Halo Wars 2? No please, NO

  • 08.06.2011 11:15 PM PDT

I'm not afraid to take a stand
Everybody come take my hand
We'll walk this road together, through the storm
Whatever weather, cold or warm
Just let you know that, you're not alone
Holla if you feel that you've been down the same road

Its not cannon and thats what everyone cares about

Ignore the nay sayers. They just can't expand their horizon past FPS games. Anyway, I'd love a Halo Wars 2 along with an ODST 2, I may add. Halo Wars and ODST are two very underrated games that deserve sequels. (Another ODST wouldn't exactly be a sequel, though, but you know what I mean.)

Maybe make it a prequel going back to when Buck was at reach.
It could work. Right?

-------------------------------------------------------------------
- We all get tea bagged from time to time, just deal with it...

I think Halo Wars shouldn't be grouped in with straight up RTS games. To me, a true real time strategy game would be Starcraft 2. A PC RTS, with tons of enemies, lots of options, you can build bases anywhere, can be extremely fast paced, etc.

The reason I enjoyed Halo Wars so much, is not only was it set in the Halo universe (which made it very familiar and much easier to grasp), it had great console controls, the action between units was almost more fun to watch then to play sometimes, and yes it was a real time strategy, but I liked the slower pacing on the console. (If you have ever watched a professional Starcraft 2 player blaze away at a keyboard, it is just insane) It made me feel like I didn't have to play it for hours upon hours per day and read into a bunch of strategies in order to hold my own against a better player.

My main complaints about Halo Wars was the limited number of races, leaders, units, etc. It got a little dry a little too quickly. Occasionally someone would throw in a suicide grunt rush or an army completely made of cyclopses to make it interesting, but most encounters you could predict the outcome. The maps could have been a little bigger but I feel with size comes more difficulty controlling different armies around the map.

To sum up, I would love to see a sequel to see how they improve the game!

your WTF level has increased +5

well i knew that not everyone would agree to my post....but,
its cool to see that there are still some true HW fans out there, who probably would kill 4 a sequel or prequel, or whatever........

i´ve red now all you replys and am amazed what kinda experts some of you are,

well, if its true that they will continue the story in the new coming Halo trilogie, thats cool^^

But I just want a sequel, one in which you are able build where you want, different units, bigger troop limits and a Ass kicking Story:)

"This was a triumph...
I'm making a note here, huge success.
It's hard to overstate my satisfaction..."

I love it. They need to make a sequal. Nao. :)

May I ask why a sequel would be bad? The Forerunner-Flood War is a great place to hold a sequel/prequel of sorts. But I suppose actual strategy is too much for you folks, best keep it simple with the explosions and action so your brains can understand everything.

so warthog rushing is strategy? dont get me wrong i like the game but when have you actually ever won a match with strategy other than a rush? it wasnt exactly the most balanced game

Countering one is. Choosing the right time to rush is. Planning, executing and backing up is.

A successful rush means you basically fell to one of the the weakest unit in the UNSC's arsenal.

What, is Zerg rushing is banned in Starcraft?

And yes. And I never rush except when playing private matches with friends.

Agreed.

And give it full Kinect support.
Hybrid controls (controller + Kinect) or full voice and motion controls via Kinect are what the console-RTS genre needs.

As for the haters, I'm going to quote myself from a few days ago:
In order for a non-traditional console genre to work, you need some pioneers that strip things down to the basis and make that work properly and then move the genre forward.

Same has happened with console FPS games.

As for Halo Wars: its lack of resource management was maybe a bit dissapointing but in the end it made the game a proper Halo in nearly every aspect. It was part of the sub-genre of the RTS genre in which the main focus is on combat and not on resources.

Rushing is a problem in every RTS game. When I played Age of Empires 2 back in the days, people were rushing. Rushing happens in Starcraft. In Warcraft. In any RTS game. And, as lame as it is, it is a strategy.

And lack of resource management is also an argument that can be countered: Bungie was one of the founding fathers of the RTS sub-genre in which there is no focus on resources. Games like the Total War series (which are top strategy games) and Bungies own Myth are like that.
And suprise: Halo was originally going to be like that. Halo Wars is nothing more than an elaborate hommage to that original concept.

The problem is not Halo Wars being "bad" (or basically being just what it is), but too many people comparing it to PC RTS games. While the fact of the matter is we should see console RTS and PC RTS games as separate genres.
Look at how console FPS games started out. Also as inferior to the PC counterparts. Untill games like GoldenEye and finally Halo came and pushed the genre forward towards maturity.

Console RTS games still have that next step to make. And for the genre it would be a great thing if there would be a sequel to Halo Wars. Simply because, quite frankly, it is the best console RTS game out there.

As for its topic: well a game in the era of Cryptum/Primordium would be epic. I would definatly love a game like that.
Unfortunatly Ensemble isnt around to make it anymore. But I bet 343i can find a studio that could make it happen (Creative Assembly please?!)

i think halo needs to fill another genre other than fps (and a failed rts) maybe a rpg of some sorts....

I agree that it could use another genre. I'm skeptical with Halo 4. I think it is too soon. I would like to see a different take on the series. Maybe a true Covenant perspective where you play as an Elite in a different style of play.

In my opinion, Halo Wars 2 would also be a welcome addition, it's just unfortunate that RTS's are not as popular.

Sadly, Microsoft has practically shot down any hopes of another ODST like experience by saying that they thought it was a mistake not having the players fill
the role of Master Chief.

Gotta love people saying I hate strategy games. I played Starcraft every day for at least six years, AoE for at least two years, and C&C for a couple months.

Halo Wars is crap compared to most RTS games, that being said, there's no point to making a sequel, because unless major gameplay elements were changed, the game would still be crap compared to most RTS games, therefore, there would be no point in playing it.

The people who play it, obviously can't play real RTS games, or have no idea what a real RTS game is like, hmm Halo Wars or Starcraft 2? I'd take Starcraft 2 any day.

Ehhh...they already messed Reach up enough canon-wise. I'm sure they could make something out of Buck on Reach. However, a lot of people are in favor of playing as ODST's on Harvest.

I'd like to know what happens to the Spirit of Fire, but Console RPGs just don't work.

I hope you mean RTS' and even then they can work.

Yeah I meant RTS, I was 35 hours no sleep when I wrote that.

The Elites were bloody awesome! Especially in the "5 Long Years..." cutscene where they start charging the humans with their dual wielded Energy Swords, Banshees and what-not. Halo Wars reached a cinematic scale none of the other Halo games (and not many games in general) could hold a candle to.

I'm all for a HW 2, the first one was very well done and so very underrated.

I cosign this.
To be quite honest, the only other Halo game with such high quality cutscenes was Halo 2. That one just had graphics that are nowhere nearly as awesome as the CGI in Halo Wars.

I don't understand the principal game developers have of making cutscenes in-engine. Halo Wars and FFXIII have the best looking cutscenes I've ever seen and they're pre-rendered CGI, they do a much better job than just trying to show how cool your latest engine is.

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

I wish they'd come out with a Halo Wars 2, I absolutly loved it. And I dont usually like RTS games, but Halo Wars was the exception to the case. It was really well made and well balanced, except for some minor issues, mainly the Prophet.

I'd be all up for it, they added great new additions in the form of new vehicle to the Halo Universe.

avid forger, love vehicle gameplay

the units and structures in Halo Wars were incredibly detailed, even more so than some PC RTS games. Halo wars was a great game, had an interesting story, and a sleek interface that not many other console RTSs can match. Granted, there were some problems, like not that much of a diverse range of unique units to select from, but when you add eveything up, it becomes quite the option-fest. Making the covenant as a faction that play completly different than the UNSC was a great idea. Wars does suffer from a lack of naval units (in my opinion), which many great RTSs now include such as supreme commander 2 and C&C: red alert, but offers a great gameplay without them. I found the Base building part to be really intersting, as it forces you to be strategic with your bases more so than other RTSs.
