You can see the shadows for the poles on the snow/sand

The engine is probably the Reach engine. The talk was given after Halo 3 ODST was out, so they were probably working on the Reach engine at the time. My guess is the new IP will be using a new version of the Reach engine.

I doubt that the new IP will use the Reach Engine, since it was optimized for Halo on an Xbox. Bungie is developing across multiplatforms now. That means they need a new graphics and mechanics engine to handle all the new tools they would have to develop for compatibilities across consoles and pc's/smartphones and the such. As well, I believe the engine they created may fall under rights by Microsoft, since it was a tool they couldn't have been able to make without IP funding by microsoft. Sooooo, not the reach engine. Plus these graphics look too good to be a Reach engine. Just from the short snips of what we saw, I can tell you this i much more advanced. Close to a Dice Frostbite2 engine or even better.

I don't know if you're right, but what we see was pre-alpha code (Frostbite 2 engine like is just hypothesis) There's 2 possible option :

1) It's Reach engine modified from the lybrary (DX9-DX10 or 11) like any other one engine, they re-write many thing like new Hi'res texture, new animation system (Facecap as we can see in the Vidoc) Day-Night-Weather Cycle etc...

2) It's a brand new engine, writing from scratch, not from Halo Reach Base, but something on what Jones and ODST team is working on since 2008.

I don't know but i'll try to figure how Bungie is organized for this new i.p

Back in 2007 two team began to work on two distinct project ODST and Reach. ODST team push the old engine to it's max, while Reach team re-write it and built Reach engine, but for the new game it was ODST team wich work on it (i suppose the're wasn't a third team at this time) there was a pre-prod for some concept, ideas and game-mechanics.

After the release of Halo:ODST in September 2009 they divided ODST dev in two team, one was composed of creative people for elaborate the Universe and the rest was composed of tech team supposed to create the engine to run the game. After September 14th 2010 Reach Team which was the most important of the studio join the "Destiny" project and form only one core team for it, while at the same time Bungie make a division dedicated to mobile game(they're employing people too) Bungie Aerospace.

This and the quote from Joe Staten at GDC 2010:
Said by: Joe Staten
"Wouldn't it be great if we could make a world that was always there for you? Wow. That would be great."

Makes me wonder if Bungie is making a cross-platform-device game? Play on any console, computer, or mobile device any time you want. That would be amazing.

I've just had another brain wave so I'll post it here due to the fact that the rest of my ideas are here.

Now as I previously stated there are in theory going to be 4 factions Seven Seraphs, New Monarchy, Osiris, and Dead Orbit with the FWC(future war council) as some sort of governing body.

Now we know bungie loves the number 7 and I'm going to go out on a whim and suggest that the FWC will have 7 members who are from the bungie community and will act as a sort of bridge between bungie and the players. Now as we know 7 lucky members of the community were each given a golden ticket (you can see one the tickets here) so just as a guess these 7 people may perhaps become members of the FWC

Hmm interesting Idea... Or they become the Seven Seraphs but again that's simply speculation at this point. We probably won't find anything out for a year from now.

That's an Idea I hadn't given that any thought.I do agree that it's all speculation at the moment but it's fun none the less

For those that are interested I took the time to recreate the symbols seen on the t-shirts. You can find then in the link below. Note that due to lack of detailed images they may be off (Dead Orbit is under this category)

Why thank you, I take pride in making things as perfect as they can be, or that could just be OCD talking xD
If anyone would like a high res version of any symbol I can make them.

LOWER NEBULA

Put this image on a black background, you will see the fine print.

The image is the BG on bungie.net

Relevant because its poof that the new pattern is a nebula:

(Code from Bungie.net):

$(document).ready(function() {
//fixes IE bug: the <link /> gets in way of css selector for bottom nebula bg

$('body > div').eq(0).css('background','url(/images/dar k/lower_neb.png) no-repeat center bottom fixed');

Blurry Pic of stuff Bungie doesn't want us to see yet #1

At that point in the ViDoc they were talking about handing Halo over... so I thought this was maybe blurry stuff of Halo 4?

I thought the same why blur out the speakers face and also i thought the top right overexposed pic looks like there is a plasma rifle in it :/

I would have to disagree with it being Halo 4. I feel that due to the fact bungie are now taking no part in making of halo I believe that microsoft will not allow them to see anything from halo 4. I personally feel that due to there being pictures of 4 very different environments it supports the idea of 4 factions. However I acknowledge that it may be wishful thinking :D

I completely agree the link is great.I feel that we have smoothed our theory out a bit now though Id like to see what other people think.I mean it would be nice to have a broader view and the only way to do that is if people throw their ideas in.

No.

I don't think it will be an MMO, but I do believe that it will be open world.

In fact, I think it may be open MULTIPLE world.

[link to power point]

As you can see here in this barely post-odst engine publication, there are subjects touched on that even the layman can see are much more advanced than those in the Reach engine. The kicker here is that the slides are OLDER than Reach. I think they've been working on this for WAY longer than they let on. On it, you see the landscape that was shown in the latest vidoc, and a whole section about atmospheric scattering. A feature that's 100% unnecessary unless you're gonna see the atmosphere from the outside. That's what lead me to believe that this could just be the first interplanetary open world campaign/ multiplayer experience in gaming.

I know there are some things I say here that have already been touched on in the thread... cba to write it all again.

I think this could even mark the next generation of console hardware too.

http://i1113.photobucket.com/albums/k504/SwimMaster101/a.png I don't ever recall a regular 360 running with that much detail on screen at once, I mean look at the honeycomb pattern on that dome! they either have some SERIOUS optimization magic going on (not out of the question) Or they made something not that special look really good (not that out of the question) or this is meant for something more powerful than a 360 or a ps3 (slightly out of the question, but not 100%. It's definitely got it's foot in the doorway)

Edit: actually NVM, upon further inspection these visuals are perfectly achievable on current console hardware. Damn :( and YEAH :) at the same time.

So I decided to go check something mainly when bungie broke from away microsoft. So quick check on the internet to remind myself of when It happened,October 1, 2007 now bungie left so they could have creative freedom and create what they wanted to. Now that slide show was released in 2009 so in theory we can assume that bungie started work on the engine and the game as soon as the split was done so at the moment the game has been in production for about 4 years(give or take a few months).
Now assuming that the game is announced next year then released in 2013 that is 6 years of development time which is well a long time however we can assume that the concept was born before the split.

Oh and great find on the atmosphere scattering perhaps there will be space to ground battles. It's an exciting prospect

Imo, the ODST ad poster / *destiny* symbol is a stretch. That could be anything. I hope it's legit though.

If it is, there's a chance they could have dropped some hints in Reach too.

Let the hunt begin.

A lot of good detective work is being done, I have a feeling we may be rewarded soon for our efforts but that's my wishful thinking.

I uploaded a Higher Res desert pic from the video if people are interested. Also I'm thinking of making a wallpaper using it as the backdrop, anyone interested in that idea?

Finding this stuff and coming up with theories is it's own reward in my eyes.(I do admit it would be cool though)

The wallpaper idea is cool I'd use it. I've been thinking and the style of the game from that one screen is pretty distinct in fact I cant really think of any games to compare it to

And it has. If it had the standard Halo dev cycle it probably would have come out around the time Halo: Reach did. Maybe a few months after.
