I was shocked when I watched the ViDoc and found out that Halo 2's campaign wasn't 100% done when the deadline was reached and the real ending had to be scrapped and that's why there was such a cliffhanger ending.

I personally thought that game was perfect and it still is my favorite Halo game that Bungie has developed. I even thought the ending on a down note was a good way to end the 2nd game, I now want to know what the ending was supposed to be. I am also curious how that could have affect Halo 3's story and release if it's original ending was there.

Regardless, the ViDoc was a good eye opener of all the rings that Bungie had to jump through in order to become successful.
Thank you Bungie, for everything and hopefully your new games will continue the "Bungie Standard" that I am used to playing.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

:)
The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

Bungie has said it a couple of times, Halo 2's campaign was pretty much chopped in two to meet the deadline.

RIP Halo 2

It's still my favorite.

I had a feeling when I was playing it for the first time that it was going to end with a cliffhanger, which I'd have been honestly fine with, but I hated they way it ended as well.

Benjamin!

Gotta say, I seem to be one of the few people who liked the cliff hanger ending to Halo 2. Though the boss fight with Tartarus was not the best way to end the actual gameplay.
From what I've heard though, there was a mission with a Forerunner "tank" and a mission with Gravemind that was cut, I've not got any sources to back that up, mind. But it's what I remember reading.
I'd be interested to know how things would have turned out if they'd not been rushed and it came out fully loaded and ready for combat though.

Screw the Battle with Tartarus. I guess that's the only thing I didn't like about that campaign. The other thing that kinda was a let down was that the last mission you don't play as the Master Chief. I like Arby, but I'm guessing that's what the last mission that got scrapped lol

Agreed.
It still had the best story, most depth out of all Halo games and the longest campaign. Ending was weak perhaps, but at the same time: we knew a cliffhanger was coming as this was the center piece of the trilogy.
And to be honest: in a time where fast internet was still in its babyshoes and I didn't really got online that much to check the news, the way H2 ending assured a certain H3...which to me meant a big grin and cheering at the end of the campaign.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

The original ending was claimed to be absolutely beautiful. I can't remember if it was McLees or Staten who wrote it, but they claimed that it was the most consummate and emotional ending they've ever written, and it was almost heart-wrenching to know it would never see the light of day.

Despite many requests, he claims it will never be shown.

I just know that the portal that leads to the Ark in Halo 3 was supposed to be the Ark itself in the original end of Halo 2. There is a concept of it with "Ark 09" or something like that above it, that appeared before Halo 3 was out, and so everyone thought that the portal you could see in the announcement trailer was the Ark.

Halo 2 taught Bungie a lot of things, and they certainly wouldn't be the company they are today without that.

I adored Halo 2, so it's strange to think that it could have been even better.

Damn deadlines.

I think about half way through the 20th anv video when they are talking about the LAN parties for halo 2 they had a pic of master chief with a skull for his face under his mask. Does anyone know where I can find that pic!!

It was not awful, fit the game and series perfectly - i think!
But well .. I must admit that I myself threw the controller to the other end of the room basically cuz' I wanted more! ...

On a side note .. I think it's a bit sad that 343 are only making a remake of Halo CE .. I would LOVE o play a Halo 2 REMAKE ... With assassinations , jetpacks - Reach-stuff! xD
But I guess thats too much to hope for ... :P

Do you know what kind of hat I'm wearing?

A party hat; you don't get one. An honor will this party be, a party in your honor, for your honor. Some of Tfear's personal guards are going to be there. You'll be introduced shortly.

Prepare to die.

Same thing here, Halo 2 is still my favorite campaign.
The different and beautiful environments and new characters all made sense.

in the original Halo 2 script, was supposed to "weld a thermobaric bomb to the Master Chief's armor" in a deal with the Prophet of Regret. Jason Jones, on the Halo 3 Legendary Edition commentary, said he wanted to put this in Halo 2, and was going to add this to Halo 3.
It seems that it would have ended ... with a bang

Wow, must have been quite an ending. But that is what could have happened, not what did. No matter what we do we can't change that, and even if we could, would it be for the better?

The only thing wrong with Halo 2, were the brutes. They were awful to fight against. But that's it.
