Prologue: Boot

Planet Brime
November 22nd (Earth Time) 2543

As a fall back Military Base, Brime is run by a Lieutenant Colonel who goes by the name of James Mendoza. He is brother of one of his stationed soldiers Gabriel Mendoza, who he himself considers a freak. His brother is a man assigned to the platoon with the highest death rate in the entire UNSC Military that everyone calls; 'Ghosts' because they figure that everyone in that platoon is already dead. Formally it is Third Platoon, Gamma Company, 5th Battalion.

The newest 'Ghost' who was Gabriel Mendoza stared at himself in the mirror, he had a genetic defect that caused his hair to go completely white and his irises were naturally a bright Silver that seemed to glitter in the sun like diamonds. He seemed to be hypnotised by his own eyes as he stared into them, his hands placed on either side of the sink and his face had small clear droplets dripping from his chin and the tip of his nose.

He squinted his eyes and let a single tear fall, he had just finished cryo sleep and the first thing that came to him was the pain of his mother screaming in his face about his decision to join the marines. She had begged for them to place him where his older brother was who pretty much hated Gabriel in his own personal opinion. Always on his case and telling him that he was doing something wrong or terribly.

He smiled somberly as he locked his emotions away and exited the small restroom in his dorm, taking a towel and drying his face off with it. He sat down quickly on his cot and slumped against the wall of the small metal room.

He still had three days until they arrived at Brime, that was an exceedingly long time but he asked for his tube to be set three days before they arrived.

Ghost closed his eyes for what he thought to be a few moments, but when he opened them again he saw a blurry figure standing in the doorway. "-y uhm... is this the right place?" A very feminine voice asked him and he sat up immediately.

"If you are staying in Dorm D-47... then yes." He said to her, forcing a smile on his face as he looked at her facial features.

She had green eyes, auburn hair, and looked... interesting; to him atleast. She had colour in her hair, that was different... she looked cuter than most girls.

"Yes. Thats where I'm staying." She said and sat down at the cot on the other side of the small and enclosed room that was his dorm, he had a small kitchen for cooking and a shower for getting cleaned up.

"So, what made you get out of cryo three days early?" He asked her out of curiosity.

"Less disorientation." She said, "You?" she asked him after a moment.

"I thought the same, I was hoping I'd feel less..."

"-blam!-?"

"You could say that."

"Yeah." She said and brushed a stray strand of hair from her eyes and looked back at Gabriel.

"Why did you dye your hair white?" She asked him.

Gabriel blinked a few times, confused slightly but he placed a hand on the top of his head and felt of his white hair. "I was born like this." He said to her after a moment of thinking and looked like he had answered that question alot.

She nodded. "Oh, sorry if I offended you." She half-mumbled and looked at him. "How long have you been in the corps?"

"I just enlisted, you?" He answered and then asked quietly, feeling slightly embarrassed.

"Had this Job for about a year, I'm a corpsman, being transferred to Brime for leave." She said, smiling slightly as he showed some interest in her.

"Cool." He said and grinned. "I'll see you on the ground."

She smiled and nodded. "I'm going to catch some sleep. I was frozen before I could get any, so technically I was already up for the day." She said and slowly laid down.

"Alright. Same." He said and fell asleep, most likely more quickly than her.

-----------------------------------

Gabriel awoke to the smell of bacon and a speck of hot grease hitting him on the face. He sat up with extraordinary immediateness and rose from the sad-little cot of his in a single fluid motion, he saw her, cooking food and he stood at ease.

"Morning roomy." She said to him and Gabriel simply blinked.

"I never got your name." He said to her blinking as he held out his hand.

"Julienne, everyone calls me Jewels though." She said and shook his hand.

"Gabriel, Gabriel Mendoza." He said and introduced himself finally.

"Nice to meet you. You hungry?" She asked and gestured to the cooking Bacon and scrambled eggs.

"I just realized how hungry I am." He said to her and stared at the food, something was gnawing at him to unleash some sort of beast, ready to devour all of its food.

"Good... it will be done soon." He said to her.

After a few moments, he was given a plate of food to devour, and devour he did, they made simple conversation getting to know one another better and a little more. One could say that they were beginning to become friends.

The food he ate tasted absolutely delicious in all honesty and sense of the word, or so his thoughts said.

That was nearly half-an-hour ago and he could still taste it...

For a few moments Gabriel was lost in thought. He thought about his mother, how she screwed him over so badly that he was an anti-social bastard with close to no friends at all.

He continued to stay lost in his thoughts... wondering curiously, about his... crush - his thoughts were cut off abruptly as he began to think about bootcamp and where he was going. He teared up slightly as he stood in the restroom, staring at the mirror over the small sink.

And that concludes my epically short Prologue that has no actual plot or purpose. Just building up the main character... slightly.
In a manner of speaking.

The tide is turning, brothers! Let us take our kingdom back!

It's good so far. I'd recommend changing your opening paragraph from present to past tense, though. I have no complaints otherwise.

Chapter One: Malfunctions?

Two Days before arrival at Brime....

The ship rocked violently and Gabriel slammed his face on the wall of the ship. "Ffffff-blam!-!" He growled and felt his nose, it was bleeding and hurt like -blam!- but it wasn't broken at the very least.

"What the hell was that?!" He recovered and asked a passing marine.

"LETS GO! THE SHIP'S RIPPING IN HALF!" He screamed and ran towards the bridge section of the ship.

"Wait what? Holy -blam!-!" Gabriel shouted and made a break for the escape pods on the other half.

He noticed a familiar female figure and her auburn hair nearly pass him, he grabbed her by her forearm and spun her around. "Lets go." He ordered and moved quickly.

"Where are we going?!" She asked, nearly 'freaking-out' as he would put it as they moved.

"Escape pod."

"We're not gonna make it!"

"We'll make it."

Shoving past several Marine-recruits and entering one of the escape pods. Gabriel slammed his fist on the button to close the escape pod doors. The emergency lights were now-nonexistent as Gabriel personally manned the pilot-seat with no actual experience and activated the thrusters, adjusting a lever by pure chance and luck - Luck that may have changed.

They shot out from the ship as it began tearing and their escape pod was smacked by a piece of debris. Sending them veering off course and pretty-much into the unknown - Luck was still the same after all.

Gabriel feinted and threw-up on the viewscreen and fell to the floor seemingly lifelessly as he was given the ride of his life.

----------------

43 Minutes later.

"- Wake up, Gabriel Wake up damnit..." A voice demanded of him and his eyes shot open and he sat up quickly.

He groaned as the disorientation set in and he nearly blacked-out once again. "Where are we?" He asked her.

"Funny you should ask, you're the one that brought us to this escape pod and manually ejected us from the frigate that ripped in half and killed everyone on board judging by the fact that nobody is responding on the Repercussion..." She said flatly and with a grimace.

"Oh... you could've just said... 'Escape-pod' though." He said to her, smirking as he slowly stood-up. "Least I know you don't hate me." He said to her.

"Why do you make that assumption?" She asked him.

"Oh... nothing." He said to her and checked the weapons locker for any weapons. He opened it with a click and he saw the weapons... Three clips, and a weapon he recognized as the MA37 'Army-ICWS' - Which is what the Marines Identified the weapon as.

"Tell me."

"Nope."

Gabriel loaded a clip into the weapon and chambered a 7.62 MM FMJ round, it was coming back to him, he stole UNSC field Manuals from a Recruitment post and read up on the weapons and ammo when he was thirteen years of age - It was a fun way to kill time and learn about the force he was going to enlist for in the new future - back in the day.

He held the rifle in the most comfortable position and rested the butt of the weapon against his shoulder and in a tight position. It most likely had a high-kickback due to the size and fullness of the bullet and shells he used. The MA37 had higher power and was more effective at close range than the MA5B ICWS. Which was more effective at long-range.

Gabriel grunted and ended his thoughts, he grabbed a small kit and placed it on the seats,he dropped to both knees and opened it. There was four grenades in a row. "Perfect..." He said and looked for anything else. There was a M6D Magnum and a single 'Medkit' with several components that gave it that name within the kit.

Gabriel took the grenades and placed them onto the belt that he wore with his fatigues. He had no armor and didn't actually need it, he didn't need he guns either but it was always better to be safe than sorry.

Gabriel grunted and look at his female companion, he handed her the Medkit and M6D Magnum.

"What do we need these for?" She asked.

"Just being safe... its not normal for UNSC Frigates to just rip in half is it?" He asked her out of curiousity.

"Well... I've never heard of Frigates ripping in half out of randomness... but... No... that can't be..." She said and ended her thoughts.

"What? What can't be?" Gabriel demanded and gripped the grip of his MA37.

"The covenant are rumoured to have a 'prototype' ship capable of creating a gravity well that stops ships in slipspace... but... those are only myths among UNSC forces..." She said.

"What?" Gabriel asked and his eyes widened slightly. He took a seat and leaned against the wall, sliding down to the seat and sitting down extremely slowly.

"so everyone's dead?" He asked her, somewhat in disbelief, but he could believe it... he was there and those memories were only a blur to his mind. All he remembered was running in a straight line and jumping in the first escape pod that he saw. Adrenaline controlled him for that time.

"I... I..." She 'confirmed' and sniffled. Hiding her tears and looked away, she obviously didn't like 'death' but here she was. A corpsman who saw more dying people and death than any single soldier in the Marine Corps.

Gabriel only felt rage and adrenaline surge into his veins, he gripped his weapon and slammed the butt of the weapon into the wall of the bumble-bee, like an animal trying to get out of his cage.

"I'll kill everyone of these covenant bastards! One covenant dead for every one Marine and human dead on that ship! AND FOR EVERYONE THAT DIED IN THIS WAR!" He roared and continuously slammed the weapon into the wall, needing out or he would kill them both by accident- The Escape pod rocked and seemed to start moving ever slowly... too slowly.

Gabriel paced up and down the Escape pod aisle, she stayed out of his way but he wouldn't hurt his only friend.

Gabriel laughed loudly as the pod came into contact with something and the doors finally slid open, revealing a small form with a pointed-back and it seemed to be wearing a porta-potty.

"Time to die you ugly -blam!-!" Gabriel shouted and fired a burst of MA37 fire into the face of the small and stocky figure.

It fell limp, hitting its face on the floor of the pod and the blue-ick that seemed to be it's blood appealed to Gabriel... it was a blue substance that wasn't at all like his own.

"One!" He said and exited the escape pod, he squinted his eyes as they adjusted to the light. He wish they hadn't, he saw about seven other figures aim their 'weapons' at him and got ready to fire.

"Prepare to die!" A larger figure shouted.

"I Was born prepared! BUT WERE YOU!?" He demanded and fired at the figure. The rounds slammed into the armor but seemed to be absorbed by some sort of blue-energy field.

It laughed menacingly but was cut off as Gabriel's quick thinking and adrenaline caused him to pull the pin off of a Fragmentation grenade and he charged the 'shielded opponent' slamming the grenade into its split-face and running past it.

The Grenade stuck into it's mouth and exploded into a shrapnel.

Bolts of super-heat started to fly at Gabriel. Past him - it was at that point... that time seemed to slow-down for him, everything moved slower as he continued to move at the same speed... everything did... but it all just seemed like he moved faster.

He dodged a few of the super-heat bolts and tossed a grenade in the bunch of them. He dived behind a small column and time sped-up once again. It was a strange process and was new but also interesting to Gabriel.

"What the -blam!-?" He asked himself as he rolled to his feet and shrapnel flew past his face at an excessive speed.

Gabriel rose to his feet and walked back to where his foes were, he had no training but he was smart-enough to know a 'energy-shield' when he saw one.

Gabriel took a look at his surrounding, the area seemed like a hangar with the same 'energy-tech' keeping all the oxygen and whatnot that allowed life to exist inside of the ship... or however that worked.

"Hangar... We're inside... a... covenant ship." Gabriel said and pinched the bridge of his nose.

"Dear god." He said quietly and looked inside the Escape pod. 'She' was still in there.

"So... shall... we get going and find the bridge of the ship?" He asked her.
