How to get Marathon for free:

Here is a guide on how to download and install Aleph One, the Marathon game we play multiplayer in on the computer.

Posted by: Sardonic13
1. Go to marathon.sourceforge.net.

2. Click on the picture for Marathon Infinity. The file download window will pop up. Save the MarathonInfinity.zip file somewhere on your computer where you can find it. The Desktop or the My Documents folder are good places.

3. Click on the picture for the operating system of your computer, be it Mac, Windows, or Linux. The file download window will pop up. Save the AlephOne-20100424.zip file in the same folder you saved the MarathonInfinity.zip file in step 2.

4. Open the MarathonInfinity.zip file and copy the Marathon Infinity folder to a convenient location on your computer (the Desktop or My Documents will work).

5. Open the AlephOne-20100424.zip file and copy the AlephOne-20100424 folder to the same folder you copied the Marathon Infinity folder to in step 4.

6. Open the newly created AlephOne-20100424 folder. Copy all of the folders and files in the AlephOne-20100424 folder into the Marathon Infinity folder. If you are asked to replace files, click "Yes to all".

7. Double click the AlephOne.exe file in the Marathon Infinity folder. This should launch Marathon infinity.

8. Click the Preferences button in Marathon Infinity and adjust the preferences to suit your needs.

This process is tailored to Windows installation and will work for all 3 Marathon games. It is best to have a separate folder and a separate version of Aleph One for each game.
On step six I clicked no and it still worked for me.

Here is the controls I use in Aleph One:
Use mouse. Mouse sensitivity-all the way down. Accelerate mouse off
Always run
move forward-w
move backward-s
sidestep left-a
sidestep right-d
previous weapon-q
next weapon-mouse wheel (the game will do this automatically for u)
trigger-left click(mouse 1)
2nd trigger-right click(mouse 2)
action-e
auto map-tab

When you first start up Marathon it will not be full screen. To make it full screen go to preferences then graphics and check fill the screen. I also put the screen size to 1024x768 and it worked fine for me.

To sign in first make an account at Mariusnet.com then in Marathon go to preferences then player then uncheck guest and type your Mariusnet.com login and password into the spaces provided right below that.

Note: You will have to make your screen big, change your controls, and sign in to all three Marathon games.

While our main focus is on Bungie's older titles, FCAW also strives to bridge the gap between generations of Bungie fans. Every Wednesday we play a random game chosen from Bungie's entire library of games. Random games can include Marathon, Myth, Halo PC Custom Edition, Halo 2 via Xbox Connect, Halo 3, ODST, and Reach.

Life is like a clogged toilet. It's full of crap until you do something about it.

I don't speak Karate!

I have Marathon too, but I believe games even older (Pathways into Darkness, Gnop!, Desert Storm, and Minotaur) will require either an old Macintosh from the '90s or an emulator with their software.

Myth I and II, plus ONI are not open source, and will still need a purchase.

Gnop! - need old mac or emulator

Operation Desert Storm - same

Minotaur - same. comes in Bungie mac action sac

Pathways into Darkness - same. comes in Bungie mac action sac

Marathon 1, 2, and 3 : Aleph One, free and easy, instructions are up there

Myth 1 and 2 - can get them off Ebay for like 10 bucks. You will have to download a patch to run Myth 1 on a modern day computer, Myth 2 will run just fine on a modern day computer and you can download all of Myth 1 into Myth 2 for free via map packs so get Myth 2 if you can.

Oni - can get off Ebay for like 10 bucks, need a patch to run it on a modern day computer
