I wanted to post this yesterday after viewing the ViDoc but was a lazy bum and didn't, so instead I'm posting it today.
Grognok Is An Editor, Obviously
When I first seen the footage of them placing the mountains, I originally thought it was ZBrush because of the similar UI, and didn't take a second glance (a fail on my part).
However, after looking through the picture album linked in this thread, this image, from the same footage of them placing the mountains, caught my attention. Based on this image, and the relevant copyright claim, we can rightly assume the obvious here and say that Grognok (who's name in the image was pointed out by Apocalype X) is simply Bungie's proprietary editor for their proprietary engine (similar to how UnrealED is the editor for the Unreal Engine, for those who don't know what I'm talking about).
Note: I don't know if we already came to this conclusion, but if so, then sorry. But if not, then happy birthday. Happy Grunt Birthday.
No Randomly Generated Terrain
Somewhere in this thread (and I'm too lazy to look it up) someone suggested that the footage showing the placing of the mountains could mean randomly generated terrain. I highly doubt this for a few reasons.
1. This is a terrain editor within a game editor. It's simply to assist the production of making terrain instead of modeling it by hand in Max.
2. The mountains are pre-modeled brushes (or something similar) being placed. Randomly generated means randomly generated.
Already (Somewhat) Confirmed Not An MMO
I'm still lazy, so here's a link: http://www.warpzoned.com/?p=3936
