I'm pretty confident that pre-production on Tiger has been underway since ODST shipped. And the actual production started about a year ago, probably around the time the beta for Reach wrapped up.

This means that, if Bungie isn't going to wrap up production and have the game go gold until 2013, you're talking about the largest dev cycle they have ever passed through. Not 3D Realms/Silicon Knights dev cycles, but more like a Valve cycle.

This game is going to be what they have wanted to make ever since Halo 1.

I think that this is pointing more towards mmo. The job is an "economy designer" which to me implies designing an entire in game economy like that found in an mmo. Plus Bungie has confirmed that it is an action mmo. (article on it here)

Just to add my speculation, I think it will be a cross platform mmo between the 360 and PS3 which would be ridiculously ambitious and that is what Bungie keeps saying is how ambitious their next project is.

A true MMO on a console, that sounds crazy.

  • 08.07.2011 9:51 AM PDT

I don't think it will be a true mmo it will likely be a lighter mmo focused more on action than the mmo side of things. But with Bungie at the helm they may do something incredibly unique.

No.

That doesn't sound quite like an MMO to me...

Mostly baseless speculation. From the quotes they were using, I'm getting the idea that it could be a game that maintains it's state in a "cloud" system so you can continue progress across platforms...

If it IS an MMO, this could be interesting, because it could mean cross platform multiplayer...

I know what it is.

It is pretty obvious when you think about it. It is going to be a non-traditional MMO, and Bungie will NOT call it an MMO. They will call it something else.

From some of the screens in the PP presentation you can clearly understand that the game will have "time of day" that will actually be time of day, not just a changing sky box. The planet you are on will actually be spinning and the sun will not be the one that moves.

Bungie is trying to not do "photo-realism" but do actual realism. If you leave the planet you can see the atmosphere from above just like a real game. That is obviously where they are heading. They are trying to make a game that feels real.

That's why they are working on the graphics so much and are hiring an "Economy Designer". They don't want to make a photo-realistic game like say, Mass Effect 3, where everything looks real but it isn't. EVERYTHING will be real and authentic.

They want to make the economy to feel real as well, which means they want you to think the world is completely real. I could bet my ass that the game world will have a rich history that seems very realistic.

That's why they will be going for an MMO, to have not just the world be real, but the people in it too. They will probably call their genre a FRG (Fully Realistic Game) or something like that.

Their objective is to make an actual living real world inside the console/computer. People will probably get jobs assigned to them, and people will be able to marry and buy a house. And people will be able to die.

And when you die you start over again.

How they are going to put the "Action Adventure" title into this game I don't know. But this is what I think their vision was when they began to create this game. Realism.

DCUO I don't know how successful but it worked from what I have been told. I personally am hoping to not get an MMO because I fear the subscription fee

Hmm interesting concept, I like it. Though I doubt heavily death is permanent. In a video game that kind of thing never works out well for games (to my knowledge). Other then that I agree entirely with your idea.

To Bungie

Before Halo Reach- <3 keep this up, love you lots

After Halo Reach- Wow wtf is this -blam!-? Die in a hole. I don't even know why they called Reach, Halo. It isn't even Halo.

so 6 as we 5 ain't no 4. but the 3 of us are 2 only 1s :)

new theory:

dont think im tripping, just give it a chance.

look at the pictures we were able to see clearly. mountains, the sun rising and ... A FREAKING WINDMILL. (even with a wired connection.)

and bungie is hiring an economy artist...

maybe this game is (also?) about powering citys and alike. using what that planet has in offer. water, wind, sun and stuff like that.
and if u think about it combat-wise that would mean that those different factions could harass each other by destroying the opponents power supply.

just imagine an MMOFPS (yea i try to believe those rumors) with like 5 different factions each with their own city which gets basically built by us and powered by us. the factions fighting over a specific mountain region because of the heavy wind going through there or a river to power a watermill like thing.

  • 08.08.2011 12:07 AM PDT

iROACH interesting theory. I think it would be fun to use a power source or fight over it. Think of what that could mean...

-Constant conflict among enemy players/factions
-Possible tapping into enemy sources to restore power to your equipment.
-Starting new sources of power to allow for the development of a settlement or base of operations.

thats exactly what i was thinking!

that would also go hand in hand with that "evolving/never ending" story that is getting rumored

Yea but if you check out Bungie's 20 year aniversary ViDoc you'll hear them say how Halo:Reach is what they've wanted to make since Halo: CE. By the way awesome theory iROACH!!

I was going to make a comment on how Grognok is the Unreal Engine of Bungie. That just makes it more official.

I guess since they are independent from Microsoft, they can license the engine out to other developers (specifically ones under the Activision umbrella, and maybe the guys over at 343).

One cone to splatter em all!!

Hey Guys been reading this thread for a few days and something struck me. It i'snt really a clue yet but something bugs me about this.

I wanted to change my avatar just now and as i switched from page 2 > 3 whil it loaded a image was shown to me that looked really familiar. So I made A screenshot. I will upload it when I get to it (Currently working on some graphic drivers for ubuntu and can't get my mind of it :P).

So my next question: Everybody who has a picture of the starmap please upload. If somebody has a One of seven ticket PLEASE copy the map displayed on the back and upload it. Watch out for your code we don't want you exposing yourself now do we.

If we have all the pieces we could fit it together and look it it up maybe related to real star system or something. What is it was our new real time sandbox :S.

P.S. Found another piece just now. I Guess we should bee scorching throught this site looking for load displays or something. I know this is A predestined breadtrail butt hell bungie Im gonna follow it see you on 7/7/2012 keep the slingshot ready :P.

*clue sound rings * This seem interesting "Pres A to further inestigate" :P
