Again, as I said in my OP;

Your opinion =/= fact. If you think Reach is a big steaming pile, then that is your opinion.

I've never understood why people say this. Opinions are either right or wrong.
Opinions by nature are neither, what are you talking about? I can have the opinion that I'm fat and someone else can have the opinion I'm not, but it doesn't make either of us wrong, we may just classify "fat" differently. Or in Reach's case, you may not be having any as much fun as I do in the game because we're either playing the game differently or we just like different things in a game, and those factors affect our opinions to be different.

You make me feel good to come here, OP. Thanks for the thread.

I love Bungie, I love Halo, I love this Community, I'm pretty da** certain that I will be hopelessly addicted to Bungie's next game/IP. I'm just trying to make threads that help us grow as a community of gamers.

Thank you for your compliment. =)

I think the ViDoc brought the core together significantly.

I agree with most all of that, OP, but I think the Zen analogy is a stretch. It isn't exactly as grand as you make it out either, but it's the right idea.

I know that the ViDoc did bring the Core Community closer together. It is evidenced in the quality of a majority of the posts since it aired, and the lack of butt-hurt flaming trolls cruising the threads. lol

The kind of thanks for our support and loyalty that Bungie has given us is rarely seen from game companies. And Bungie does this stuff better than any other company I've ever seen.

I have loved Halo since Bungie made it, and I have loved Bungie ever since I started cruising this Community. No company shows gratitude to their community like Bungie does, and I love Bungie more for it every day.

As for Zen, it was similar, but you see where I'm coming from. lol

That may have something to do with the length, though. Any sort actual butt-hurt folks wouldn't sit through the hour-long ViDoc. That can't complain, they didn't watch it.

They don't have anything to say.

^ Exactly.

As for the ViDoc, I downloaded it to my computer. This way I have it and any other important ones for viewing whenever the mood tickles me. lol

Gratitude for loyalty like this Community gets from Bungie, it's a rare thing amongst game developers. I love Bungie for it, and they can count on me as a Hardcore Gamer and Fan for as long as they are in the industry.

It's kind of like a nice cup of tea whilst sitting next to the koi pond. lol

It is nice though. The raging had been pretty bad since about a month before Reach dropped. I like the fact that most of them have gone to continue their raging, but do it on 343's site.

I like 343, don't get me wrong. I think they'll do a descent job with Halo. But their site is difficult to navigate, so I really only go there for the random update to Reach, and for an alternate look at my stats, though I like B.net better. Here you can at least look at a list of how your Commendations are doing all at once, or see all of the Medals you earn in your games and see how many you have over all. You don't have that option on Waypoint.

From the looks I've gotten at their Forums lately, the trolls have moved in quite nicely (and quickly btw...).

But all of that aside, I'm loving that this Community is moving back to it's core adherents. The change in the whole attitude of the Forums has moved remarkably to the positive side of things.

I'm lovin' it!

edit = misspelling on the fishies! lol

I just wish I had created a username when I first checked the forum out in 2004. I would have seen all those times properly, instead of just checking my rank.

I know, right?

There are so many times that I wish I had written down my old GT, Windows Live ID, password, Bungie.net sign in, etc. so that way I could still have my old account from 2006... I would've been 5 years old by now! lol

But who thinks that they'd ever forget this info, right? lol

Homelessness makes you forget stuff, and I regret not writing this stuff down.

But, such is life, I have this profile now, and all of that info is written down and safely locked in a secure place.

I try very hard to not repeat my mistakes. lol

"Fat" would obviously have to be defined clearly for misunderstandings not to occur. Once we'd precisely defined "fat", however, the truth value of "Phoenix9508 is fat" would be discoverable.

Also, we could define what is meant by "good game", and then defend the truth or falsity of "Halo Reach is a good game"-and be sure that one of us is right.

Equally, I could be of the opinion that "The Sahara is freezing cold", and we could also work out whether or not this is true.

Note also that "Opinions are not right or wrong" (honestly, this is so ridiculously ignorant it makes my head hurt) is also an opinion, and thus the position undermines itself.

And yet this is as well, just an opinion. It is neither right nor wrong, simply yours.

As is this-like I said, the view undermines itself, since the claim "Opinions are neither right nor wrong" is also an "opinion". Really, though: are you honestly saying that no claim is true or false? Your first post seems to suggest otherwise.

Nope, and nothing I have said since my OP has in anyway invalidated my OP.

Very simply, I stand by my statements that there is a difference between having a legitimate complaint, and those who rage simply for the sake of raging.

Those are the people that we are happy are gone. The pure hatred ragers that have moved their blind angst over to 343's forums. These people have zero facts to back up their arguments, they are just saying the game is broken and horrible, just to get a rise out of the rest of the community.

That's my clarification, and from what I've seen, a lot of people are happy that the troll ragers are leaving.

How is this relevant to what our exchange is about?

But, wait: you seem to have presented some opinions in the post I'm quoting here. But since you say opinions are neither right nor wrong, I guess no one has any reason to listen to you-because it's all "subjective", right?

  • 08.06.2011 6:50 PM PDT

~ Life is Killing Me. ~

It is relevant to our exchange in that you had implied that my opinion on opinions was thereby invalidating some or all of my OP.

So I therefore clarified my stance on the subject of what I considered a "whiner for the sake of whining" versus someone who had a legitimate complaint (read: someone who isn't complaining just to get a rise, but is actually bringing up an issue with said game and supports it with facts).

And no, no one has any reason beyond curiosity to read my post, but aside from their own inclinations, they also have no reason to not read my post.

I respect your point of view, even if I don't agree with it. And that respect is what the Core Bungie.net community is built around. That like here, we can have a healthy discussion/disagreement without having a flame war just to get a reaction. The people that create the flame wars, just to get everyone all riled up are the ones who I am saying that the community is happy about leaving B.net. the proof of that is spread out all over this thread.

You agreed with another poster that opinions are neither true nor false. Thus, on your view, any opinion in your OP can be ignored-because none of them are true! It'd be best for you to just admit at this point that "Opinions are neither true nor false" is an ignorant position which you reflexively adopted for the sake of disagreement.

Glad you've been clearer here than you were in the OP. I think implying that I don't know the fourth letter of the alphabet is flaming, however-and hardly respectfully disagreeing.

I apologize for that comment, I got a little carried away.

I try not to simply reflexively adopt statements just for the sake of disagreement, but any opinion any where can be ignored. It is my opinion in my description of the trolls, but it is fact that a majority of the respondents today also share my opinion.

If you dislike Reach, as you said in your first reply to my thread, then that is fine. But just judging by the site definition of a troll, that dislike/complaint needs to be backed up with fact in order to be legitimate. Any complaint/flaming not backed up with fact is trolling by definition.

I'm not implying you are a troll, quite the opposite. Just by our discourse over the length of this thread, you have proven to not be a troll as you are constantly using facts to back your opinion as I am as well.

Even though we disagree, there is none of the rampant flaming that is common in most threads before the Aug. 2nd transfer. this makes for a healthy Community.

=)

The community is slowly regaining its sanity... and its intelligence as well. lol

The trolls were starting to starve here, so they went to better feeding grounds over at the 343 fields.

I check the 343 site for Halo updates as well, but I stay away from the Forums since I saw the thread count explode between the 3rd & 4th.

It is the Great Troll Exodus that the Bungie Community is celebrating right now. lol

Our Forums are ours again!!
