They didn't say "This game will be bigger than Halo." They said, "How can a game be bigger than Halo?" followed by, "We'll see." So basically they want to say Halo was a big risk that payed off, and thats what they are hoping for with the new franchise.
However the implication of those paired statements is that this might be bigger than Halo, a positive suggstion without qualification leaving only that suggestion despite the question. Even if it's not stated explicitly, the implicit meaning is clearly there for all to see, setting the stage for this supposedly great new territory much in the same way that early PR for Halo Reach (see that whole "definitive Halo" business again) set the stage for that game's gross disappointment.
I guess I just have a pessimistic view of Bungie's "big talk." As I more or less stated above, it wouldn't be the first time that one of their projects flopped despite the grand designs trumped up to us if Tiger turns out to be another Reach (big talk hiding a defective game), or even just another ODST on a smaller scale of disappointment (even as "just an expansion".)
You know what I can't stand? People who try to state there opinion as FACT. Reach was not broken or defective, it was a damn good game. If Reach had been the first halo to ever release, and there was no Halo:CE-3 then you would love Reach. You may not like some of the things they added, just like I don't(Specifically Armor Lock), but that does not mean the game doesn't function the way it is supposed to. You act like your OPINION carries over to everybody. Just because Reach and ODST were a disappointment to you, does not mean they were a disappointment all together. No, the lore doesn't match up with the BOOKS. Halo started as a game, and when Bungie says that the games override the books as far as cannon goes, then games > books. Reach was not a disappointment, Reach is an amazing game, and Bungie is an amazing developer.
And on topic, this ViDoc really did hit close to home. I started with CE as a kid and have been around since. Halo 2 was my personal favorite as far as multiplayer goes. To hear them talk about how it nearly got the shaft, was kinda bone-chilling to me. I still to this day have 16-man LAN parties with Halo 2. H2's big maps were for the win.
