, Obviously

When I first seen the footage of them placing the mountains, I originally thought it was ZBrush because of the similar UI, and didn't take a second glance (a fail on my part).

However, after looking through the picture album linked in this thread, this image, from the same footage of them placing the mountains, caught my attention. Based on this image, and the relevant copyright claim, we can rightly assume the obvious here and say that Grognok (who's name in the image was pointed out by Apocalype X) is simply Bungie's proprietary editor for their proprietary engine (similar to how UnrealED is the editor for the Unreal Engine, for those who don't know what I'm talking about).

Note: I don't know if we already came to this conclusion, but if so, then sorry. But if not, then happy birthday. Happy Grunt Birthday.

No Randomly Generated Terrain

Somewhere in this thread (and I'm too lazy to look it up) someone suggested that the footage showing the placing of the mountains could mean randomly generated terrain. I highly doubt this for a few reasons.

1. This is a terrain editor within a game editor. It's simply to assist the production of making terrain instead of modeling it by hand in Max.

2. The mountains are pre-modeled brushes (or something similar) being placed. Randomly generated means randomly generated.

Already (Somewhat) Confirmed Not An MMO

Its good to know that we have an even more precise heading on the genre of Destiny. Plus, I think that if this faction thing is true (look for any post with a list including the 3 tally dorito alliance or the bubble bubble coalition in this thread for info on that), then an MMO would have been too monotonous a setting for a faction system like that. It's been way over done. But if it's in an FPS, I could see that.

Maybe you pick your faction at the start of the game and its just really hard to change over to one so people aren't constantly changing (all out of ass speculation).

That concept art is old. I saw it back before Reachs release. Maybe even ODSTs.

We know but we think they've been working on Destiny since before ODST so maybe this concept art was leaked and the general public, not knowing about Destiny, thought it was Reach stuffs.

Lol, so it's Fallout? :P

Even with them Denying it being an MMO I'm still leaning towards it.

I am as crazy as David Aldridge though, so it's all good.
