SRK

Yeah, really. I never really found much to complain about with Reach. The style is different from standard Halo but it's still awesome.

I thought the ViDoc was great, but then I got to the end about Reach, and I was just so disappointed at the end.

For me personally, Reach was a colossal failure of a Halo game. Was it a terrible game? No, but it was named Halo, which carries an expectation, one that wasn't anywhere close to being fulfilled with Reach. So many things Bungie did with the game just didn't work for me, and the game frustrated me so much that I just stopped playing it. Halo 3's lifespan was years, Reach's was months. In fact, the only reason I even stopped playing Halo 3 was because Reach came out.

I won't go into detail about why I didn't like the game, I'll just say its probably similar to most others complaints with the games. It didn't feel the least bit like Halo.

I can understand why Bungie would be happy from a developer's point of view, but I'm surprised that they seem to be completely okay with the fact that Halo officially conceded top dog status to CoD because of Reach. I thought they would've taken pride in the fact that Halo was the top game, and in its three year lifespan, it competed with 3 different CoDs. I don't remember seeing a single Xbox Live list where Halo wasn't number 1 or 2, and after people got tired of the new CoDs, they would always go back to Halo, and it would regain the top spot. Reach, past maybe the first couple weeks, hasn't left the second (third once BO came out). CoD has doubled Halo's population.

I think that is a perfect example of what Reach is- not a bad game by any stretch of the imagination, but not worthy of the Halo name.

Soccer, Bungie has NEVER been into the whole retarded "Halo vs CoD" -blam!-.

Fun fact: Too celebrate the release of Black Ops, Treyarch, sent Bungie several dozen copies of the game along with a few limited editions with the RC car. I know this because Urk posted a picture of it.

I totally agree...i watched the ViDoc last night, after hearing about 20 times that the community for Bungie was most important, and what the felt was good and bad made an impact on the company. But what happened to reach? Things like armour abilities, and the ranking system are what took away from what made halo 3 amazing.. i know some people enjoy sprinting and all that, but what i really got hooked on was true skill, which came from good hearted xbox gamers. After all halo 3 was probably the best game bungie had created other than halo CE. Reach took a totally different turn, one that not everyone appreciated

My feelings exactly. I enjoy Reach, in fact, and play it quite a lot. But it's just not the same as the previous Halo games due to the campaign and very questionable sandbox design choices, which also leave it without any true competitive merit. Sure, MLG uses it... but MLG also uses BO. I'm really hoping 343's title update will make it worthy of the Halo name.

Name's WIlliam,

For the love of God it's pronounced mister-shag, not misters-hag.

This fellow makes a good point that basically summarizes my opinion. I don't know about the CoD bit, but they definitely needed to innovate for one reason or another. Halo was getting stale. At the start of each 1 on 1 br fight in H3 I knew who was going to win before the first shot was fired. That got stale so bloody quick that Reach needed more variables, which birthed bloom and AA's.
Reach was awesome, and if you're too competitive to play a game with small variables I guess you wouldn't like Reach. Reach needed something different other than a graphics engine. Without bloom and Armor Abilities, Reach would have just been another Halo game. They made it different, which is something I can respect. It proved to me that Bungie was into Halo for more than the money, because a new engine and the same gameplay would have likely sold just as well. By adding new features, it felt like a new game which was exactly what Halo needed to do to keep me interested.
Also, I still believe there are more "casual" players out there than competitive ones, it just seem otherwise because there are more competitive players on the forums than casual ones.
Haters gonna hate, after all, what are forums for if not for complaining?

I have to disagree. I liked the new innovations, like AA's and bloom.
If you don't like them, the community is in part to blame for it, as everybody always criticizes CoD for being the same game, so they attempted to innovate.
Also, the complaint about cannon is nitpicking to be honest.

Reach has TrueSkill, it just doesn't show it to you. It's system of TrueSkill is actually arguably better (meaning more complex) than the previous version used in Halo 3.

I suppose you are right, they did seem pretty, well desperate seems a strong word, excited to get off the halo series.not because they found themselves hating halo, but because they wanted to try new things. I guess that became apparent in the changes made from the regular formula in odst and reach. I guess it is for the best, bungie get to try their (hopefully) awesome new ideas, and we still get to play more halo. everybody wins! unless 343 -blam!- halo 4 up...

I really want to know how much pull Sage had over the design decisions.

If he did have complete oversight over the sandbox (his title is 'lead sandbox designer') that is where Bungie went wrong.

It's just not right to bring in a guy who was part of MechAssault, Crimsons Skies, and Shadowrun and put him in charge of Halo's sandbox. It makes absolutely no sense.

Maybe he's a great fit for this next project they are working on, but Reach reeks of the stench of those past games he was part of...not in a good way.
Finally, some one gets it.

Reach was a great game for those who weren't die-hard Halo fans, and those that were felt that it was lacking that special something found in other Halo's.

But what is a "Die-hard halo fan".

We all have our own descriptions of that.

What DaeFaron said, what constitutes a "die-hard" Halo Fan though? One could quite easily say that I am one of them, yet I love Reach, I think it's one of the very best Halo games so far. Also my best friend and the one who got me hooked on Halo could also be described as a die-hard Halo fan, and he loves Reach almost as much as I do, and he's been a fan of Halo since the very, very beginning too, so you can't say that anyone who's been a fan since CE automatically hates it too.

I have to disagree, vehemently, OP. Bungie IS Halo, and always will be. It was their brainchild, and thus, they cannot ever be truly separated from it.

These new games coming out, Halo 4 and whatnot, are not TRUE Halo games, and they never will be. Not without Bungie. Its sad, but it is a fact that cannot be ignored.

Halo 3 was the ending of the main franchise, and was an apex that we will never see Halo come to again.

Hello! You may also know me as Ijnekono. How you have made your way here I do not know, but welcome. (:

Halo 6 will be the best. That is my prediction.

343i and MS did say another trilogy, right? And that would mean Halo 4, 5 and 6.

Are you legit? Do you have any idea how messed up Halo 2 was for them? THEY CUT A THIRD OF THE GAME. They didn't even think they were going to ship it! Not to mention the countless glitches, short campaign, and complete lack of a conclusion. What's wrong with Reach? Bloom, armor lock, and sword block? None but a few forum-goers care, Halo 2 was actually seriously screwed up. It turned out a great game, but it was a more troubled development and more flawed than Reach.

So? For a Halo game, Halo 2 performed amazingly well and Reach was more of a flop. That cannot be denied.

I'm going to assume that you're either from the future and have played Halo 4, or you're trolling.

Bungie let us down with Reach. It split the community in two, which has since devolved into a flame war with fanboys and trolls on both sides.

Or that's his honest opinion...

I've seen "Reach isn't a halo game!" cried out so much lately...
