I just finished watching O Brave New World. Gosh, that was great. Before it started, I thought it was going to be Halo-centered. I don't know why, but this impression was strong in my head. Then it finally did start, and Halo didn't even show up in the first what seemed like twenty minutes.

I've always seemed to connect Bungie intrinsically with Halo. I have played their past titles, and they were cool, but I've always thought Halo was where it all truly came together into a cohesive whole. This ViDoc has made me see otherwise.

It made me see that ideas aren't always reality, and Bungie used to be reckless and too ambitious with Halo. That definitely made me appreciate the level of spit polish Reach got.

But the best thing the video did was ease my fears about Bungie leaving Halo forever. The intro to the video made me see once again that Oni, Myth, Marathon, etc, are just as much Bungie's babies as Halo, and they moved past all of them to work on Halo ten years ago, so it's only appropriate they do so with Halo too.

I've also gotten a good idea, I think, with what they want to do with their new IP. I kept noticing how, when talking about Combat Evolved, Bungie people kept saying how they wanted to create this epic, open world. They kept saying how the technology constricted them to a linear, fixed experience. Even though it turned out great, it wasn't what they originally wanted. I also remember somebody from Bungie last year talking about how it's a shame that they spend so much time of these worlds only for gamers to spend a few hours in them (while hinting at the new IP).

All that said, I hope that this new IP is that intention given form. I'm not saying genre here - just level design. I'm not only fascinated with how Bungie would probably do open-world, I'm also now ready for that new world. This ViDoc has really put it into perspective - this is just the next step in the plan, not the end of Bungie in a way.

So this is the best way to go dark before the big reveal, Bungie. This ViDoc puts it all into perspective - it's Bungie-centric, not Halo-centric, and that's how it should be. It makes your leaving Halo much easier, and it excites for what you're doing next. So congratulations on a successful ten years, thank you for the years, and I look forward to many more. See you starside, Bungie. ;)
