Subject: New Bungie project vs. Halo 4

Seems like a lot of people have high hopes for 343 industries. I like Frankie too, but Im afraid one man wont cut it. Do you guys actually know how many -original- bungie employees work at 343? Do you know the structure that builds the company and how much it is affected by Microsoft? Have you played a game published by 343?

Any way you choose to look at it, 343 isnt, and will never be like Bungie.

They are not trying to be like bungie they're taking what bungie has started and are adding more. Bungie left the H3 ending for a perfect place to start so that's what they're doing.

Does not compute. You are asking us if we have ever played a 343 game while making your own wild assumptions of 343i.

343i has already greatly expanded the Haloverse with a huge number of brilliant books and literature, and has gotten out Halo:CE remake, which I know i'd rather play then Halo:reach. That doesn't seem to be enough, does it?

Fallout has been a very successful game and it has been through more than one company and they've each added some thing different to the game and story and just because halo is being switched creators doesn't mean it couldn't still be great as fallout was.

The only reason why Fallout 3 was even regarded as good is because how toned down it was as an actual RPG, if it was like Interplay's, and Black Isle's no one would play it because it would be simply out of the ordinary in comparison to most games. I mean everything in Fallout 3 really didn't make sense, up to the environment, characters, and story. New Vegas brought us back.

Notice i didnt say Fallout 3 once all i said was fallout and i dont see how i was talking about a particular one just stating that whether or not it does make sense and F3 made enough sense in itself to be played that it still was rather good after it had gone through dif companies.

Halo 4 will be better. Bungie can't do anything other than Halo and they are fools for leaving.

You're an idiot

He is free to an opinion and atleast his is decent.

I am going to laugh when bungie makes an RTS game or anything other than a FPS and all the "bungie fans" start raging because they haven't played any other type of game.

So in a sense bungie will always be screwed to cater to children.

I'm honestly hoping for a single-player RPG. Seeing how amazing Halo's story/backstory both were/are, I'd love to see what the guys at Bungie can do with an RPG universe.

OT: I'll play them both.

A bungie RPG would be amazing because like you said their stories are very well thought out and in depth.

Yeah, there's also rumors that they could be making a MMO of some kind. Which is also fully supported in their new vidoc, saying that their new universe, in the end, would "belong to the fans more than to us (Bungie) ourselves."

  • 08.04.2011 6:10 PM PDT

Maybe they've made a game with an unending forge type concept to it.

I don't really like MMO's. Ironic because I played World of Warcraft for like 5 years.

I'm with Bungie's new project, as long as it's not a shooter. If it is screw it, I ain't buying either of them.

um because Frankie is not dumb whatsoever and HATES BS.

there are about 4-5, not to mention the guy that made -blam!- zombies, and some campaign designers for metroid. thats all we really know now.

Yes, and mirosoft knows if they F up too bad then they will lose money

The defiant map pack was made by 343 and it had some of the better if not best reach maps.

Oh wow as if halo 3 and reach were the BEST HALO GAMES EVER!!!

Add some guys from Pandemic who made Battlefront series for Star Wars.

David Dunn, I don't think that Halo is going to downhill, 343i have great community, lots of well-known devs such as pandemic, EA, some Bungie ex employee such as Frankie. In my opinion, Halo is in great hands of 343i.

Don't judge its cover without reading, buddy.

Bungie partners with Activi$ion...

"Betrayal!"

I didn't get the liberty of seeing Halo from the beginning (kinda started at Halo 2, officially started at Halo 3) so I'm really excited about being there for this new series. However, I'll always be a Halo fan and I believe that the richness of its universe just can't fade away. So, I'm sticking with Halo until Microsoft milks the very last drop of suculent titjuice from it.

This, I did not know.

I'm actually impressed with 343's lineup. I was indifferent to it, but now I think it's got me.

  • 08.04.2011 6:50 PM PDT

I think both are going to succeed. Halo 4 will be headed by Frankie, and a small team that originally belonged to bungie to watch over these kind of things. And if people remembered bungie is in partnership with activision who will make sure bungie will make a good game and if they don't, Activision will sue them and destroy them like everyone else they are suing.

Your one stop shop for all of 343's fabulous errors and ridiculous notions in the Halo lore.

Can someone tell me what this has to do with the "discussion of all elements of the storyline, backstory, plotline, and canon elements of all Bungie games, including Halo, Marathon, Oni, Myth, and others."

I'm curious.

Sure.

"Bungie's new Project.."
That's pretty much it.
It's not much, I suppose, but hey. You asked for an answer.

I suppose that's fair, but I'm still not convinced this is the correct place to have this discussion. We know nothing about Bungie's project and Halo 4 talk isn't appropriate, even in terms of story, on the Universe Forum. Trust me on that.

I'm excited more for the new project of Bungie's as of right now. I've loved all their games they've made so far and I'm fairly sure I'll love this, too. I like to play all types of games and am very open to any game someone wants me to try out.

What I think is silly is people fighting on whether or not it'll be good as if it'll be as popular as Halo. That, of course, is not the case. Halo fans will most likely freak out over what it is. Most of the, for lack of a better word, idiots will come back screaming that it's not an FPS while others who do like it for what it is will appreciate it. It also doesn't depend on Halo fans liking it. If this game is as fresh as they claim it to be, it will bring on a whole new fan base. The fan base for Myth didn't like Halo: Combat Evolved as much as Myth, but Halo took off with its own fan base. It will most likely happen with this game as well.

In the end, this game will/will not earn its right as its own game. When you buy this game, don't think of it as being "That One Game That Was Made by the Same People That Made Halo.". You have to think of it as a completely separate game. I'm just going to pretend it's made by some unknown developer.

Don't ook at it just as Bungie employees.

Look at it as:

Bungie Employees who worked on Halo

People who worked on Assasin's Creed

Gears of War

Metal Gear Solid

Fallout 3

N@zi Zombies

And I even heard some Mass Effect guys were in there.

Including Legendary sci-fi writers writing books and, who knows, maybe the games even. Karen Traviss is writing Gears 3, so its a possibility.

They have a truly terrific team compiled, some of the best in the buisness. THATS why we have high hopes.

  • 08.04.2011 8:05 PM PDT

I'm hyped for H4 because they have a lot of former Bungie employees over at 343i so I'm sure they will deliver for us.

Going to be hard splitting my playtime with multiple games though.

Can I split my excitement equally between all titles? Just a thought. Picking favorites is overrated.
