I understand this is all speculation, but i can't help feeling like this is just a little more confirmed after today:

http://www.kotaku.com.au/2011/02/breaking-bungies-destiny-is-a n-fps-mmo-claims-fired-contractor/

For those that remember, earlier this year a group of supposedly wrongfully fired contractors claimed that bungie's new project would be called "Destiny" and that the working title was "Tiger". Sure enough, in the vidoc today Jason Jones referred to something (presumably their project) as Tiger. I'm not meaning to say this is true, especially since Bungie released this statement after the claims and i trust their word more than an anonymous source. However, it is odd that one claim is true and many people believe the name of the title is destiny.

Thoughts?

We were somewhere around Barstow...

Let that fire die. That story was the final nail in the Kotaku coffin for me.

damn right, my recon is better then yours!

Well anything on the internet can be faked. On the end of Bungie's post they said something maybe you should read it op.

Would Bungie lie about that kind of stuff?

I am the dark shadow haunting and lunking in the corner of your basement visiting B.net and asking for chocolate.

Kotaku earned their title as the worst game journalist website after that story. They're paid by how many hits they get for their story.

IGNorant is pretty bad too.

I get that someone who knew this information could have fabricated the whole claim of workers being laid off, but then the question is how did they know what they did.

Whisper Game Studios - shhhh, it's a public secret.

[*Please note that anything in my posts is likely to be filled with sarcasm, and should be taken with a pinch of salt. I tend to help people, usually*]

All Bungie denied was:

This evening, Kotaku Australia published a blog entry to their website claiming that Bungie recently terminated as many as thirty contract employees without notice or justification, effectively eliminating all non full time staff at the request of our publisher, Activision-Blizzard.

The claim is false.

Bungie has never been asked to lay off any employees or contract employees by our publisher, Activision-Blizzard, for any reason. The talented professionals who grace our offices day in and day out are the lifeblood of Bungie our most cherished commodity and the unsubstantiated rumors posted today are in direct opposition to the culture and values that we believe make Bungie an exceptional place to work, and to call home.

(Oh, and since we're on the subject, we're hiring.)

UPDATE

To clarify, Bungie has not experienced layoffs or group firings of any kind.

I don't believe that they will have fired anywhere near that amount of people. I'm sure they did fire a couple people (where else would that Tiger/Destiny information come from?) but as to the exaggerated extent that that contractor claimed? Doubtful. I know 343i took a handfull of ex-Bungie employees onboard, so it's likely any fired Bungie employees went there.

There is some speculation, and I believe it may end up being true. There has been quite a bit of detective work done and it all seems valid. I'm hoping it'll be PC exclusive, but if Bungie is going for the whole "Revolutionary Game" thing again then it may be the world's first successful console MMO.

"I don't care if it's God's own anti-Son of a -blam!- Machine or a giant hula-hoop!"

If Bungie says they didn't do something, they didn't do it. Sure, they have some secrets, but they have nothing to hide. (If that makes any sense to you guys...)
