People like to defend Noble Team's actions during the missions by saying that the AI must be balanced with the player, otherwise "the game would be too easy because they are Spartan-III". This, in a way, could be true (I doubt it, but I'll play with those who think that Noble Team is actually a decent group of Spartans), but still, why is the player forced to suffer thanks to the actions of mediocre AI?
The worst part is how easily this can be fixed, but I'm not telling because it's just too awesome for you guys to know :P
Nahhh, just kidding, but I must stress, what's the purpose of adding more Spartans to the squad if they have little to no purpose during the missions? You are the only one who actually gets the job done, most of the time they are either trying to get you killed or hiding, which is annoying. I think the best example of how terrible they are is in the mission where you must protect Halsey, when Carter orders you to activate those four turrets. You see, there are four spartans, and four turrets, and yet, you are forced to activate them all. Noble Six should be the only Spartan, while Noble Team should be like scientists or important people that you must protect, at least that would explain why they can't do anything right. Or even better, Noble Team is a great group of Spartans, but they aren't invincible, they can die during the missions. If a member dies, you are sent to a different mission, or the cutscene changes a little, that way I could actually feel some attachment to the group. The only thing that makes them different to a Marine AI during any mission is the fact that Noble Team can't die (sadly).
Anyways, if they wanted to make the Spartans-III awesome, and make the game challenging, how about some scripted events during the game? For example, in the level "Assault on the Control Room" there is a part in the map where there are two bridges. I can visualize this by having your character in one of the bridges, and other members of Noble Team in the other bridge, which you can't access. Then, if you have the time, you can actually see Noble Team members kicking some ass without interfering in your mission. You know... makes sense.
PS: Yes, I know that "Assault on the Control Room" is a Halo:CE level and not Halo: Reach, it's just an example of how this could work.
