I was glad they made Reach feel different. I was getting tired of the traditional Halo gameplay that 2 and 3 served me for a few years. Reach made the online play different enough to get me interested again. The best Halo game? Maybe. Probably not. The best that it could have been? I think so. Halo is past it's prime, and on it's way to the butcher. I feel there was no way in hell Reach could top the other games, but it was still hella funzies. I loved the addition of bloom. The other changes not so much.

Bloom was the worst addition.

It's like we're the same person. I felt like Bungie was trolling me during the Reach portion of the Vidoc. They have to be able to see the Xbox Live population is no where near the levels they were for previous games. While this isn't the best factor (Shadowrun is an awesome game) but clearly Reach didn't resonate as strongly with fans as previous Halo games. That's what frustrates me. Bungie acts like they hit Reach out of the part when in reality they stuck out.

Exactly what I was thinking as I was watching the vidoc. It's their last halo game, so they can do whatever they want kind of thing.

I'm a die hard fan and none of that pissed me off, I loved everything about Reach except how people couldn't adjust so they whined and whined. Anyway yeah does anybody here realize that you should just stop -blam!-ing? It WAS Bungie's game let em do what they want damn

Bloom was the worst addition.

In your humble opinion.

You just hate me 'cos I'm blak

Am I missing something? I thought Halo Reach was -blam!- awesome. But I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
I'm just really exited to see what Bungies' new project is.

No game is perfect. While some on B.net forums believed that Reach was a disaster, a huge majority of the Halo: Reach population thought otherwise. Majority rules senoir, the game wasn't as bad to fans as you may think it was.

Tritons summary of reach is very correct in terms of how the core world of halo sees reach along with halo veterans.

This game was designed for the casual player, and more or less for the people that made this game (bungie). It seems to people who play once every two weeks, and less skilled players armor lock and constant camo is amazing, but to people who form teams/clans, play competitively, or spend lots of time on halo its a disaster.

Having been playing halo for the last 7-8 years I have to say I enjoyed Halo 3 immensely, and enjoyed Halo 2 the most. Then when I learned reach was coming out I was very excited for bungies last halo, but after playing the beta I was very dissapointed.

Reach is a huge accomplishment for bungie, and I am very impressed with how far they have come as far as their technology, net coding, and graphics are. But Bloom, armor abilities, load outs, hit scan, and the health/shields system have drastically changed the game.

I myself and many of the people I have played with for years dislike reach and get easily frustrated with it. I can honestly say my friends on xbl and the fact that reach is halo game are the only reasons we play it.

To end I would like to thank bungie for the Halo CE, 2, and 3. Good luck to them in the future.

If you think Reach is imperfect, that's your opinion.

However, to Bungie, Reach was their sendoff. It was perfect to them, and that's what really matters most. If they thought it was perfect, then it is.

One person is not going to convince them otherwise.

Sadly, no matter what they say it is perfect, which it is not. Community decides, not game developers.

And, it was catered to casual audience that wants to get easy kills and don't have to work so hard, so that's why majority of people are still playing this game.

And, I agree with OP.

I really want to know how much pull Sage had over the design decisions.

If he did have complete oversight over the sandbox (his title is 'lead sandbox designer') that is where Bungie went wrong.

It's just not right to bring in a guy who was part of MechAssault, Crimsons Skies, and Shadowrun and put him in charge of Halo's sandbox. It makes absolutely no sense.

Maybe he's a great fit for this next project they are working on, but Reach reeks of the stench of those past games he was part of...not in a good way.

While I agree that Reach wasn't the "best", I have to say people overhyped Reach. It was a great game; from the amount of hate I've seen, you would think that the entire game was terrible or something. It's just a whole new experience. I would rather have something new like Reach, rather than the same old crap like Modern Warfare every year.

Want to see advanced Halo stats not offered by other Halo stat websites? Check out MetaHalo.com, the stats website I am working on. Reach stats currently in development.

Like BTB? Check out bigteambattle.net!

Reach's hype has nothing to do with its faults.

You guys do realize that they lost the contract and couldn't do anything to fix Reach knowing that it was in the hands of Microsoft, right? It's not that they don't care about us, it's just that they couldn't do anything to fix it.

  • 08.05.2011 1:02 AM PDT

Halo 2 was a big failure (it only got so much attention because of multiplayer which was horrible [compared to other Halos]).

What makes you "think" that Reach was failure is because you are just more competitive player and Reach was clearly "not so competitive".

Reach is the best halo in everyway. The only exceptions are campaing and competitive gameplay.

Bungie is not blind to faults because there were almost non in Reach in their opinion.

  • 08.05.2011 1:31 AM PDT

I completely agree. Reach isn't terrible, but it just isn't Halo. I was disappointed with it in a couple of ways, but for me the greatest failure was the plot and script. The dialogue was HORRIBLE. Corny and copy-paste characters set in a story that resembled nothing like canon.

Hopefully, Bungie can create something equally as good as, or even better than, the Halo trilogy.

I laughed when they said they really listen to their fanbase. Yeag, like how they completely listened to our pleads to fix Reach.

They live in their own little perfect world where they believe Reach is a creation of God. Reach belongs in the trash, it is byfar the worst Halo game and they cant accept that, so they've made themselves believe it is perfect.

Away from XBOX LIVE until both Doom 4 and Bungie's new game are released. The Flood will consume you.

Will the community play Halo 4 more than Bungie's -Blam!-? I'll be sure to put the man hours into both but right now, I really can't wait to play Bungie's "game changer".

Remember:

Thousands of man hours spent reading and playing Halo games is considerably less than the billions of man hours dedicated to creating a breathtaking universe.

Are you a troll? Or a really stupid fanboy.

The facts are their that Reach is doing far worse than previous Halos. Halo 2 was a great game, everything Reach should have been. I am not going into this again, Halo 2 and 3 multiplayers are what made xbox live. Reach? Lololol, it shouldnt even be called Halo. I remember them saying something like Halo CE was meant to be like Reach. If it was, i wouldnt have touched halo after that. The series probably would have completely failed after the first game if it played like that trash Reach.

Reach IS the worst Halo game.

Nothing to see here folks.

or is there?

I have to disagree. I liked the new innovations, like AA's and bloom.
If you don't like them, the community is in part to blame for it, as everybody always criticizes CoD for being the same game, so they attempted to innovate.
Also, the complaint about cannon is nitpicking to be honest.

If the Reach story was awesome, some more people would have let it slide. But they didn't even try to bring in canon. And reading the book is 20X more exciting than playing the Reach campaign.

Yeah and everyone can have their opinion but for the most part I see a lot of people agreeing that reach was the worst Halo game. The thing about AA's and bloom is that they are not part of the Halo norm and the fanbase played and enjoyed 3 games that didn't have those things so why add them now.

The last part of your post doesn't make too much sense to me I really don't think Bungie added those things becasue people were complaining abut Call of Duty that just doesn't seem plausible. They added those things because they wanted to try something new and they knew that they couldn't fail financially because of their loyal fanbase.

The complaints about cannon are 100% valid because if you are going to tell a story then consistency is quite a large part of it. They made a story and should have stuck to it rather than changing it half way down the road.
